I didn't know anything about this company before I hired them to replace gutters on a rental house for us in Franklin. They were very responsive! They matched the color of the new gutter to the house very well. They also added gutter guard. We were so happy that we asked them to add gutters on our log cabin in the same county. We weren't knowing what to expect since it is rustic with a metal roof. They did a beautiful job on it as well! It blends right in and was placed perfectly. I would recommend this company to anyone!

First of all, I just want to say that this experience was a sigh of relief compared to the thievery that happened a year ago! Last year, we were scammed by a roofer (Jeff Lorber of Envision LLC) that came to our door telling us we could get our roof redone because of a hail storm. So, we worked with him to file a claim with our home owners insurance and they approved the claim. We handed over the check and planned on scheduling the work for the beginning of the next month.... Needless to say... We never saw that man again. And were left to fend for ourselves. So when we finally got the money to repair our roof... We used thumbtack. It was a great service where we could check out the roofers we wanted. Brent was the first to respond... The first to give me a quote and the first to give me two references. He's very easy to work with and pricing is very reasonable. I would recommend him to anyone... Even those who have been scammed in the past. Do your homework.... But definitely trust this review.

They showed up on time and gave a free estimate that I agreed to. He explained why my roof was leaking and had materials on the truck to fix the problem immediately.

I contacted the Better Business Bureau of Middle Tennessee on a Saturday morning looking for a trustworthy roofing contractor to replace the roof on our house. Within a few hours, I was contacted by 3 roofing contractors. I made appointments with all 3, the 1st on Sunday, the 2nd on Monday, and the 3rd on Tuesday. The 1st contractor was going to use 3 tab shingles and quoted me the lowest price. The 2nd contractor was going to use GAF Timberline Shingles, which he showed us, for about twice the price. This 3rd appointment was with Hometown Roofing. Doug Ferris, the owner of Hometown Roofing was on time for our appointment on Tuesday. Unfortunately, before he made it to our front door, he got a call about a family emergency. Doug explained the situation and we rescheduled for Wednesday. I appreciated Doug asking to reschedule in order to take care of his family. That says a lot about him and his family. When Doug showed up on Wednesday, he was again on time. Unlike the 2 previous contractors, Doug was much more professional. He represented GAF, too. He began with a presentation showing why we should use GAF Timberline Shingles. But Doug went beyond mere shingles. His presentation was about a roofing system offered by GAF called The Lifetime Roofing System. What Doug presented included GAF Timberline Lifetime Shingles, Cobra Attic Ventilation, Deck Armor Rood Deck Protection, Pro-Start Starter Strip Shingles, StormGuard Leak Barrier and Ice Dam Protection, and Seal-A-Ridge Ridge Cap Shingles. Both the materials and workmanship have a lifetime warranty. Doug is a Certified GAF Roofing System Installer, so he can offer this system. We were expecting this system to be a significantly higher price to the 2nd quote, after all it was a complete system offered with a lifetime warranty and installed by a professional certified by GAF, but it was only marginally more expensive. At the end of the day, what Hometown Roofing offered was a much better value, so it made our decision easy. The execution of the installation and clean up went smoothly. We are very happy with the investment we made in our home thanks to Doug Ferris of Hometown Roofing. We recommend The GAF Lifetime Roofing System and Doug Ferris at Hometown Roofing to execute professional installation.

If you're experiencing any kind of water damage, mold issues, or even suspect that you have anything of the sort--call Advanced Home Solutions! I had a great experience with Bryan and would trust him to fix literally anything in my home if he would do it. He came to inspect a potential roof/gutter leak that was causing ceiling water damage. Went above and beyond to advise me on how to actually fix it myself. Gave me pointers on other problematic areas around my house too that I should keep an eye on. I value his expertise and opinion and will be calling him in the future.

As a landlord with a taste for upgraded finishes, I was challenged in picking a quality and reputable roofer as I live out of town. Ben was transparent, accommodating and answered all of my questions thoroughly and immediately. He directed me to a local store where I live to view the shingle selection. He quoted me a fair and extremely competitive price to replace my roof damaged by fallen trees from a storm. He was expedient in providing all of his business licensing information for verification. He sent photos and updates throughout the project as I was unable to be on-site. Additionally, he was instrumental in sending me photos of other areas of my home that sustained storm-damage and recommended contractors with whom he has personally worked with and vetted. His team finished my roof in one day and replaced two gutters, one unexpected, the following day. It doesn't hurt that he was also pleasant throughout the process and has a great sense of humor. In short, I would recommend Music Country Roofing without hesitation. After such a pleasant and streamlined experience, I would be pick Ben and his team of roofers again!

