Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Laughter, enthusiasm, relaxed enjoyment, goals, progress, and striving for personal excellence. This is how I approach my own work as a musician and how I teach. I hope and believe these attributes are infectious and influence my students in positive ways to embrace and enhance their own skills and enjoyment of music! Playing an instrument is as much about understanding the strange-looking symbols on a page (aka sheet music) as it is about feeling and communicating music experientially. Some day, ask me about the time I wanted to learn to play the drum kit like Neal Peart and took a percussion class at UT (Austin), when all my classmates were members of the mighty Longhorn Band. Epic (and embarrassing) Fail. Now, I teach ALL of my students the fundamentals of reading and understanding music (called music theory). Don’t panic: it is totally not rocket science, is quite logical, explains “so many things,” and can truly be fun! My students are my great joy, and it’s an honor to work with each one. This is true whether they are pursuing professional excellence or picking up a new hobby. At my current stage in life, I’m offering lessons during WEEKDAY DAYTIMES (9 AM - 3 PM Eastern Time, M-F) to students both locally and globally, via the magic of the internet. If that timeframe works for you, connect with me and let’s discuss getting started. Don't hesitate. You'll be so glad you took the step to music lessons! My Love for and Story with Guitar, Piano, and Bass: Acoustic Guitar I’ve played acoustic guitar for about 25 years or so and love to help beginners get started, so I pretty much stick with beginning guitar lessons. My guitar story is that I began playing as a freshman in college, when I wanted to play the worship songs on the worship team in my church’s college class. Since then, I’ve probably taught a few hundred people of all ages to play the basics and all of them (so far as I know, anyways, from what they say…) came to love playing, too. Piano Like many people, I took piano lessons for several years as a kid and practiced perfunctorily, but never truly enjoyed it and really didn’t excel at it. It wasn’t until my mid-twenties that I discovered I really enjoyed playing by ear. After that, I took a theory course and began to learn to read music – believe it or not, it was actually my first time to (really) read music! As a result of my own experiences, I strive to combine piano and theory knowledge with playing enjoyment and passion. Bass Guitar While I was in youth ministry, I bought an electric bass guitar, because I thought they were cool. OK, I still do. I mean, Geddy Lee, right? But the truth is that the bass I bought sat in its gig bag in many closets in all of the apartments and houses I've lived in since that time. Honestly, despite my love affair with the rhythm of the bass, I only finally decided to learn how to play when someone asked me to teach them how to play one. And, yes: it is as awesome as I thought it would be and as you will find it to be! And *basic* bass is fairly simple, once you learn a few things. If you've got one sitting in your closet, too, call me for some lessons and give it a try!
