Juan was amazing to work with. He took the time to find exactly what I wanted, was very affordable, did a great job installing the granite, protected the floors in the house so he wouldn't damage anything, and most of all is trustworthy. I had another contractor bail on some other jobs at the house and Juan graciously offered to complete the drywall/painting work. He made it look really good! Juan communicates very well, shows up when he says he will, and completes the job with integrity. I will be using him in the future and highly recommend him. Trustworthy contractors are rare to find these days.

Blast & his team were awesome! He performed numerous jobs for me (tile/floor laminate installation, wall repair, painting, etc...) He continuously provided feedback & offered his expert opinion on several projects....which turned out fantastic. He had no problem deviating from what was initially agreed upon just to please his customer. You definitely won't go wrong choosing his services.

The overhead sheetrock repair was going to be a very challenging and messy job, cleaning up after another's demo error. Geovanny was on time for the estimate and for the actual job. Not only did he and his associate totally " tent " the area with plastic ( to contain as much of the white dust as possible), but then at the end of the job they cleaned up the area. Actually after sanding, patching and repainting the ceiling....the kitchen was cleaner than when they began! Geovanny was the only contractor who came to estimate, that actually got onto the counter to tap all around the ceiling to try and research the project. He is a very upbeat and reassuring man, patient with my anxiety and quite proficient at his craft. He was priced very fairly and It is strange.... not only would I recommend him ....since he seems to be able to do many different remodel tasks, I am looking for other projects that he may be able to complete in my condo.

The Microwave oven part of my dual oven unit stopped working. Looking at the price of new units we decided to try to repair the old unit first. Robertappliance responded to my call and arrived to troubleshoot the issue that same afternoon! The technician (Edgar) was excellent, he gave us a courtesy call when he was headed to our house, arrived on time, and quickly got to work. The unit needing repair was 30 years old so parts may have been an issue but Edgar had several parts sources and was able to locate the part. Edgar made an appointment to return the next day to complete the repair. The next day Edgar installed the new part, however other parts in the power train then needed replacement as well, again no problem for Edgar, he located the parts, found them at discounted prices, and returned the 3rd day as scheduled. In addition to his replacement parts, Edgar also found a problem with the unit motherboard and was able to fix those as well. His attention to detail, resources for parts, and overall knowledge contributed nicely to a good experience. I would highly recommend Robertappliance and especially Edgar.

I had to have both my water heaters replaced in the attic of a 2 story home. Ibrahim Flores responded first and asked when I needed this done.....my response was “now...LOL.” Well little did I know he did get on it right then! He was in and out that day....I was impressed and the quote was extremely reasonable. I have his number already saved in my phone and I told a friend of mine that needs some sheet rock repair done, gave her his number. Thank you Ibrahim, I got to take a long HOT shower this morning.

Isaac is very professional, prompt, proficient and well priced. He responded to my email request quickly and came by the same day to provide a quote within the time frame we agreed upon. Since it was a small repair (drywall repair and texture in our utility room at the house) he was able to do the repair same day. He even cleaned up nicely after the repair. The completed job is exactly what we were looking for. I would hire Isaac again and I recommend him to others.

I have had so much trouble trying to get someone to take on my job. Because of some water damage, I was in need of a new a/c access door and repair to the surrounding ceiling. Eduaro responded to my request almost immediately, and scheduled a time to come take a look that same day. He took some measurements, told me his plans, and gave me a quote including materials within the hour. He arrived the next day ready to work. He was fast, efficient, professional, and polite and did a high quality job for a reasonable price. I absolutely recommend!

I was a little skeptical about hiring M&w construction because it isn’t only plumbing but the man knows his stuff, he charged a fair price and even went and brought a new toilet from the nearest Home Depot at no extra delivery cost. He came the same day I requested the job and got it done.

I hired WCR for carpet cleaning and repair of a rental property we held. The carpet was in very bad shape, which included rips, tears, and stains from a prior pet of a tenant. The carpet repair (patches) turned out well, and the carpet cleaning and deodorizing came out as well as one come expect (based on the circumstances). I would not have any reservations in using WCR's services in the future.

I really like PES and would recommend them to anyone who need a roof repair or replacement. As a matter of fact, while working on my roof, my uncle and my neighbor saw and like what PES done to my roof so they asked PES to give them an estimate as well. One of my biggest pet peeves was unresponsive contractors but Javier with PES was very responsive. He will go out of his way to work with your schedule and return your missed phone calls promptly. PES fees were very reasonable, respectful and friendly crew, and did a good job of cleaning up after. Highly recommended.

Dave has done several jobs in and around our house since out garage was flooded in the Memorial Day flood in Houston. He first build a very sturdy and functional loft above our double-car garage door with removable ladder. He also replaced the damaged wallboard and trim, door locks, and even trimmed out a new garbage drawer in our kitchen that keeps beloved Bailey at bay with our trash! Recently, Dave cut-out our marble tiles in our jacuzzi tub in master bath and replaced damaged faucet mounts and leak at the in-take valve. Replaced the tiles before my wife even knew we there! Overall Dave is not only extremely versatile but his rates are very fair and he always shows up when says - Never any excuses and always a great results. Dave Broeckelmann

We had some laminate flooring installed by a couple people who did a horrible job. I called the Barras brothers and they came to evaluate the floors the same day. They then came out and repaired the floors to perfection and with a great price. I would recommend them to anyone and plan for them to help with other projects.

Julian did an awesome job! He drove all the way to Humble from Missouri City and charged and was beyond reasonably priced! We even asked him to do some other little things around our home and he did them even though we hadn't discussed them. He took the time to show my husband how to float and tape drywall. He's a super cool dude and we are so thankful for his help.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