Javier responded to my inquirie to repair my roof almost immediately! He contacted me within the hour. He then came out and when he saw what needed to be done, he gave me a good price and already had the tools and supplies on hand to fix it right away. He was very professional and easy to discuss what needed to be done. He made sure to take a picture of the repair on top of my roof before and after so I would be assured it was fixed right. I highly recommend him for any of your roofing needs! Thanks for a job well done!

Sam has been great to work with start to finish. Very responsive and professional. Great moral. Worked with me on finishing up our metal roof installation when we bit off more than we could handle ourselves. Great job done in less time than expected and it looks great! If I ever need another roofing company-I will call Complete Roofing! Thank you so much for the rapid help and dedication to the guys bearing this dreadful Summer heat! I would have selected value and punctuality as well but I could only select 3. This company did great work.

I had hired Kyle of Cornerstone General Contractors to repair my roof and gutter that were damaged from a hail storm that happened during the summer months, also I had a leak inside one of the bathrooms from that storm also, he and his crew came early to do roof the next morning and finished in one day. They made sure every thing was picked up and cleaned like it was when they started. The crew that took care of the interior of the bathroom came the next day and started working on the ceiling and wall that was damaged. it took them two days for replacing wall board and ceiling area. After that they repainted the whole bathroom. He and his crew are a TRULY profressional in the work they do. I WOULD DEFINITELY hire them for any project that i would have in the future.

My husband had the initial (phone) contact with Kevin at BK Barns. He is not easily impressed, as he has been one to build many things on his own. He felt very secure with Kevin's knowledge and eagerness to work "with" him on any project. Our first project was a metal roof on an existing house. It was done quickly, with no delay (unless weather intervened). And, very importantly, the job was clean--No nails, or residual materials left around. BK also constructed a huge three car garage for this property. Once again, very professional. If you go with BK Barns, you get a quality job at an honest price and done on time with a contractor who stays "on the job". Kevin is someone who we feel we can call on for most anything. He also was a huge source of aid when we had property flood in Nashville. We are very thankful that we have crossed paths with Kevin and his company, BK Barns.

Bluebird Construction was recommended to us from a friend, and we're so happy we went with them. Danny H was our agent. He was efficient, kind, and he educated me on the issues I had with my roof, without trying to oversell. There's something to be said for getting exactly what you ask for from a contractor. The entire process from bid to completion was conducted in a timely manner, came in exactly at the cost he said it would with no surprises and looked better than I could have ever imagined. I would definitely rehire them in the future.

I couldn't be happier. My experience with Pro Restoration was straight forward and smooth. They helped me out with my insurance claim. We had an adjuster co.e out to our house because we had a roof leak. I knew the amount they paid was wrong. Pro Restoration's representative explained what went wrong with the adjustment and he handled getting it straightened out. I like the fact that the representative was an adjuster previously. Our claim was initially $1800 and it ended up over $6000 once Pro Restoration dealt with the insurance company. We decided to upgrade our shingle roof to a metal roof for a little more money. The crew was very professional in every way. I recommend Pro Restoration to everyone every chance I get. They really did a great job from start to finish.

