Richy built a high quality wood fence around our backyard (approx 600 ft). He started working on it just a few days after he gave us our free quote. It took about 1 week to complete it. He has a high standard for quality and it shows in his workmanship. He's also a super nice guy that was easy to work with. I've already recommended him to others.

Contacted Dutch through Thumbtack to repair rotted wood at base of two sets of exterior doors; french and single pedestrian. His response to my Thumbtack inquiry was prompt...we set a time for him to provide an estimate...and a day to make repairs. Dutch is courteous and professional. He arrived on time with the appropriate tools and materials to complete the job as agreed upon. He cleaned the work site thoroughly and the doors look as good as new...better in fact as some of the material used is resistant to rot. I will definitely use Dutch's services again and can recommend his carpentry work to you.

Mr. Bowers was everything you want in a contractor. I needed a fence replaced in a timely manner. He was extremely polite, prompt with his estimate, quick to do the work and his workmanship was second to none. On top of that, his price was extremely fair. I'm sorry Thumbtack, but I no longer need your system for certain jobs because Mr Bowers is now "my guy" to call to get certain things done.

I had the wood replaced on my deck plus the deck stairs rebuilt. The estimate was very reasonable and his men did a great job! I had full confidence that he was a subject matter expert on decking. I have already asked his advice on future jobs for our house.

Mark came to repair some rotten wood I had on doors and windows...he did such a GREAT job..that I had him do all of the windows. He noticed I had paint peeling on our front porch steps that had been done incorrectly the first time and had been repaired to no avail. He did a 7 step process on them and they look wonderful and have withstood the rain and bad weather. I will be calling Mark for any home repairs that I have in the future. He sent me pictures to show me the damaged area and kept me up to date of where he was in the process.

Mike and his crew were wonderful! He was professional and extremely responsive providing an estimate. MVM then completed our exterior painting, door installation and fence sealing for a reasonable price and excellent workmanship. Our house looks new again! He even made a few repairs to our garage doors and replaced spotlights for us. Our neighbors have even contacted us to get MVM’s contact information as they were impressed with the quality of their work! We will definitely use Mike and his crew again for our interior painting needs on the future.

Palmetto Painting and Home Improvement was the best choice we made when hiring contractors to help us sell our home. Originally hired for painting the interior walls, they were rehired for additional work, both inside and outside our home: trim, power wash and stain for our deck, power wash and paint for our front porch, and a small repair to some rotted wood trim. The workers were professional and worked around our small children's naptimes. Stan was great about checking in with us to make sure his employees were providing high-quality work and had a good system set up to make sure we were happy with each project as it was finished. The final walk-through was a breeze and with the work warrantied for 3 years, I believe the new owners will be just as pleased with the work Palmetto provided.

Very satisfied with his work. Not only he did an excellent work with the kitchen backslash tile installation, but he also fixed/repaired a couple of other things (oven light, wood floor repair, etc.) . Very easy to communicate with. It didn't take him long to finish, and he was fast and flexible. I strongly recommend him.

Ben stained a huge fence project for me. I could have had it done much cheaper but there is no way the quality would have been the same. He has a high level of attention to detail and does exactly what he says he'll do. He was always on time, cleaned up after himself, and was respectful. He also communicates better than any contractor I've ever worked with. He truly fits the saying...'you get what you pay for.'

Just simply a class act from beginning to end. Michael and his employees were absolutely everything I could have asked for in a contractor, and the work that was done was top-notch. I had a list of tasks I needed done in my kitchen: a new dishwasher and garbage disposal installed, a stove top removed, a gas line installed, cabinets removed, new gas stove installed, a large section of wood floor repaired, and foyer with 20 ft. ceilings that needed repaired, retaped and painted. I was having a difficult time finding one contractor who was willing to tackle such a wide variety of tasks for a competitive price, and then through Thumbtack, I found Michael Jimenez, who gave me a great quote, was able to do the job in under a week, and the end result was just outstanding. Michael and his crew were punctual, polite, and efficient. Proper care was taken to protect my belongings and everything was returned to its original location upon completion. We have three dogs, which added to the confusion, but Michael and his staff were super good-natured about the pets, were careful not to leave gates or doors open, and worked around 3 very curious and nosy dogs without any issues. The completed project is perfect, my kitchen is exactly as I imagined it, and all thanks to M & M Coating. I encourage you to consider Michael and his team for any home improvement projects you've been considering, you will be glad you did. For an honest, experienced, competitively priced, efficient and professional contractor, look no further than Michael Jimenez and M & M Coating.

Creative in his way to approach projects. Saved me close to $1,000 to repair a fence. Other contractors said it needed to be pulled down but Cody found a way to save it...and the environment by not sending it to the dump. My neighbor hired in the same day to do work at her place.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
    • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
    • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
    • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

    • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
    • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
    • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
    • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
    • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
    • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
    • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
    • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
