- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Make sure you choose someone with a wide-body of work. Listen carefully and critically to their recordings. Make sure they have work on iTunes and that they have an up-to-date website. Make sure the person you're working with has multiple skills--not just an engineer, not just a musician, not just an arranger. The most important part of working in the studio, is working with someone who is easy to work with. If you don't get along and if you're not having fun, your recordings will not be the best they can be. Personality is important in a creative environment. The greatest compliment I receive from my clients is that I don't "push" my ideas. I myself am a songwriter and I understand how much goes into writing a song. I am very respectful of other's creations and while I don't mind offering my opinion, I work under the philosophy that your music is YOURS. The worst thing that can happen to a songwriter is to get stuck working with someone who wants to re-write your music and is pushy in doing so. This is not an environment conducive to making good music.
