JUST DO IT! Honestly, hiring Kate was so much more incredible than I ever envisioned. I can't say enough things. I just moved into a new house and was looking for a whole new look and a fresh start. However, after Kate looked at all the items I already had, she encouraged me to try to use as much of my existing items. She also found new uses for pieces I had for years - and displayed sentimental items I had forgotten I had. I hadn't even realized I told her about a jewelry box my late grandmother had given me and when I came home it was prominently displayed and I can now look at it every day. There were so many items like that she did. She was the best money I have ever spent - and she actually saved me a lot by not giving in to me wanting to buy all new. I have referred her out many times and everyone has been so happy. **I by accident reviewed her interior design under wardrobe consulting - she did both for me as she was just so great to work with decorating that when she told me she did wardrobe consulting I took her up on it. WOW - that was amazing too. I edited my closet so perfectly and never feel like I don't have anything to wear ;) Thank you, Kate!

Decelle helped me immensely. I was lost until I found her. She made the entire process of picking out furniture, and color schemes so easy. She asked a few questions and in a couple hours she basically had my apartment done. I would recommend to anyone who doesn't have the time, talent, or patience to design. L

I enjoyed her. She really knew her stuff and was up front and honest about what works and what does not. With her help I was able to decorate my home with the right color schemes and home decor. I would definitely hire her again for future projects. My new home decor is awesome.

Sherry has a great eye for color and the ability to pull together everything to make the house warm and inviting. She combined my decorating accessories in a way that made them look great. It was a lot of fun working with Sherry. She made beautiful selections and is very honest. I trust her completely and will call her for my next project.

Whitney Rogers, owner of The WR Agency, is AMAZING! She was highly recommended by friends, and after seeing the stunning transformations she produced in previous projects (and at a budget no less!), she was the only choice to hire for my home floor plan design and decoration when building my home. Whitney took the “vague” concept I had of my dream house (I’m an accountant with zero creativity) and created a space that is exactly what I dreamed of – all while being mindful of the budget I had. It is truly magazine worthy!! The home building process is often stressful and frustrating in working with builders, contractors and making so many decisions. Throughout the entire process, Whitney was patient with my endless questions and indecisiveness. She made sure I was absolutely certain about all of the decisions made and never pushed me into a choice I wasn’t comfortable with. Her work with Regent Homes proved invaluable in discussions with builders and contractors as she was able to expertly convey my wishes and sometimes even mediate on my behalf! (Have I mentioned the building process can be frustrating?) I never thought I’d use a designer. I certainly never thought I could afford one. So if you’re on the fence, I’d suggest giving her a call for a consult. You’ll be happy that you did! I certainly am!

I Hired Christina Perry to design and decorate my new condo after deciding I didn't know what to do. My condo was a blank canvas and I was completely overwhelmed. I had so many ideas of what I wanted but was unsure of which direction to go. Christina actually cared about keeping my ideas and made them "new and improved" without overdoing it. She presented me with all sorts of options that were geared toward my taste. I loved that she came to me constantly with options and new ideas before I made my decision, that's how I knew she was searching to get the best done for me, and she did!! From paint color to helping me pick out furniture to a custom bookcase and custom dining table (that I love!) and all the finishing touches for all my rooms (living room, dining room, den/wine bar and bedroom). Christina was patient with me all along the way and went above and beyond my expectations. She gave great advice and what would and won’t work in my space. She had great ideas and such vision for how to make my space work for me and my lifestyle. She was extremely attentive with all the details big or small. Working with Christina Perry was best move I ever made. I Highly Recommend her! I am so grateful I found you Christina, you made this process so enjoyable. I love my home and excited to come home every day and see your beautiful craftsmanship! Christina thank you for everything and for being my "Designer Guardian Angel". I love my home!!!!

I recently called several interior decorators to come into my home for advise regarding draperies and colors. I was not satified with their responses. Yvonne Nolte called me right away and listening to all my concerns was able to satisfy my budget and give me a very professional look one that I am very pleased with. Everything fit from the moment I met her, to the work that was done throughout my home. Bonding with Yvonne quickly I knew she understood what I wanted and was able to mirror my wishes exactly to a "TEE." Lastly, the project was finished ahead of schedule allowing me to savor in its beauty before my company arrived from out of town.

