Introduction: Rachel is an artist and illustrator in York, SC. She creates high-quality work in a variety of media, including acrylic, pastel, watercolor, pencil, and more! She is available for commissions, consultations, murals, and art and crafting lessons. Rachel currently owns and operates Betwixt Studios, an art studio and supply shop in York, SC and was the co-founder of Chelsea & Savannah, an educational art studio in Fort Mill, SC. As an artist, I am constantly creating. One of my greatest joys is making something beautiful where once there was nothing. I love the little details that make a whole piece come together! I get great satisfaction in knowing that my commission clients love the work they receive and my students learn something valuable in each lesson. Your happiness is my goal!

Rachel was amazing to work with. She went above and beyond for my project. I asked her to paint a portrait from a photo as a memorial gift for my dear friend. Rachel did an amazing job, and truly captured the essence of my friend and her mother in the portrait. Thank you so much Rachel!

Rachel took a poor quality reference photo and worked with me to recreate it in a painting. It was a picture of my wife and her now deceased father when she was little. I looked for 2-3 years and tried to find an artist who was willing to take this on and who could capture their faces well. She worked with me through several drafts to get the composition and faces right. My wife loved it and cried when I gave it to her. Rachel has created a painting my family will cherish for many many years. I highly recommend her.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a BFA in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design, in addition to many years of experience creating custom artwork for clients.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

For custom artwork, I have worked with private individuals on pets, portraits, meditative landscapes, and house portraits--both as gifts and personal passion projects. I have enjoyed working with my corporate clients on company murals, business promotional materials, image licensing, and corporate gifts. My private lessons have been with students of all skill levels. I recommend that younger children start with group classes, but my current lessons range from tweens to adults in their 70s! There is always something new to learn!

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

One of my favorite commissions was an 11x14 painting of a rooster on canvas. I had so much fun creating it and I love that it will be in my client's kitchen for her to see every day! It took about 3 weeks from our initial discussions to completion of the work. Some pieces may take longer and some may go much more quickly--a lot of it depends on the time of year and how busy the season is!
