Introduction: Sue Conklin - The Puppy Nanny, has trained animals and their people for over 30 years. She has specialized in Dog Behavior and professionally training for over 15 years. Anna Abney has worked with dogs for over 15 years and has been professionally training for more than 7 years. Together, Sue and Anna bring a wealth of experience to their training services. Both Sue and Anna are also dedicated to continuing education. They attend seminars and lectures on dog behavior and training annually. Sue and Anna are committed to using only scientifically proven, positive training and behavior modification methods. They can not only explain WHAT to do, but they can explain WHY. I love working with the dogs, and I really love it when the owners "get it." I train using positive reinforcement, treats, praise, toys and games, teaching owners how to get the best behavior from their dogs. I try to use that same positive reinforcement with the people too.

I have been training my whippet, Ash for the last year and a half at the Puppy Nanny's Place. We have trained in basic obedience, and rally, and we have been competing for about a year. He has his Rally Novice title and 2 legs on his Advanced which we hope to finish in June. Now, I know many would think that is a long time but Whippets aren't known for doing a lot of obedience, they are sight hounds who run, not sit stay! So, what this means is that Sue has tought me the skills, and trained me to understand how he works, and make us both successful using positive training and many unique tools such a platform work to teach hind end awareness, games to play that make your dog think things through for himself, and commands that help him to understand what you want from him. She has a wonderful attitude, always a positive, never a negative, to training. She is reasonable fee wise, and the facility is always immaculate. I couldn't recommend a better trainer in the Greenville SC area,

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

We are often called to help clients with housetraining a new puppy, or for common "adolescent dog" problems. We can help fix: Jumping Door Bolting Not coming when called Pulling on leash Puppy biting Inappropriate chewing Stealing food or other items Aggression issues including; Dog - dog Dog - human Food guarding Fear aggression

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Go watch a class before you sign up for one. Make sure that the trainer uses positive, gentle methods, especially for puppies. Ask questions about methods and make sure that you are comfortable with the training methods used. If you aren't, you probably won't continue to train your dog and your time and money will be wasted. If at any time you are asked to do something or if the trainer does something to your dog that you feel, in your gut, is not right, walk away immediately!
