We hired Defining the Moments for Engagement and Wedding day photography. If you are looking for out of focus, unprofessional photography then look no further! We took many photos for engagement and only received a handful back and had to ask for several other poses that we took that we didn't get. I had many people tell me then that was a big red flag, but I wanted to have faith it would work. Wedding day arrived and we lost him for about an hour, nobody knew where he went, when he was supposed to be doing photos of my hair (which I have none). Then as the ceremony goes on, he keeps busy and seems to be capturing our lovely wedding, but when it's time to be doing family and wedding party photos he gets irritated. I had guests asking Me, "What's wrong with him? He seems mad." I guess our family was bigger than he expected and it was taking a while. When it was time to go over the photos after the wedding, he informs us they have already been picked out and chosen for the album...which he told us several times we would do together. My husband went to meet this photographer and instead of being happy for him to view the work and wait for him to see the photos, he takes off. Husband brings home the album and the disk with photos, needless to say we were not happy when we saw them. He put 60 photos in the album already of hairspray, makeup, my shoes that are blurry, one of my jewelry that's not even in focus....None of the family photos, None of the wedding party line up. A lot of pictures are half of us not even in the photo and the ones he captured of people at tables of the reception are of their backs....Also that disk he gave us only had 68 others on it that weren't in the album. We had to again ask for other poses that we know he took, but we didn't get. He got mad and sent us an additional 70 photos only adding up to 198 photos of our wedding....pardon me but everybody I've talked to said that that's not a sufficient number. My husband and I asked for a disk with all the originals, didn't matter if they were edited or not...the photographer tells us he is not 'contracted' to do that..Even tho there's nothing in his contract that states this. So, Click off this page, find someone else. Check their portfolios, check their contracts. Get somebody that does this for a living, not just a side gig they barely care about.
Defining the Moments Photography's reply
In response to Shelby's comments, I will say that I have done nothing but try to go the extra mile for this couple since day one. When I first agreed to shoot their wedding it was explained up front the range of pictures they would receive with the standard package. It clearly states on my site that you will receive 25+ photos in the album as well as all images on a CD. Shelby received 60 images in her album as well as an engagement session which is not even normally apart of the package she chose. All together they received her engagement pictures and 198 wedding pictures. I was trying to be nice and help her out but obviously that was not appreciated. As far as the engagement session, I drove 45 minutes to the location of their choice to shoot their engagement pictures only to find out that the place we were suppose to shoot was locked. Instead of canceling the shoot, I let her know we could go somewhere else to shoot them which required me riding around with them until they found an alternate site. I did not charge them any extra for my time even though I had to rearrange my schedule that day to accommodate for their mishap. I also normally charge extra for going to multiple locations to shoot an engagement session but again I was trying to be nice and accommodating so they were not charged. These are details that Shelby has conveniently left out of her story trying to paint a false picture that she was the victim in all this. I will now fast forward to the wedding pictures. She mentioned in her comments she lost me for an hour. What Shelby conveniently leaves out her story yet again is the fact that when I arrived to take my pictures of her she was not ready at the time she was suppose to be which actually caused me to sit around and wait on her. She also fails to mention that she was in one location and the groom was in another location that was about 15 minutes away depending on if traffic was good. This required me to go back and forth from the Hotel to the venue where he was suppose to be. I am sorry but I can not be in two places at one time. When I left the Hotel to go back to the venue, the groom mentioned that he was running late so I went back to the Hotel to try and get some other shots. I had designated times I wanted to shoot certain shots but because they were not as timely on their end as they could have been that left me having to scrounge to make up for it. These are all things that are factual and have been conveniently left out of this story in an attempt to discredit me. As far as the pictures being out of focus, this just simply isn't true and stems from the fact that they feel I should have sent them 1400 pictures that included many duplicates. At the end of the day, I stand behind my decision not to send duplicates. This is a classic example of someone trying to take advantage of my kindness and just run over me with their demands but yet and still I am being labeled as "Unprofessional". This whole experience has taught me a valuable lesson. There are some people no matter what you do for them it's never enough. I take what I do very seriously and have never had any complaints. I wish them the best and hope that whoever works with them in the future has a better experience.
