Excellent work -- Brent started what I thought would be a 2-day project and finished the painting and drywall repair, plus mounted two mirrors over my sinks, long before the first day was done! He left with a list of multiple "other" projects in mind for another day or week. My list grew, as we talked.. Enjoyed visiting with him and probably slowed up his progress even more. I would recommend Jack of All Trades to anyone. Thanks, Brent.

Minor roof leak causing a major problem. I entered info on Thumbtack and immediately got a list of prospective companies to repair. I started reviewing and saw that with Milliken Roofing, the owner himself would come provide an estimate! I reached Jason on the first call and he responded immediately! Very honest estimate. Work was scheduled and completed on time. No doubt, this is who I will call when I need a complete re-roof or a repair! I highly recommend Jason and Milliken Roofing! This guy is "handshake" honest and reliable! Bill in Brentwood

I contacted the Better Business Bureau of Middle Tennessee on a Saturday morning looking for a trustworthy roofing contractor to replace the roof on our house. Within a few hours, I was contacted by 3 roofing contractors. I made appointments with all 3, the 1st on Sunday, the 2nd on Monday, and the 3rd on Tuesday. The 1st contractor was going to use 3 tab shingles and quoted me the lowest price. The 2nd contractor was going to use GAF Timberline Shingles, which he showed us, for about twice the price. This 3rd appointment was with Hometown Roofing. Doug Ferris, the owner of Hometown Roofing was on time for our appointment on Tuesday. Unfortunately, before he made it to our front door, he got a call about a family emergency. Doug explained the situation and we rescheduled for Wednesday. I appreciated Doug asking to reschedule in order to take care of his family. That says a lot about him and his family. When Doug showed up on Wednesday, he was again on time. Unlike the 2 previous contractors, Doug was much more professional. He represented GAF, too. He began with a presentation showing why we should use GAF Timberline Shingles. But Doug went beyond mere shingles. His presentation was about a roofing system offered by GAF called The Lifetime Roofing System. What Doug presented included GAF Timberline Lifetime Shingles, Cobra Attic Ventilation, Deck Armor Rood Deck Protection, Pro-Start Starter Strip Shingles, StormGuard Leak Barrier and Ice Dam Protection, and Seal-A-Ridge Ridge Cap Shingles. Both the materials and workmanship have a lifetime warranty. Doug is a Certified GAF Roofing System Installer, so he can offer this system. We were expecting this system to be a significantly higher price to the 2nd quote, after all it was a complete system offered with a lifetime warranty and installed by a professional certified by GAF, but it was only marginally more expensive. At the end of the day, what Hometown Roofing offered was a much better value, so it made our decision easy. The execution of the installation and clean up went smoothly. We are very happy with the investment we made in our home thanks to Doug Ferris of Hometown Roofing. We recommend The GAF Lifetime Roofing System and Doug Ferris at Hometown Roofing to execute professional installation.

Dustin Guyton was easy and fun to work with. He was responsive to any questions that arose during the process. His crew was neat and quick. Getting a new roof is never a fun process, but Guyton Roofing took out some of that pain and helped make it that much easier.

Derrick was a pleasure to work with. His team completed a large job for me - tearing down all gutters, wood fascia, all old aluminum siding around the fascia, and replaced the fascia with new lumber, replaced shingles around the perimeter of the roof to establish the proper shingle overhang for the new drip edge, and installed brand new seamless gutters. He was fair on price, responsive at every step of the way, and honest. I would highly recommend for any job.

I needed a new French drain for my driveway and found AHS through the ThumbTack app. Allen was very quick to respond to my request on ThumbTack and came the following day to give me a quote. The AHS quote was very reasonable and their team completed the work quickly. Allen then came out to inspect the work and to make sure I was completely satisfied ... which I definitely was! I'll definitely use them again and HIGHLY recommend them.

Sam has been great to work with start to finish. Very responsive and professional. Great moral. Worked with me on finishing up our metal roof installation when we bit off more than we could handle ourselves. Great job done in less time than expected and it looks great! If I ever need another roofing company-I will call Complete Roofing! Thank you so much for the rapid help and dedication to the guys bearing this dreadful Summer heat! I would have selected value and punctuality as well but I could only select 3. This company did great work.

Javier and his crew were as professional as they come. They showed up on time, completed the work as proposed, and even explained everything they were doing as the job progressed! I know working with contractors can be a head ache at times and it’s hard to trust some , but this was not the case with A&D roofing. I highly recommend!

Mr. Velasco and his crew have always performed there jobs in the exact time frame he has always said they would when he gives his bid. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
