Introduction: Talented piano teacher with extensive experience of over 37 years in teaching different ages and cultures, and skill level from beginners to advanced. Received professional training in performance, pedagogy and accompanying in England, Arizona, Knoxville, and Berlin from well-known professors. Belle has been teaching piano since 1983 in Malaysia, London, China and America. She completed the Associated Board of Royal School of Music exams at a young age of 15. She acquired a Bachelors of Music in Performance with Honors at Northern Arizona University and received a Masters of Music in Collaborative Piano with Honors at the University of Tennessee. Belle has performed extensively with choirs, singers, and instrumentalists around the world since 1987. She also coordinated and managed a wide variety of multicultural music events since 2006. She has collaborated extensively with professional musicians in joint productions of chamber music, song recitals, benefit concerts, musical drama and has appeared as a pianist on Live Voice Competitions. In Knoxville, she currently has her own Piano Trio, Kibeka Trio, that performs 20th & 21st century chamber music. She is able to teach a variety of musical styles including classical, jazz, popular, hymns, and worship music; and coaching students towards taking examinations, and performing live on stage. Uses a unique variety of teaching techniques to make lessons fun and enjoyable. Her comprehensive approach to piano teaching can help students learn to speak this musical language beautifully. Music is a language. Piano technique is an important element in communicating this language. Belle is very passionate about not only teaching her students how to play the notes, but also teaching technique, using the Matthay’s method, a very important part of her piano instruction. Improvisation, a lost art among the classical musicians, is also encouraged. It is a way of expressing music from within our musical spirit, creating music that is uniquely our own. Piano Lessons

I bought a keyboard recently. With more time at home, I decided to take lessons!!! I am so happy that I found Belle on Thumbtack. With her, learning critical piano skills is balanced with her approachable, kind personality. It has been really enjoyable! I have been taking lessons virtually for a month and I have already learned so much!!!

Piano Lessons

My son has been taking piano lessons with Belle for a few months now. He is 5-years-old and I am amazed at how much he has learned and improved already. Belle truly makes class fun and interesting while maintaining his attention. She is very attentive to details and ensures he is learning techniques properly. I am very thankful for how caring she is and how she is able to adapt to my 5-year-old's energy and experience with the piano. We are so thankful for Belle! She is very reliable, professional and punctual.

Piano Lessons

I'm a beginner, and have never played a musical instrument. Belle is doing a great job introducing me to piano, and giving me pointers that I can practice to improve my piano playing. I highly recommend her to anyone interested in learning piano!

Piano Lessons

I am in the (hopefully) unusual position of having suffered a severe reaction to a childhood immunization which damaged the nerves in my right hand. Despite that, I was accepted into the Indiana University School of music; but after a year of study we concluded that the limitations to my right hand technic made this an impractical goal. Now, after retiring from years as a professional artist and remedial reading instructor, I chose to explore piano lessons once again. I researched every teacher in the Oak Ridge/Knoxville area, and decided to interview with Belle, in a large part because she is an active professional performer. Our interview was thorough and encouraging. I was also impressed that during this hard time of coronavirus concerns, she is very careful about sanitization of her keyboard, my hands, and every other sensible precaution. Belle is picking up where my studies left off, teaching me advanced techniques of weight transfer, wrist rotation, and how different techniques are required by various composer. Her patience, humor (yes!) and problem-solving approach are exactly what I had hoped to find in a professional coach and mentor.

Mrs. Belle is an amazing teacher with the right amount of patience and not too strict! Highly recommend!! I am 14 and have been taking lessons for about a year now. I love learning with her. A specific thing that I like about her lessons is that she teaches me technique which is something that is rarely taught to piano students.
