First of all, I just want to say that this experience was a sigh of relief compared to the thievery that happened a year ago! Last year, we were scammed by a roofer (Jeff Lorber of Envision LLC) that came to our door telling us we could get our roof redone because of a hail storm. So, we worked with him to file a claim with our home owners insurance and they approved the claim. We handed over the check and planned on scheduling the work for the beginning of the next month.... Needless to say... We never saw that man again. And were left to fend for ourselves. So when we finally got the money to repair our roof... We used thumbtack. It was a great service where we could check out the roofers we wanted. Brent was the first to respond... The first to give me a quote and the first to give me two references. He's very easy to work with and pricing is very reasonable. I would recommend him to anyone... Even those who have been scammed in the past. Do your homework.... But definitely trust this review.

I was very impressed with this company. He came the same day as I contacted him and looked at my roof. I received the estimate the next day. It was almost half of other estimates I got. Plus he did not ask for money upfront. I paid when the job was finished. I had the roof installed the next week. We were delayed a day because of the weather. I had good communication with Don and knew exactly what the plan was. On the assigned day, they were to be here at 8am. The men were all here, unloaded and were working before 8. All the workers were very polite and respectful. Not just to me, but also to my property, my children and my dogs. The owner Don even drove around helping us look for one of my dogs that got out. Because of the help from the guys on the roof, he was found fairly quickly. Roof was finished in one day. The next day, my gutter was installed and everything was cleaned up. There was no mess left behind. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Don and his workers. I would gladly use him again and I strongly recommend them. I am adding a few pictures of the roof. They are not the best, but they will give you an idea of the work. I forgot to take a before picture.

If you're experiencing any kind of water damage, mold issues, or even suspect that you have anything of the sort--call Advanced Home Solutions! I had a great experience with Bryan and would trust him to fix literally anything in my home if he would do it. He came to inspect a potential roof/gutter leak that was causing ceiling water damage. Went above and beyond to advise me on how to actually fix it myself. Gave me pointers on other problematic areas around my house too that I should keep an eye on. I value his expertise and opinion and will be calling him in the future.

Francisco is very professional and was quick to come to our location, give me a quote, and begin work the following business day. He patched shingles where we had some roof work done, applied a pipe boot for an HVAC vent and then his crew installed gutters and downspouts for our garage. Fair pricing and fast work. Highly recommend.

Robert was on time for our appt. He was professional in his work, yet down to earth. I wanted 3 different estimates done to find the roofer that was right for me. The other 2 companies that came out wanted to see my insurance papers. I thought that was a bit shady. Robert never asked for the insurance papers. He checked my house and gave me an estimate. Not only was the price right but 2 upgrades included, the type of roofing and the vent system.

Javier responded to my inquirie to repair my roof almost immediately! He contacted me within the hour. He then came out and when he saw what needed to be done, he gave me a good price and already had the tools and supplies on hand to fix it right away. He was very professional and easy to discuss what needed to be done. He made sure to take a picture of the repair on top of my roof before and after so I would be assured it was fixed right. I highly recommend him for any of your roofing needs! Thanks for a job well done!

I had hired Kyle of Cornerstone General Contractors to repair my roof and gutter that were damaged from a hail storm that happened during the summer months, also I had a leak inside one of the bathrooms from that storm also, he and his crew came early to do roof the next morning and finished in one day. They made sure every thing was picked up and cleaned like it was when they started. The crew that took care of the interior of the bathroom came the next day and started working on the ceiling and wall that was damaged. it took them two days for replacing wall board and ceiling area. After that they repainted the whole bathroom. He and his crew are a TRULY profressional in the work they do. I WOULD DEFINITELY hire them for any project that i would have in the future.

Sky was so great to work with when we had our 23 year old roof replaced. Even when our insurance company was trying to cheat us out of money due to the age of the roof, he has fought and is still fighting to make sure we get our fair share. His team of roofers had to work with little notice since weather can change so rapidly in early January and it was done in 2 days. I would highly recommend this company for any of your upcoming home projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
