Our HVAC unit was not cooling the house properly. My wife and I returned from being gone for the weekend and our house was a balmy 91 degrees. It was blowing air but not any cool air. I posted the issue on a Sunday night and Jeff was kind enough to stop by our house on his way to an install Monday morning. He diagnosed a Freon leak from a pipe just above the compressor, which was visible once he put some in the system as it had completely leaked out. Considering the work he had to do for the repair and that he had to completely refill the system with refrigerant his prices were very competitive. I thought Jeff was very up front, helpful and knowledgeable about his trade. At no point did I feel like he was trying to gouge me with extra work or jacked up pricing, not to mention he resolved our issue in a more than timely manner. I'd highly recommend this company for your HVAC needs!!

I took this long to do a review because I had Payton repair my HVAC air ducts which were never installed properly and leaks/moisture etc was unbelievable. I had several quotes that said I had to replace entire system of ducts, Payton said he could repair for very much less cost. Mostly I needed only the connections redone right, and new insulation wrapping around trunk, not trunk line replacement. The savings was approx. 75% less than other quote. I waited on the review until I got my next electric bill so I could see what difference I was experiencing before I wrote the review. I AM VERY HAPPY, VERY HAPPY INDEED. My bill is 50% less than it has ever been. I will pay for the repair in savings within 6 months! He actually even came early for the repair as he completed the prior job early so that was a bonus as well. He was in and out, got it done, and reasonable on pricing. Did what he said he was going to do. I will hope to hire him again as needed with other projects I have coming soon now that I am saving $ on my power bill : )

We hired David to either replace or repair the tile floor in our kitchen. He came in, diagnosed the problem, and gave us the information we needed to make an informed decision about what we wanted to do. We ended up replacing the entire floor, as the previous job was very poorly done. After removing all traces of the previous floor, he worked with us to design a pattern that is absolutely beautiful! We were so happy with the work he was doing that we extended the project to include a tile backsplash and under cabinet lighting. The end result is a kitchen renovation that is beautiful, down to the last detail! Throughout the project David was always very fair and honest with his billing. The job he did was worth every penny and then some! We will always call David first for any future home needs, and recommend him without reservation.

Matt did great work on our house. He repaired a few items and painted a difficult section of the exterior-much higher off the ground than I would've gone. He was thorough and did a great job.

Jerad was great when we had him fix an issue with our kitchen sink. He was quick to respond to my initial inquiry and all additional messages as we discussed the problem. He arrived on time the next day and quickly quoted me a very reasonable repair price, then fixed the issue within 45 minutes. I'll definitely reach out to him for our next plumbing issue.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who fixes refrigerators?

Typically, appliance repair technicians who offer refrigeration repair also work with washers, dryers, dishwashers and other household appliances. While there is no formal training required to be an appliance repair technician, consider certification requirements, as the technician should know how to safely work with refrigerants (the chemical that keeps your fridge cold) and substitute refrigerants such as HFCs. You should also read reviews to get a sense of the pro’s experience and reputation. The appliance repair pro will come to your home, bringing all the necessary tools for diagnosis. They may need to order parts to complete the job, but all the work will take place in your home. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
