Steve was hired to to do what we thought was a simple tile job, replacing missing/damaged tiles to the shower wall in our recently purchased home. After removing the old tile, we were shocked to find out that the walls were totally rotted out! Upon further inspection he discovered the floor (and subflooring) under the tub was rotted also! The cause of all the water damage? Old, rusty deteriorated plumbing fixtures (pipes, drains faucets) that were hidden from plain view. Steve "held our hand" every step of the way, assuring us through his calm demeanor, expertise and skill as he spent the next three days tearing out all old bath and shower components (including floors and walls) and totally rebuilding and installing the new shower and tub! Knowing we were first time homeowners who just moved in, he was extremely generous with the bill he presented to us. We will definitely call on him for future repairs/remodel projects!

KPL completed a deck staining job for me. He powerwashed all the years of mold and mildew off of it, let it dry for a few days and came back to finish the job. My deck is massive. Dushane was always on time when he said he would be here, curtious and professional. One day while working I had someone delivering some furniture, however the guys sent were clearly struggling to get the couch upstairs. He even pitched in with that. A+ service. Never had a nicer young man working in my home. And my deckblooks fabulous!!!

Working with a very short timeline, Stan went above and beyond to ensure the best possible price, recommended a great interior paint (with kids) and put our minds at ease with the timeline we had to work with. I am recommending you call Palmetto & get their estimate first to compare the difference in customer service and pricing. I wish I would've searched through thumb tack first because this really was the best costumer service and quality work done in my opinion. Thank you for the peace of mind Stan!

We hired Home Pros to renovate our kitchen, including removing some walls, adding new cabinets and painting old ones and replacing all fixtures, lighting, appliances and hardware. I knew exactly what I wanted, and Stacey spent hours going over my plans in detail in order to dot every i and cross every t. Everyone who worked on the project was pleasant, professional and hardworking. We couldn't be happier with our new kitchen and highly recommend Home Pros for any remodeling needs!

In an age of hiring crews of cheap labor, where "good enough" is just that, it's refreshing to find someone who is a true craftsman. Paul is what others here have stated, hard working, skilled and lightning fast. He is also someone who can not only hang the store bought cabinets but can build the cabinets from scratch. I am well pleased with the work he has done and highly recommend his services.

I've designed custom closets and storage for 11 years. I worked with Rick for 10 years and know firsthand the quality of his work. Rick takes great pride in every job, pays attention to every detail and will respect your home or place of business as if it was his own. Your custom closet, kitchen cabinets or other storage areas will be cleaned and ready for you to move back in. If it's a multiple day installation, the area will be left clean each day. Rick is passionate about the quality products and great customer service he provides. I highly recommend Rick Sonthavi for your next project!

Mike has done a complete bathroom remodel for us including the framing, electrical, plumbing, tile, painting etc.. It was a terrific job within budget and on time. Additionally, he has done a host of other jobs that include one or more of the skills previously listed and is highly competent and honest--a true professional craftsman.

Mr McClain was hired to perform a variety of repairs at our home. They were: 1- repairing an area of our kitchen hardwood floor that had been damaged by a water leak from the refrigerator, laying tile to do so on part, 2- remove a cabinet above the fridge, 3- replace the tread boards on two sets of stairs, removing carpet, finishing the treads, and installing the new ones, 4-replace and fix the outside lower sill of three windows, 5- replace two ceiling lights with a light/fan and light in the kitchen/eating area. Mr. McClain was very easy to work with. He is very knowledgeable and able to facilitate these repairs. He was very patient with all of my questions and shared what he was doing if I asked. His fees were very reasonable, and he communicated well his responsibilities and mine in these repairs. I would definitely ask him to come again when we have more things to repair.

Wayne recently replaced a bedroom floor, installed new windows and did a bathroom remodel for us, with a new tile floor, refurbishing cabinets, changing out the fixtures and adding a beadboard to the lower halves of the walls. He had great suggestions for ways to improve the look of the bathroom. The hardwood floors look terrific and Wayne went above and beyond when he found a way to get a large closet done with the available materials, (which had not been computed to include the closet.) The windows look great and no more leaks.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

      How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
