Introduction: A Korean American pianist, Jennifer Lee Kang began her piano studies at age four under her mother's tutelage. She is praised as a pianist with thoughtful interpretations and beautiful tone, and is most sought after for her intuitive and sensitive work as a collaborative pianist. She has won numerous awards and competitions, including the University of Memphis Concerto Competition, Michigan Music Teacher Association Competition, Livonia Piano Competition, Majorie Conrad Peatee Art Song Competition, Bowling Green State University Concerto Competition, Keyboard Achievement Award, Elizabeth Cobb Piano Scholarship, Bowling Green State University Piano Scholarship, Pro Musica Recipient Award and Music Talent Award. She has spent many summers studying with her long-time teachers, Dr. Logan Skelton and Dr. Robert Roux at international festivals, including the Amalfi Coast Music Festival in Italy, Prague International Piano Masterclasses in Czech Republic, Aria International Summer Festival in Canada, International Institute for Young Musicians at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and Interlochen Summer Arts Camp in Michigan. She received her B.M. and M.M in Piano Performance emphasis in literature, pedagogy and accompanying at Bowling Green State University, Ohio and University of Memphis, Tennessee. She is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Collaborative Piano at the University of Memphis under the guidance of Dr. Victor Asuncion and a minor in orchestral conducting under the guidance of Dr. Pu-qi Jiang. She was a teaching assistant to Dr. Asuncion as well as an undergraduate instructor of piano. She has also taught at the University of Memphis Community School, Bowling Green State University Creative Arts Program in Ohio and Faulkner Chamber Music Festivals in Arkansas. During her doctoral studies, she performed Francis Poulenc's Piano Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra in D Minor, FP. 61 with University of Memphis Chamber Orchestra under Maestro Pu-qi Jiang, Serge Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Major, Opus 26 with Memphis Occasional Orchestra under Dr. Nadya Potemkina, and Mozart's Piano Concerto in A Major, K. 488 with Memphis Repertory Orchestra under Mr. William Langly. In addition, she has worked as an orchestra pianist and performed works by Brahms, Copland and Stravinsky. As a chamber musician, she regularly performs with her husband, the violinist Long Long Kang, as well as with musicians from the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, IRIS Chamber Orchestra and Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. As a teacher, she enjoys teaching students of all ages. She maintains a private teaching studio where she resides in Germantown, Tennessee living with her husband and baby boy.
