The movers were very professional, and so helpful moving my daughter and granddaughters from their apt back home. I had no problem confirming when they would arrive and they were right on time. I would highly recommend this company to anyone that was moving. Thanks again. Brenda Gillis

From the time Lance Mitchell of Mitchell Moving responded to my request for quotes, for moving my wife and I's furniture, online through "Thumbtack", I couldn't have asked for a friendlier, more competent mover with whom to work. This was my first experience with seeking workers online and with Thumbtack. As such, and being a non-computer geek, I was initially a little hesitant to trust this important job to a complete stranger met only on an online service. But Lance changed all that. He was very prompt in responding to my requests for a quote to move us, and he gave us a very reasonable price. He always responded promptly to all my emails and contacts, and he was very respectful and responsible. On the day of our scheduled move, Lance and his workers showed up promptly with a nice truck and the proper equipment to accomplish our local move. They were very friendly and took care not to damage any of our furniture, some pieces of which were very large and bulky. There was no complaining or hesitancy by Lance or any of his men--it truly was service with a smile. My wife and I were totally pleased with Lance Mitchell and Mitchell Moving, and if we ever need Movers again, I would definitely use Lance.

You could tell they weren't "professional" movers as they took as long to unload our truck as it did for our movers in Vegas to disassemble items and load the truck where placement was key in order to make everything fit. The guys unloading just had to take it off and put it anywhere in the house with no assembly required. However big pluses were that they were on time, courteous and careful. Would use again and recommend.

Very professional, wrapped furniture to protect it, packed it in the truck so that everything was secure and fit and there was still extra room left in the truck. They worked quickly and were very helpful.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.
