As new home owners, we are very impressed with how easy it was to schedule a free quote and our tree cutting service. They worked with our schedule and worked to make sure it was a good price for us. We have much more to do and plan to use this company again. I would recommend them to anyone! Thanks for taking good care of our lawn.

Great job cutting the tree down and removing it for a wonderful price. Beat all the other quotes are got. Jared was super nice and friendly Only issue was setting the time/date for removal and pick up. I felt like it was a little unorganized but I will say it is probably because of all of the business they have! Which is a good thing. Just keep that in mind. Would definitely use again

Quick response for estimate. Michael was very professional and gave me a fair estimate for bush trimming and tree trimming. The price of the estimate and invoice was the same. I was very satisfied with the results! Excellent work! I will definitely hire them again! I only wish I had taken a before and after photo!

Within minutes of submitting my inquiry on Thumbtack, Johnny replied. A visit was then made the next day for a quote. After I had a few quotes from others, I selected Downs tree service based on experience, clarity in work, timeliness displayed to date and price. The job date was set and Johnny Downs was there on time, performed what he said, crew was very polite and safety conscious. In summary, I've had a number of contractors perform work and have delays, high quotes, poor quality work, etc... I can say that with Downs, I received the best quality service from the beginning all the way through the job completion. I highly recommend Johnny Downs for any tree work!!! Five star rating is well deserved.

Mitch and his team are very professional, thorough and communicative. Mitch provided a very accurate bid relative to the info I provided. He agreed to come look at the actual job and confirm pricing before scheduling the work. Although complete removal of the tree takes place over several days, Mitch communicated when and how the various steps will happen. Mitch and team removed the bulk of the tree on Friday and cleaned up very well. The driveway looks better than it did when they arrived! At this point the trunk is standing and due to be removed Monday. Stump to be ground within 10 days. So far, I am extremely satisfied and highly recommend TN Tree Preservation.

Derrick was quick to respond, easy to communicate with, and is a great guy. He gave a very fair estimate and did the job promptly and just as he promised. His crew mowed the lawn, cut back hedges, trimmed branches, cleaned out the gutters, and did general cleanup. I'll be using his company any time I need something done.

Needed a tree and shrub removed as well as some trimming of three trees that we wanted to keep in good health. They were very quick to contact me which based upon other companies i asked for quotes from (not thumbtack recommended companies) was not the case. Came out that day for an estimate and were able to complete the work in a reasonable timeframe (~1 week from estimate date). The guys were all friendly and professional and did a great job with our trees. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing work done.

About

We are a small but growing company specializing in tree trimming, topping, and removal with two main focuses, safety and customer satisfaction. We also specialize and take pride in doing high risk jobs that many companies either turn down upon first look or will bid and never return. Most jobs we accomplish with use of our bucket truck but when getting a truck to the tree is not possible we have experienced climbers who's limits are as large as the tree they are working in. For all of your tree service needs call Hensley's and schedule a free appointment at a time and date that works best for you. From all of us at HTS, thank you.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
