About Haydini: Rare Magic, Well Done!

hired 2 times on Thumbtack

Hayden Childress is considered one of the top magicians in the United Federal blah blip yadayada. As you can guess, I am the person who writes, designs, and manages my website and all of my marketing materials, so I could pretty much write anything I wanted about myself. Let's just cut to the chase.

My name is Hayden Childress, but I have been performing under the stage name Haydini ever since I started performing professionally. I began working in restaurants at age 15 (I'd already been doing magic for 5 years), and have had the honor of performing for a number of corporate audiences, schools, universities, and have even developed a large enough fan base to host my own shows in the Charlotte area.

I perform magic because I love to make the impossible become possible. I find it incredible how the human brain works, and how easily deceived it is through simple psychological principles (and a trap door on the stage). Above all else, I love to entertain. Not only do I perform magic, but I also act and perform stand-up comedy. With this in mind, I have made a show that is not only going to fool your pants off (hopefully not literally), but will make you laugh, cry, and make you want to watch more! If there is anything I hate, it is a boring show - I am anything but boring.

Today I am studying business at the University of South Carolina, and I am minoring in Media Arts. I plan to use my skills in business in coordination with my Chinese speaking to perform magic in China in the future. When I was 17 I asked David Copperfield if he thought it would be wise to go to college, rather than keep pursuing my career in magic. His response? "If you are good enough, then why can't you do both?" Today I am a full time, self-employed entertainer, and a full-time college student. I have not regretted a single day.

I hope you've enjoyed hearing about me and my magic! I am a rebel - just check out my bio photo up there! I also just wrote all of this in 1st person - take THAT 7th grade English class!

We had Hayden come to our daughters graduation party. I, personally, did not get to see any of his magic (the unfortunate being of hostess) but EVERYONE that did had rave reviews!!! Hayden was very professional and entertaining and affordable! You won't be disappointed!!

Hayden was none less than SPECTACULAR !
The illusions he performed were amazing, but his interaction with the crowd really made the show. Our audience were teenagers and he was never frazzled by them. Also, it started raining halfway through the show and he moved his act indoors and never missed a beat. He is a true professional. Every one at the party was amazed!
Highly recommended to enhance any occasion!!

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Most of the audiences I perform for are aged 10-50 with crowds of 50-500. My show is great for all age groups, but is a guaranteed hit for the high school and college audiences.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. There is a strong correlation between a sucky act and unprofessionalism. You don't have to hire me, but please don't book a creep just because he was $50.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. How in the world do you make the person's cell phone appear inside of a waffle???

And no I will never tell! >:)

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Read about me, watch what I do, and hear what people say.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. People probably think it's the feeling of fooling people, but it's not that at all. It's the people I get to meet, perform for, and connect with. That's what I love most.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I have multiple crazy stories that are too wild for the common internet dweller to read. If you meet me in person, though, I will tell you tons!

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. It is a very challenging job. It requires more than just learning how to do "tricks". A magician has to be able to connect with the audience and keep them entertained.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. Studied a lot of magic, realized I was good, and I needed some money in high school. Eventually I got even better, and here I am today!

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. Nearly sold out a theater in uptown Charlotte! #yeahhh!

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I study in the Darla Moore School of Business and I also study media arts. This allows me to run operations of my magic more efficiently, and it teaches me how to use media and art to my advantage as a self employed entertainer.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. More and more close-up magic seems to be the trend on television and in large theaters. I have invested in equipment that allows me to perform a close-up show in a large theater, which is a real game changer in my opinion.

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. Magic project? I have been developing acts that involve the combination of technology, sleight of hand, music and art. Think magic tricks with an iPhone - it is a whole new dimension of things waiting to happen!

Performance project? The theaters I've performed in required significant investments, but I had a pretty decent ROI (return on investment) so that has been nice. My main concern is doing magic that is good.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. Nowadays its pretty simple!

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Please read. Please practice. Please love it. Please perform for real audiences.

That is all.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. What are you doing for lunch later?

I have some leftovers in the fridge that I will probably heat up.
