Introduction: Simon Barz is a percussionist based in Nashville, TN. He began studying percussion at the age of 12. From a young age, he had a knack for rhythm. At first, his focus was drum set, but recently, he has become well-versed in the study of pitched percussion, especially mallets and timpani. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in May of 2014. For four years, he played snare drum in the Hillsboro Marching Band Drumline. He was a member of Trollwood Performing Arts School's orchestra in the summer of 2010 and has been a two-time member of Sankofa Performing Ensemble at Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music. He has also played percussion in five Hillsboro Players productions: Urinetown, Little Shop of Horrors, Rent, Fools, and Seussical the Musical. Barz now plays with the Andrew Lowry Band in addition to giving lessons and teaching at local high schools. Barz will be attending Belmont University in the fall of 2014 and pursuing a degree in Music Business at Belmont's Curb College. Over the years, Barz has studied with esteemed Nashville percussionists Mark Niemiec, Steve Ebe, and Tim Provence.
