Introduction: As a young, educated person, I feel that I have the ability to adapt my style of teaching to the student, and to allow them to sort of plot their own curriculum and learn what they desire to, while simultaneously imparting necessary skills and rudiments into their practice routines to allow them to progress in a creative way as well as an academic way. Additionally, I take a very hands on approach that's very grounded in creative development and musical interaction, as opposed to lecture style teaching. I think composing and jamming are two of the most important skills to develop as a modern musician and can truly shape how a student develops their voice as an artist, so I tend to emphasize these factors in my lessons. I truly just love teaching. I've been teaching lessons for about 8 years now on and off, and I find it to be one of the most joyful and rewarding experiences. It allows me to very methodically distill what was once for me, foreign information into a way that allows others to understand it and integrate it into their own mind.

Peter is the most inspiring music teacher I've ever had in my life! I'm 30 years old and have always wanted to play guitar and he was able to teach me exactly what I wanted to learn without bogging me down with the music theory that i wasn't interested in. he's an amazing player and has been generous in getting me tickets to his shows in the past. He's also a great recording engineer and I can't wait to work with him more!

Peter has been an absolute joy to my children. I have two young children with learning disabilities (one with dyslexia and one with ADHD) and learning music with Peter is always the highlight of their week. He teaches my son piano and my daughter guitar and they are so fortunate to have a teacher as talented and passionate as he is for teaching music. Make sure you study with him!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I recently got my Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory/Composition from Brown University, and I'm currently studying to get my MM in Jazz Performance at New York University. Additionally, I'm always taking classes both in and out of school on music theory, as well as attending masterclasses on new concepts in improvisation. Additionally, I informally privately study with numerous instructors throughout all of the Northeast.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

As a student and a working musician, I found that one of the most rewarding things in life is to learn and to impart knowledge onto others. I absolutely love music and I love learning more than anything on this Earth, so it only made sense to integrate the two and allow them to come to fruition and for me to impart my knowledge and my passion for the world's most universal language onto others.
