Josh inspected our roof and found hail damage that occurred years earlier. We were able to file a claim and get a brand new roof thanks to his eye for detail. Even though Josh did not install the new roof, he conducted a follow-up inspection for us after the work was done. I live in another state and could not inspect myself.. He responded quickly, went out the very next day and called me from the site and explained everything thoroughly. He even took pictures so that I could see for myself. I have peace of mind now, and will look to Full Spec Home Repair for any future needs. Thanks Josh!

Jon and his team did an excellent job cleaning out the gutters on our house. They worked quickly, cleaned up the debris from the gutters, and pointed out several issues they saw with the roof and gutters. If we need to have our gutters cleaned again I will be calling Jon.

Grayco went beyond our expectations! Tom was quick to give us a quote and work within the insurance allowance. All of our questions were answered, and we felt like his product was superior to others offered by competitors. The day the roof was actually being installed we weren't at the house, so Tom sent us several emails and photos throughout the day of he and the crews working to show us the progress. The work was excellent, and even more to be noted was the cleanliness and neatness of the area after the job. Not a tack, shingle, or piece of paper was to be found as evidence that a roofing job had been done the previous day. Great work! Would highly recommend!

We had BWH do interior painting and trim, repair drywall from roof leaks, replace rotted exterior trim, and paint all of the exterior trim and some stucco areas. Ben's team of Ronald, Luis and Fabio were easy to work with. They arrived on time and cleaned-up after themselves each day. They were professional, kind and good at what they do. They are skilled at cutting in with the brush and painting nice clean lines around trim. They covered floors and furniture while they painted. There were no accidents. I would recommend BWH for you next interior/exterior painting project. Here's is a smart tip... Be certain of your paint colors before the painting begins. Do not assume a paint color you saw in a friend's home or on a paint card will look the same in your space. The amount of natural light coming into a room can completely change the color. Spend time to buy and apply various samples directly on your walls. Once you are certain of the paint color and sheen you want, then schedule BWH to come paint your walls. It will be done quick and look great! Thank you!! :)

Joey was great - he came to give us a consultation and then was ready to do the work the next day. He was prompt, experienced, did a great job and left our kitchen clean when he was finished. His workmanship when venting our microwave exhaust through the roof was great. Very happy with the work and would use him again.

Earl Bowman, owner of Total Roofing, is a good guy and is easy to work with and provided excellent follow-up and communications throughout my roofing project. I bought and distressed classic mid-century modern home with extensive roof damage which was a very large project involving replacement of an old tar and gravel residential flat roof. The roof had long term neglect and required extensive reconstruction of decking and overhanging cantilever eaves. I was not impressed with the carpender, to be honest, he chose to work on my project. He was deliberately slow, unorganized and not particularly skillful. However, Earl stuck with him and hired additional people to get him through the project to his credit without sacking him, which would have benefited the whole project and cost of the project. The other folks, the roofers were excellent, hardworking, conscientious, and skillful. The project ran over budget and required more than a few weeks to complete...again, largely due in part to the carpender and the hidden elements of this poorly maintained roof. In summary, Earl and his company were true to their word. He completed a very difficult project professionally and with class. My prior experiences with roofers were not good but he is a good guy and very different than the lot of his trade. I would highly recommend him.

Roger and Donnie did a fantastic job. I posted my request and the first contact was made quickly. They came out the same day to give me and estimate and completed the work! I am impressed by their professionalism and knowledge in many areas. They fixed the problems that another roofing company had made and educated me on many items concerning the roof, sky lights, insulation, roof venting and even gave some advice on another issue I am having at my home. Will use them again for any of my roofing and guttering needs!

Mike installed a skylight for us. We are extremely happy with the results, and can voice absolutely no complaints. Mike worked non-stop till the project was completed. He had an excellent idea of how the skylight should be trimmed out in the interior ceiling and it turned out as close to perfect as possible. I would recommend MikeCashConstruction to anyone needing to get a job done right.

Darryl, called me around 9:50 AM and stated he was on the way to my house and would arrive around 10:30 AM. Upon arrival, Darryl and I discussed my roofing problem, and I showed the stained ceiling from the previous days rain. After inspecting the problem, Darryl gave me two estimates, one to fix the current leakage problem and another to remove the solar panel bases from the roof. I accepted Darryl's estimates and Darryl located the leakage problem and fixed it immediately. Darryl stated that if I had any problems with his work to call him and he would immediately fix the problem (for the next five years !!). I found Darryl to be extremely professional and very friendly. It rained very hard tonight and I went up to my attic to inspect where the water had been coming through the roof and I did not see any water leakage. I'll inspect the roof (from inside my attic)tomorrow, as we are to get several more inches of rain, but so far the problem seems to be fixed.

I contacted Sandusky Construction on Monday in regards to a new roof for a home I use to live in, and was planning to put on the market for sale. I received a quote within a couple of days. I was able to pick out my style/color online (They offered to bring actual samples, but I did not need that). The crew was at the house the following Monday, and the job was complete by Wednesday. I could not asked for a more reasonable price, more efficient process, or professional job. I have a tenant currently renting the house, and Sandusky Construction was very conscientious of the tenant, and made extra efforts to accommodate a "picky" tenant. It's hard to find dependable work for a fair price, with a seamless transaction. I would highly recommend Sandusky Construction needing a roof, as I cannot think of how my job could have gone better.

I hired HolzBau to design and install a small box and roof protection for my outdoor AC unit. My experience was very positive. Mr. Blair is a very personable individual. He returned my messages promptly and showed on time for the work. In addition, the design and look of the box and roof for my AC unit was above my expectations. I will definitively hire him again.

I was looking for a quality roofer that could bring back to life a building on the property that was once used as an office and storage building for my fathers business before he died. The building had gone thru a period of some neglect and when a storm came thru and damaged the roof it got even worse. Expedited Roofing (Greg Hafford) won a competitive bid against several contractors. He was not the low bidder nor the highest bidder. However, I was impressed with his understanding of the problems with the building and his recommendations for repair to bring this building back to life. Greg installed a quality dimensional residential roofing shingle seem with warranty and a cold applied single ply system on the flat portion of the roof. Both were high quality installations from start to finish, taking only a few days for complete tear-off, rafter repair, new decking installation, debris removal & roofing installation. I highly recommend Greg Hafford for his professional installation and his quick reliable services.

The project was fixing a hole in the ceiling of the bathtub. Chad showed up on time and was very polite the whole time. The price was reasonable and the work was really detailed, he carefully sanded even the whole surface. All expenses were reported with a receipt. He cleaned after the project and it looked really nice. He also fixed a air vent that was not part of the contract. one tiny tiny thing: a bath towel was stained with paint...but it is an unintentional mistake and does nothing to degrade the service quality

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
