Thunder did an awesome job. Happy to show you my cleaned yards and new plantings. I am a very happy consumer. I got good value for what I paid. Pricing is fair and work professional. They will be working for me in a few weeks to plant grass seed when the weather cools. BJF

PMJ arrived early to my house to give us a quote and then was able to take care of our lawn same day! He did an excellent job and had his work cut out for him since our grass was so over grown. Would definitely use him again.

Since moving into my home last year, Mark has been a very helpful resource in getting my outdoor space tailored to my liking. He provided a quick estimate after visiting the property, guided me through all the steps I'd need to take to prepare for the installation and then did a nice job installing sprinklers on my property. He then took care of turning the sprinklers off and on as the seasons changed. I'd definitely recommend Mark for sprinkler installation jobs.

I was impressed with the work ethics of New Beginning Landscaping. They came out right away for an estimate and started to renew my whole backyard and upgrade my front flower beds the day that we agreed. The crew is hard working and even stayed over hours to finish the new grass project. I am planning to hire them again for my regular yard maintenance. I am glad I found them through Thumbtack.

We are absolutely delighted with the law cuts we are getting from JDP Landscaping Service. Apparently they picked up a new machine this spring. It is one of those where the operator rides above the cutting deck and uses left hand and right hand levers to steer the mower quickly in tight circles, three point turns. The result is a smooth, flat cut of the grass around our curved walks and flower beds. The also do a great job of removing grass trimmings off of our driveway and the flower beds. They always show up when they say they are going to be there and do a great job. We recommend them highly

Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Was weary of working with someone new for the first time but he took care of the job for a reasonable price, fast, neat, and clean. Very happy and would definitely work with him again. Really happy with him!

These gentlemen are excellent. They came to my place to give me the estimate same day I contacted them. They kept me updated up until the day of the service. Replaced my whole front yard and reconfigured the mulch beds. Removed all the old unmanageable and over grown plants and shrubs. Excellent job and far better than I expected for the price. They even helped out my elderly neighbor by patching up the grass in front of his house where the snow plows dug it up. Great guys that I will call again.

Maria did a beautiful job painting my bedroom. Wonderfully straight lines and a job that you can clearly see the terrific attention to detail in and that care that she takes to make it lovely. I would hire her again without hesitation.

I've been working with James @Triple J for about five years. He's done everything from masonry work repairing my foundation and chimney to yard clean-ups. The most recent work he's done for me have been major yard renovations starting with a new front walkway in brick pavers (herringbone pattern which he suggested) which was completed in the fall of 2017. During his work on this project he also removed the weeds and turn at the end of my driveway and replaced it with pea stone. This August, he stripped the crabgrass and top layer of my lawn and replaced it with sod. He cleaned up each garden bed, moved plants around for better flow, used a large stone found in my yard as a focal point in the front, mulched each bed, and finally, put up a new stockade fence we lost during the 2018 Noreaster. James is always on time for quotes and meetings, communicates often, provides ideas and solutions, and he and his crew are great to work with when they're on site. Anytime I need something done, I check with James first.

I basically had dirt in my backyard. After a number of effort to plant plants and having zero success, I decided to hire a gardner (Russell). I gave him a basic idea of what I wanted and he made it happen. My garden is alive and looks amazing compared to what it was. I am very impressed with the expertise and knowledge Russell has when it comes to plants/gardening. His a really nice guy and easy to work with. I am very happy with the work he has done for me that I'm keeping him as my permanet gardener. Thanks Russell.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.
