Antonio's Lawncare services did a great job when removing the tree limbs, sticks, and brush in the back and side yard. They got back to me quickly and were very accommodating.

Mr. Marshall was professional, responsive, reliable, and efficient, cutting my grass quickly, and without damage to trees or shrubbery, which sometimes happens when weed eating. He maintained a positive attitude, and seemed trustworthy.

Wil Kanagy of Kanagy's Kustom Kutting and his crew showed up on time and immediately and effectively proceeded with the task at hand: the gathering and removal of leaves from our 1/2 acre lot. Their work included total and complete removal of the heavy leaf drop on our property - including from multiple flower beds and in and around an abundance of bushes and all property lines. The entire team was polite, professional and efficient in their approach to the work at hand. I would definitely consider them for any task they claim as part of their capabilities, which include a broad spectrum of lawn services. I very highly recommend them to all parties seeking quality, reasonably priced services.

Wade and his crew were great!! They cut down a dead pine tree, and then scattered the mulch over the area near the stump to make ground look better than it was when they started! And while on our property they noticed a few other trees that needed some attention and offered to cut those down and dispose of them all for a very fair price, and so they did those too. They worked efficiently and carefully, it had rained the day before and air was still misty, and so ground was soggy a bit, they didn't really leave a trace that they had been on our property except for the nice, clear view of no more dead pine tree! We have lots of trees on our property that need some attention, so we will hire them again, for sure! Great company to work with! Wade is a great communicator! We are very pleased!

We had a few trees trimmed and two trees removed. Jeff was great to work with and in the end made it right. His guys did an okay job but didn’t do it right initially but Jeff promised me he’d get it fixed and he delivered. I would hire Jeff again as he is a man of his word and that’s a hard thing to find.I gave 4 stars as one of the trees they trimmed was butchered and tore up my yard a little.

We just moved into a house that had overgrown bushes. Adam did a complete transformation on a short notice. He is very professional, answered all of my questions and his work with landscaping is phenomenal. He trimmed bushes, trimmed a tree and also explained in detail about certain shrubs. A++. I will definitely hire him again! It looks like a different house out front!

Quick response for estimate. Michael was very professional and gave me a fair estimate for bush trimming and tree trimming. The price of the estimate and invoice was the same. I was very satisfied with the results! Excellent work! I will definitely hire them again! I only wish I had taken a before and after photo!

I had hired a terrible landscaper by mistake. They came in and fixed everything for me. Fertilizer, edging ,aerating, mowing, and weed eating. He also does excellent handyman work. They put brickwork all around trees they planted and all around m home. He also put mulch. He is now fencing in my pooland building a retaining wall. He is professional and polite and his prices are fair.

For 16 years I had a problem of trying to get any type of grass to grow under my large oak tree. I had it pruned, but the roots had become so large that I thought perhaps ivy would be a better solution. But I still didn't know how ivy could spread with those roots in the way. Justin King, whom I had researched, solved my problem by removing what grass there was, then applying a layer of top soil, followed by mulch before planting any ivy. He first drew the outline of where the mulch would be - to ensure definition - before steps two and three. He also extended my flower beds with mulch and planted just the right ground cover to enhance balance on both sides of my walkway and around my mailbox to create interest. Vision, problem solver, attention to detail, good execution, interactive personality, reasonable rates, on-time delivery = high value = high quality. That's why I would recommend Justin King for any landscaping project. Kathryn Huddleston, Ph.D., published author in quality and customer satisfaction genres

Needed a tree and shrub removed as well as some trimming of three trees that we wanted to keep in good health. They were very quick to contact me which based upon other companies i asked for quotes from (not thumbtack recommended companies) was not the case. Came out that day for an estimate and were able to complete the work in a reasonable timeframe (~1 week from estimate date). The guys were all friendly and professional and did a great job with our trees. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing work done.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
