Brent and his team were terrific. With him at the helm, we transformed the interior of my home from dated and dark, to happy and light ---- it's now a contemporary retreat that I can't wait to get home to every night! From beginning to end, working with Brent was a pleasure. His quote beat out others by a long shot. The quality is superb. He was quick to communicate and/or respond throughout the whole process -- really important as I had to be away much of the time. He even stepped in a couple of times to deal with other contractors in my absence. Brent's team members were always extremely professional, and all of them showed up exactly when expected. In total, a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend Brent and Jack of All Trades!

I really can’t say enough about these guys. They were simply above and beyond what I would have ever expected. They were hands down by far the most impressive and professional contractors I have worked with on Thumbtack. I just bought a house and needed some rooms painted as quickly as possible before we moved everything in. With less than a weeks notice, I had a professional bid and contract signed, and they were here getting to work the day I moved in. On top of that I added a couple of rooms that they were still able to complete in my tight timeline. The quality of their work is what sets them apart from anyone else. I am a contractor and I am a perfectionist. Usually I would have handled this on my own, but just didn’t have the time. Still I never expected to get the kind of quality work that I got. They spent as much time on prepping the walls as they did painting them. In the end the result were walls that were like brand new. I couldn’t be happier with the work that I got, the price that I paid for it, and with the overall experience of working with Summit Painting. I have already recommended to several friends and family and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a professional paint job. I already have plans to have them paint the rest of the house once we get settled. You won’t find better painters anywhere in town.

Jason at Milliken's Roofing is the best! He found the source of my roof leak in about 2 minutes. Other roofers wanted to do work that would not have fixed the problem. If you have any roof issues, RUN, don't walk, to Milliken's Roofing!

We bought an older home in Donelson that needed some serious kitchen updating and repair from the 1960's construction. We had a vision on what it could look like. JAZ construction made it all come true. They are outstanding, professional contractors who look out for your satisfaction and pocketbook, every step of the way. We could not be happier in the process and outcome of our kitchen. I would never go anywhere else for remodeling needs. Jose and Fernando are All-Stars. These guys are the best!!

I contacted the Better Business Bureau of Middle Tennessee on a Saturday morning looking for a trustworthy roofing contractor to replace the roof on our house. Within a few hours, I was contacted by 3 roofing contractors. I made appointments with all 3, the 1st on Sunday, the 2nd on Monday, and the 3rd on Tuesday. The 1st contractor was going to use 3 tab shingles and quoted me the lowest price. The 2nd contractor was going to use GAF Timberline Shingles, which he showed us, for about twice the price. This 3rd appointment was with Hometown Roofing. Doug Ferris, the owner of Hometown Roofing was on time for our appointment on Tuesday. Unfortunately, before he made it to our front door, he got a call about a family emergency. Doug explained the situation and we rescheduled for Wednesday. I appreciated Doug asking to reschedule in order to take care of his family. That says a lot about him and his family. When Doug showed up on Wednesday, he was again on time. Unlike the 2 previous contractors, Doug was much more professional. He represented GAF, too. He began with a presentation showing why we should use GAF Timberline Shingles. But Doug went beyond mere shingles. His presentation was about a roofing system offered by GAF called The Lifetime Roofing System. What Doug presented included GAF Timberline Lifetime Shingles, Cobra Attic Ventilation, Deck Armor Rood Deck Protection, Pro-Start Starter Strip Shingles, StormGuard Leak Barrier and Ice Dam Protection, and Seal-A-Ridge Ridge Cap Shingles. Both the materials and workmanship have a lifetime warranty. Doug is a Certified GAF Roofing System Installer, so he can offer this system. We were expecting this system to be a significantly higher price to the 2nd quote, after all it was a complete system offered with a lifetime warranty and installed by a professional certified by GAF, but it was only marginally more expensive. At the end of the day, what Hometown Roofing offered was a much better value, so it made our decision easy. The execution of the installation and clean up went smoothly. We are very happy with the investment we made in our home thanks to Doug Ferris of Hometown Roofing. We recommend The GAF Lifetime Roofing System and Doug Ferris at Hometown Roofing to execute professional installation.

Met with Brian Duke for an estimate. He was extremely knowledgeable, honest, and someone I will work with in the future. Based from his honesty I didn't need work at this time. An honest Contractor means allot! I asked him about future prevention though and what he presented was extremely helpful in something I will do in the future. He was completely reasonable too! I will definitely be recommending him to others as well!

Best Construction Company I've Ever Worked With! Hands Down! Scott Roofing Company replaced my roof and gutters on my home in Franklin, TN. Our roof was over 20 years old and badly needing replacement. Ron, the owner, gave us a competitive price and even provided financing through Admiral's Bank. We called Ron back a few months later to install new 6" gutters. Our house looks great and me and my wife couldn't be happier! - BOB W.

I contacted 5 highly credited roofing companies and by far after meeting Mr. Morrow me and my wife knew then we were definitely were we belong. He came in and discussed our technical breakdowns in and outs of a few systems we had already heard of and took in mind how many adults and children lived in our home and explained proper ventilation in order to keep all of our generated moisture flowing out of our house at a high rate making my family healthier and our roof last longer over the years to come. Very knowledgeable and professional in every single way. We are so glad we chose complete Roofing to do our roof and would highly recommend them to all of our friends and family. Thanks guys for a job well done.

Mr. Richardson and his team were excellent to work with. A lot of contractors will give you the run around and say they can start this date or have something finished by this date and you end up waiting or not even getting the project finished. That isn’t the case with this company.

We had interviewed other renovation companies and know the the many horror stories from friends and neighbors about selecting the wrong ones. Amin was always professional, patient and courteous. He showed a high level of responsiveness and respect. We enjoyed working with all of you. We would definitely use this company again and would recommend you and your company without reservation.‎

Javier and his crew were as professional as they come. They showed up on time, completed the work as proposed, and even explained everything they were doing as the job progressed! I know working with contractors can be a head ache at times and it’s hard to trust some , but this was not the case with A&D roofing. I highly recommend!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