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION for: Tim Wolf of Wolf Home Improvements by: John. Carlisle (homeowner) Mount Juliet, TN Tel.: 615-717-5371 Date of remodel: October 25, 2016 To whom it may concern: It is my pleasure to write this unsolicited letter of recommendation on behalf of Tim Wolf. Tim was the general contractor for a remodeling project on the exterior of my house in the fall of 2016. I had no prior relationship with Tim, who was recommended by an architect friend of mine. The scope of the remodeling involved window replacement (22 windows and 3 patio doors), siding replacement (approximately 4000 sq. ft.), replacement of 2 decks along with installation of stainless steel cable railing, and roof replacement (approximately 2400 sq. ft.) for a three level house built in 1978. The project took 8 weeks and involved 4 work crews (carpenters, siding, painters, roofing) plus electrician and structural engineer, at a budget of just over $100,000. While major remodeling is inherently stressful for almost any homeowner, Tim's services as a general contractor were invaluable, and I am extremely pleased with the final result. Specifically, I would give Tim top marks in the following areas: 1. Quality of work performed. The quality of work done was consistently top notch. Tim used subcontractors who were knowledgeable, skilled, and competent in their respective trades. They were conscientious about following project specifications, and their work product rarely needed improvement or revision. 2. Quality of work crews. Other than one relatively minor exception which Tim promptly addressed once I brought it to his attention, the workmen whom Tim utilized were professional, reliable, courteous, and respectful of the homeowner’s property and privacy. They had an old school work ethic (often 10-hour days, some Saturdays), good work habits, strong safety orientation, and emphasized getting the job done right rather than doing it fast. Their pride in their work was evident. They tidied up at the end of each workday. I also found them to be trustworthy, and my wife and I felt comfortable with allowing them access inside our home. 3. Project management and coordination. Tim's prior experience working in construction really paid off. He was knowledgeable about all aspects of our project, and was able to plan, coordinate and manage the activities of different work crews effectively. He remained closely involved in overseeing the project from start to finish. His excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills and commitment to follow-through are assets which enabled him to juggle the extensive details involved in our project without missing a beat. Tim's familiarity with building codes and dealing with city hall also facilitated a smooth and hassle-free process when it came to building permits and inspection. 4. Integrity and professionalism. Throughout the project, I was impressed with Tim's commitment to generating a top quality product, rather than maximizing his profit margin. When situations arose where extra work needed to be done (because of hidden problems that were not apparent until work on the house had commenced), Tim either (if it was relatively minor) took care of it without charging me extra, or (if it was more extensive) involved me in an informed decision making process that culminated in a change order which was fair. In another situation in which I was not satisfied with the aesthetics of nail holes on the siding battens even though the latter had been installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions, Tim agreed with me and arranged to have the nail holes filled and battens painted - a job which involved many additional hours - without passing the expense on to me. 5. Effective communication. Tim kept me closely informed of work crew schedules, delivery dates, and projected completion dates of different phases of our project. His communication (whether by cell phone or email) was always clear, informative, and helpful. He was either available on his cell phone, or returned my phone call within 2-3 hours. We never had a single miscommunication throughout the 2-month project. His communication with the work crews was just as effective. 6. Flexibility and effectiveness in dealing with unexpected developments. When unforeseen problems surfaced (e.g., water damage behind a wall, structural problems with the existing cantilevered joists for an upper deck), Tim worked diligently with me to identify a solution that was acceptable to me. He utilized resources effectively (e.g., enlisting the services of a structural engineer in a limited fashion) and creatively (e.g., identifying a special type of edge vent for my roof that had minimal overhang), and directed the work crew to make changes necessary for implementing the solution. 7. Responsiveness to homeowner’s needs and concerns. Tim's commitment to homeowner satisfaction was evident in his actions. On the few occasions when I brought a request or concern to his attention (e.g., when I wanted the roofing done before all of the exterior painting was completed), he listened attentively, and always took appropriate action that demonstrated responsiveness to my needs or concerns. When the painting crew fell behind of schedule, Tim showed up on a Saturday and helped with the exterior painting. His service orientation is truly described by the motto: “The homeowner’s needs come first.” 8. Truth in advertising. In his proposal, Tim gave a clear breakdown of costs for each facet of the project. His contract was just as detailed in describing the work to be done and the itemized costs. Same with the change orders. When the project was completed, all the work was done as described and agreed upon, and there were no hidden costs, extra expenses or unpleasant surprises. As a homeowner and customer, I felt Tim delivered exactly what he had promised, at the agreed upon price. 9. Value. I had solicited three bids for my remodeling project. Although Tim's bid was not the lowest, I am absolutely convinced that he delivered the best value (in terms of the work done) for the price. 10. Sensitivity to work site appearance and neighbor relations. Our project required a huge dumpster and a portable toilet (for the work crew), and there was very limited parking. Tim's placement of the dumpster, portable toilet, and construction materials was based not solely on function and convenience, but showed a consideration for the aesthetics of the work site. The work crew parked their vehicles in ways that were minimally disruptive to the neighborhood traffic, and their conduct never caused any discomfort to our neighbors. In the two months during this project, there was not one single neighbor complaint! Instead, three different neighbors passed on compliments about the work crews (e.g., “those guys really work hard”). In closing, I am very pleased with the final product which Tim was instrumental in delivering, and I am extremely impressed with his work as a general contractor. In a world where shoddy workmanship and poor service are unfortunately all too common, Tim is indeed a rare find. I have been a homeowner for over 30 years, and I took this unprecedented step of writing an unsolicited letter of recommendation for Tim because I believe that exceptional work should be recognized. I would not hesitate to hire Tim again, or to recommend him to my friends and neighbors. I recommend Tim Wolf to you most enthusiastically, and without any reservations. If you have any questions about my experience with Tim, please feel free to call me at 615-717-5371 John Carlisle A very satisfied homeowner

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