Megan has been working with me on the design of my new home for over a year. She really takes your style to the next level. She listens to what you want and puts a fresh perspective on the entire design. Megan has helped increase the functionality of my home and increase much needed storage. She is easy to work with and very responsive when you have questions. Megan recently did a master bathroom renovation for me and I could not be happier with the results! She also picked out the paint colors for my home, updated the light fixtures and made sure dependable, quality contractors worked on the projects. I am looking forward to working with her on my next renovation: kitchen and powder room.

When I first saw the room that Hearthstone Interior Design designed I felt an enormous feeling of tranquility. I just looked around and ask myself what is it that gives me that feeling. Somehow , when I looked at the living area, everything seemed right, the lighting, the colors, the furnishings and little by little I realized that there was a lot of thought and planning put behind it. The room had acquired a calm elegance. now enjoy each hour I spend in the room, thanks to their talents.

Gerald was the 1st to respond to my request for service. He communicated quickly and effectively using both Thumbtack and text. He came the next day to start the job and finished in 2 days. He informed what he was going to do, and consulted about decision points, such as color and texture of stain. I was very pleased and would use him again.

We had a completely empty room off of our kitchen. It was becoming a huge eye sore. Everyone visiting our home said, “Oh, you just moved in.” No, we just didn’t know what to do with the space or how to do it. Enter Katelyn. In only one consultation visit she squared up the room, listened to my concerns and budget, and created a vision that has exceeded my expectations. What took her no time at all would have taken me months to do even if I had an ounce of her creativity. I highly recommend bringing Katelyn into any decorating or design project. It will be done beautifully, on budget, and on time. Well done, Katelyn. Thank you!

First met Connie about 5 years ago when our house was under construction. She helped with the placement and selection of all the lighting and electrical. She saved me a lot of money by preventing mistakes. I had not planned to consult a pro, but decided that I would save time and money with her help as we put the house together. We've been working on this as time/finances permit. First off, she is very good listener. Also a whiz at reusing items that you already own. We moved some pieces around and then had old family pieces repaired/refinished/recovered and the space really works. We've also shopped for new pieces and light fixtures with her help. She has an impeccable sense of space, scale and color and is well connected with local craftspeople. She can give you as much guidance and help as you want or need. We've had nothing but compliments from visitors to our home and have enjoyed the process instead of it being stressful or frustrating.

We went to JL Design for help with a small project: selecting the right drapes for our bedroom. Jessica is a true expert: she was able to walk me and my husband through different color schemes and explained why/which colors complemented our walls, carpet, and existing bedding and decor. She also took into account our lifestyle (pets and children) to select the best fabric for us. They've just been ordered and we can't wait to enjoy them in our bedroom. We're confident in our purchase because of Jessica's guidance. We're excited to work with her on larger projects soon!

I started working with Shannon 7 years ago when my family purchased a home in Franklin. She assisted us in selecting paint colors, furniture, rugs, and when it was time for us to move we flew Shannon to Pennsylvania to help us with our new home. Shannon took the time to get to know us - what we were looking for and how much time we were able to devote to the process. She made selecting items easy for us. Shannon is very responsive, easy to work with, and respectful of your budget. We continue to engage Shannon now and would love to bring her back to PA when we have bigger projects.

My living room/kitchen space lacks color and "pop", so I hired Tessa to come and give me a push in the right direction. From the start she was professional in every way! She really listened to my likes and dislikes, and what I want the space to become. She asked general and specific questions about what items I really wanted to keep and what was "negotiable". She measured my space, and within a week, delivered 2 options, with all the pieces interchangeable, of what my space could become. My husband and I were impressed! She nailed our style, and introduced items to nudge us out of our comfort zone. While we are "do-it-yourself" folks, I won't hesitate to call Tessa for any further assistance with our project. It has been a fantastic experience!

        What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

        • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
        • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
        • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
        • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

        • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
        • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
        • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
        • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
