Mark did an absolutely fantastic job getting an interior wall framed, drywalled, a 6' x 6' glass sliding door installed in my living room to convert half of it into a third bedroom. He brought in a great crew that did a top notch job. His personal touch on the finishing, trimming, and painting is second to none. This is the man to call if you need any work done on your house, even if it's an unusual job like a patio door in your living room.

Last year Richard had painted inside of our home here in Sarasota and did such a wonderful job that I had to ask him to also pain the interior of our apartment in Miami. After seeing the quality of his work and his dedication to all the details we had decided to use his services for exterior painting of our home. He recently finished painting our home from outside. When Richard comes for walkthrough to give an estimate, he notes everything that will needed to be done to complete the job thoroughly. He gives 100% when painting. His work is not done till he is completely satisfied with his own work. He has an eye for all the details that painting job requires. It is not surprising that he was recognized as "Best Painter" last year. Richard is one of the lucky ones who loves and enjoys what he does for living. I will recommend him without any hesitation. He gets five star from us. *****

Mason/Blackwell Custom Painting and Remodeling was initially hired to perform painting and some minor remodeling projects, so that my home would be ready to place on the market in Spring 2017. By the time the project actually began, the scope of the first phase had expanded into a complete bath, laundry room, den and kitchen remodeling project. The project was completed a little behind the original projected date, because of scheduling issues, as well as unforeseen repair issues due to the age of my home. Pricing was reasonable and the owner was easy to work with and fair in dealing with errors/mishaps. The 2nd phase of remodeling is set to begin in a couple more weeks.

Best painting company was great to work with. My house looks fantastic. Craig and Jacob were very easy to work with and I love that they make sure you’re completely satisfied by coming by a week later to look over the job again. If you’re not happy, they’re not happy.

Brandon did an excellent job with the windows in our home. He was on time, courteous, and friendly. He worked consistently in cleaning our windows and because of problems with this being a new home there was paint residue on the windows. He did an excellent job in removing all the paint that should have been taped when the painting was done. I give him an excellent recommendation.

This company has completed numerous jobs for us. They painted the entire interior of our home, walls, doors and all the woodwork. The house looks great! They were clean, and organized just like I like it! They have done the landscaping on our yard for two years now and I'm just bragging here, but I think it rivals any in the whole neighborhood. This company really can't be beat. They are really good! Give them a try!

They were on time, did a beautiful job painting and the clean up was way more than I expected. The workers were very pleasant and the kind of people you were happy to have in your home. Excellent service and performance. The ceilings in the house I just purchased hadn't been painted in years. Previous owners were heavy smokers and the ceilings were yellowed and stained with nicotine. Josh Hickman selected the proper paint and even though it cost more than the previously agreed upon price, used it to give the best results and customer satisfaction. I recommend Hickman Painting highly and plan on calling upon there services again in the spring. Outstanding job, very pleased. Best money I've ever spent. Thanks again Josh!

We hired Jim to do some work on our rental property. We sent him an email and he responded right away! He replaced rotten wood on the exterior deck, replaced Sheetrock in the garage ceiling that had some water damage from an old leak, replaced the wood on the bottom frame of a French door , painted and sealed, and a few other small jobs/routine maintenance the home needed. Jim sent us pictures of all the completed work. He was very fast/efficient and fair/reasonably priced. Very happy we chose to hire Jim!

He pressure washed our deck and painted it. We were very pleased with his work. He did what he said he would do when he said he would do it. We had him do a few extras because of cracks on our siding that needed to caulked. He offers suggestions about what you need and does not pressure you. I do recommed B & F painting.

Prompt, professional, responsive. Completed project on time and at the agreed upon price. The whole team was great and was actually a pleasant experience rather than a nightmare. They fixed things inside and painted the house. Looks great.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
