We met Jolie the day of the wedding and she is truly a professional!!! She is not only a photographer but she sure knows how to keep the bride calm when all seems to be going haywire!!! She is down to earth and very genuine -- she is also very calm when everyone is running everywhere and acting silly when trying to take family portraits!!! She truly knows how to keep things together and moving. The sneak preview of the photographs gives you a glimpse of her work and we can say she truly captures those moments you were hoping to keep. They brought tears to our eyes and we cannot wait to see the rest of them. We will be recommending Jolie to everyone we know for ANY occasion. A TRUE PROFESSIONAL!

Belisia was friendly without being overly so. She gets to know your interests and preferences enough to tailor the photo shoot to you! She’s laid back to the point that her style will put you at ease. She’s not bossy or aggressive like some photographers. Very pleasant and likable. You can’t go wrong booking her for your shoot. Trust me!

I don't have enough words to describe how thankful I am to have had Meghan as my wedding photographer. Not only are her pictures artistic, original and beautiful but she was also such an amazing person to have with me on my wedding day. She kept me calm, kept me having fun and helped keep me from being completely overwhelmed. At the end of the day I had complete faith that she had captured all I wanted and more and I genuinely felt like I had made a good friend. A good friend that made my special day more fun and made me look and feel amazing! What more could a bride ask for?

James did an excellent job photographing our wedding yesterday in Beaufort, SC! Despite the winter storms, he made it! Most of our conversations leading up to yesterday were through emails since I was in another country up until a few weeks ago and he always responded quickly! On the wedding day, he was prompt, relaxed and professional. He fit right into the group and from what he has shown us already, his pictures are beautiful. We can’t wait to see the rest! We would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for a professional and talented photographer to capture their special day! Thanks again, James!

Emma did a wonderful job. My fiancé and I where a little nervous with using a new photographer but she did a wonderful job and had a price tag way less than 600+ for what everyone else quoted.

Wendy was fabulous! We contacted her short notice to photograph a job site that we are working on. I am based out of Minneapolis, MN, and I was worried about finding a good photographer when I am not there to describe our idea. She made it easy. She was very flexible with her schedule even though we contacted her short notice, and she was prompt at answering any questions that I had. Her photos were outstanding. She really captured the job site in an artistic light! I would recommend her for anyone who is looking for a detail-oriented, personable, photographer. And, we would definitely use her skills in the future!

I can’t speak enough as to how awesome it was to work with Laura. It was my first time hiring a professional photographer for a vacation trip to Charleston and with how Laura handled it, truly a blessing. She and her husband kept my boyfriend and I at ease the whole time during the shoot that before we knew it, our time with them was over. Great experience for great company in a great location for the price! Thank you Laura!!

I can't get over the quality for the price, everything you get in the package, and was sold most of all on the INCLUDED streaming videos and downloads accessible to everyone. This is beyond the perfect match for my fiance and me, particularly as we are on a very tight budget and we get phenomal value, plus don't have to pay for much in the way of favors since we can give everyone a video as a gift! That totally sold us immediately. I am also impressed by the speed at which we were replied to and how wonderfully the whole process was handled by the videographer.

Mr. And Mrs. Martin were perfect! They really made us feel comfortable and relieved the anxiety on our wedding day! Having a videographer was the best decision I made! He worked wonderfully with our photographer and I felt like we were all great friends just hanging out the entire time. Richard put together an amazing ceremony and highlight video that made us all cry and laugh. I am very thankful that we will have his videos to relive the day that feels like a blur while you are in the moment.

I am an event coordinator with a financial service company in Charlotte, NC called Independent Advisor Alliance. We chose Rand at Creative Deviant to video our annual conference in Charleston, SC. and he did an excellent job, was on time, professional and his equipment was the most advance and of the highest quality. He travels between California and SC and I was very fortunate that his schedule allowed him to be in Charleston to work our conference on Sept 26, 2016 at the Francis Marion Hotel. The caliber of work and knowledge he has for his industry is superior, so much so that he even impressed the other vendors (photographers) that I hired. Each of them commented on how impressed they were with Rand, his equipment and his knowledge. I feel honored to have him there to video our conference. As an event coordinator the vendor can make or break you and Rand made me look like a superstar for choosing the him, the right person to do this job. Thank you Rand. I look forward to working with you again at the 2017 IAA Annual Conference! Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.
