I got quotes from Dutch and from another company to complete some re-caulking in my shower and install a new kitchen faucet. Not only was Dutch's cost estimate MUCH more reasonable, his time estimate was as well. Dutch completed the project quickly and efficiently and I'm very satisfied with the end result! For the re-caulking, he came with 3 color samples for me to choose from, so I was able to get the best match for my shower. I would recommend Dutch and would hire him again.

Chris put down flooring in 4 rooms and a hallway, did a kitchen backsplash and hung a ceiling fan for us. His work is excellent! He cleans up everything and hauls off the trash/material when he's done. He does it right the first time! We will definitely be calling him for our next project.!

We gave Clayton a varying array of projects we needed help with (building kitchen cabinets, fixing water damage on ceiling, window seal repair, grout work, etc.) and he did a great job on all of it. We’ll definitely use him in the future for other home improvement needs.

Jose worked with us on getting the outside of the house revamped with hardy board siding and our kitchen completely remodeled. Jose was fantastic to work with, prices were very reasonable, and he was great with bringing samples, etc. after letting him know what colors we wanted to use. They stripped the outside of the house, wrapped, sided, and trimmed in 3 days. The siding and painting crews did a fantastic job. The kitchen was gutted down to stud and remodeled. Fernando was fantastic, beautiful work in the kitchen and completed in 3 weeks. We love the results both inside and out and will work with Jose and his teams in the future for some other projects. Thank you Jose and Fernando, we love the new kitchen and the view of the outside of the house when pulling in the drive-way now. You guys are awesome to work with, look forward to future projects with you!

David Binder can do it all -- construction, repairs, lighting, electrical, flooring, you name it. We hired David to install a new floor in our den, install new lighting fixtures and "under the counter" lighting in our kitchen, create a closet and install new exterior / interior wall covering where a window unity had been located. David did outstanding work in all areas. He is especially gifted with floor transitions from room to room and excels in his work. We were impressed with his thorough communication, reasonable costs, and attention to details. We will definitely have David come back for more projects in the near future. No doubt, he is the best handyman we have ever hired in our 27 years of home ownership!

Morgan helped design and install a complete kitchen. This included tearing the old kitchen out (down to the studs) and finding innovative ways to use the existing space. The final product required custom work. I also had a fixed budget and timeline for completion. Morgan was consistently on-time with every aspect of the job. He is a great communicator and was able to serve as the perfect liaison between our ideas and the finished product. The kitchen project with Morgan was a fantastic construction experience. He is a man of integrity and we are blessed to have him to help us.

I found the contractor on another site, not here on Thumbtack. I had 5 bids from different contractors. My wife and I reviewed every bid even discussed project scopes with every one of them. We chose Chris based on his professionalism, knowledge of the construction industry as well as checking referrals that he provided to us. They all checked out and we were excited to text him and offered him the job. His responsiveness was very punctual. The project took 6 weeks. It was a kitchen remodel he and the crew completed. What stood him out than the other contractors was that he could measure the kitchen cabinets, made 3D drawings from his office, ordered cabinets as a dealer also installed our beautiful cabinets himself. We got all of these services in 1 package. Something you don't see much anywhere. We met with few kitchen designers (not his) and they had subcontractors that perform the work. That's extra mark-ups we didn't wish to pay for so Chris' price was within few other cabinet quotes we received elsewhere and we knew it was a huge steal of a deal. His professionalism and demeanors were top-notch. He communicated and kept us in the loop of the project daily. We were very pleased with his forthcomings. At the end of the project, he gave us a punch list and asked us to put any blue tape that we see that need to be corrected or touched up. This is exactly how we envisioned when working with a contractor. Our kitchen turned out very beautiful. One thing when we received bids, his estimate was broken down into itemized estimate, outlining every work and cost. We wanted to see exactly where our money was being spent on. If you need a contractor, I would recommend Chris. He's also a very nice gentleman, very understanding of our concerns or requests. We got along very well and ended up becoming friends afterward, something that doesn't happen often anywhere. Happy Customers Bryson & Wendy

My wife and I have hired Williamz Constructors on multiple occasions to do work on our historic home. We have been beyond satisfied and impressed with the quality, value, and speed of the work done. Williamz made our kitchen project, which I thought was going to be a major undertaking, look like an every-day job. And now, the kitchen really ties the whole house together. Not only was the work excellent, the people at Williamz are a true pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Williamz Constructors and will turn to them in the future. Thanks guys!

Rick and his staff did a fantastic job. The first job was the closet organizer in the master bedroom, it turned out so well we asked Rick to look at remodeling the master bathroom and Kitchen cabinets. we could not be more pleased with Rick and his team. Very professional, always on time and extremely easy to work with. We started out just looking at the closet organizer and finished with a whole lot more once we met with Rick and saw the quality, craftsmanship and level of detail they put into all of the projects. Thanks again Rick!!!!

I was on a time crunch. The movers I had originally scheduled stood me up so I called Mountain Movers on a very short notice and they came out to help me within an hour and a half. They did an excellent job on a very short amount of time. And, don't judge the girl until you see what she can do. I've never seen another female with her small stature work and lift furniture like she did. I was very impressed with them both and would hire them again in a second. A+ all the way.

Noel is great! Her customer service, suggestions, and personality are all top notch. Working with her has been pure fun. She really has brought great ideas to the table and really took the time to understand my design likes and dislikes. Ive enjoyed working with her so much that I've hired her for several additional projects in my home. All the Pinterest/HGTV inspirations Ive had in mind are now possible with her. Thanks Noel and I'm looking forward to this journey!

Lance has been amazing to work with - we called him at the end of January and said we had a party in the middle of February that we wanted to remodel our kitchen for. Three weeks later and it is done! Lance installed new cabinets for us, built a window bench and some floating shelves, helped coordinate our new hardwood and granite installs, and even helped us unexpectedly problem solve when our dishwasher wouldn’t fit under our counters with our newly installed floors. He helped us with the vision for our space, has spent hours at our house working, and has just been wonderful to work with. He’s incredibly responsive, flexible, and fun to work with. We would definitely call Lance again for future contracting work.

I was in a time crisis and a decorating dilemma and Barry was able to help me get through both issues. He arrived just when I needed extra hands and a sharp decorating eye and he came through for me with his sewing skills, his painting skills, and his terrific sense of color and room design. Thanks for being there when I needed "that guy"!

I can not say enough about how talented Kalyn is! I hired her to select a backsplash for my kitchen, new lighting fixtures for several rooms, and some accessories for the living room. She did a fantastic job. She is confident in her decisions and works very quickly so we ended up spending less on design time than originally planned, which gave us more money to spend on accessories.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
