Jeff was very honest and professional and fixed my air conditioner for a reasonable value. I had used Total Hvac for maintenance and they quoted a large amount for fixing it and suggested I replace the air conditioner instead.

I took this long to do a review because I had Payton repair my HVAC air ducts which were never installed properly and leaks/moisture etc was unbelievable. I had several quotes that said I had to replace entire system of ducts, Payton said he could repair for very much less cost. Mostly I needed only the connections redone right, and new insulation wrapping around trunk, not trunk line replacement. The savings was approx. 75% less than other quote. I waited on the review until I got my next electric bill so I could see what difference I was experiencing before I wrote the review. I AM VERY HAPPY, VERY HAPPY INDEED. My bill is 50% less than it has ever been. I will pay for the repair in savings within 6 months! He actually even came early for the repair as he completed the prior job early so that was a bonus as well. He was in and out, got it done, and reasonable on pricing. Did what he said he was going to do. I will hope to hire him again as needed with other projects I have coming soon now that I am saving $ on my power bill : )

Mo was super nice, quick to make an appointment, and did a great job! He did some maintenance work on my hvac and walked me through the whole process. I didn’t feel like I was being overcharged like previous companies have done. I will definitely continue to use Oasis Air and highly recommend!

Nathan came to help us install a smart thermostat & while he was here we had him also tune up our 14 year old HVAC. He definitely knows his stuff and took a lot of care to check everything. Even though we've had the unit serviced in the last year by another company, he found some glaring safety issues. Without him catching the issues we could have had a serious carbon monoxide problem. We're thankful for Nathan's expertise!

At first I thought the price was a little high. Then I searched around a bit and found that HVAC equipment is just high, and that True Temp was actually on the lower-priced side of the professional world because they don't have the overhead the big companies do. Then he came to do the work in an attic that was scary hot. Since the house was uncomfortable, he wouldn't leave until the work was done, even though it got a little late. He was really kind, and he was easy to work with. I like to think in those few hours he and I became friends. I'm glad to give him a great review. It's the least I could do. And oh ... the unit he sold me is still running well.

There are two points I would like to make on my experience with Blocker Heating and Cooling. 1) the service and expertise of Richard and his team at Blocker Heating and Cooling. Rating - I leave him 5 stars. 2) The second piece of information is this. Eventhough the company is young company, the experience of Richard and his team is not. Therefore, these guys are hustling to make everything perfect and build a name for Blocker Heating and Cooling. I saw this firsthand. The quote was 1500 dollars cheaper than some of the better known HVAC companies and I doubt these bigger companies would have provided the expertise or the effort I received in my heatpump install. They installed a 2-ton heatpump for my 1100 square foot home. It works as expected. They also configured my smart thermostat without any issues. I can't recommend this new company highly enough. Richard is not a salesman. He is a new business owner who is trying to build a name for Blocker through hard work and customer service. I also received a lifetime warranty on my condenser.

Kyle was wonderful. He was knowledgable, professional and at a great price. He did tune up maintenance and cleaning of our unit, as well as replace a few worn electrical parts. He also went above and beyond in helping us repair some duct work in our very tight crawl space. He did an excellent job. We will definitely use him again and would highly recommend him to anyone with HVAC needs.

Pollard air and heating service was very professional and economic. They found the problem in my ac unit and fixed it promptly when another hvac company told me i needed a whole new unit. The honesty and great work they provide is impeccable. I will use them for any of my hvac issues and i would definitely refer my friends and family to do the same!

My husband and I hired Marcus for a heating problem. We had not had heat for weeks and had other companies take a look and they were so espensive. We heard about thumbtack through a friend, that's when we came across Marcus Davis. He found the problem and replaced a sensor. He did I a great job and he was very reasonable with the price. If you need HVAC work done. I recommend Marcus Davis.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

  • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
  • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
  • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
  • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
    • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
  • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
    • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
  • Your home has humidity problems.
  • Your home has excessive dust.
    • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
  • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
    • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
  • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
    • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.
