Arrived on time. The installation went quickly. Did a good job except he didn't put in the lights. Left it open for me to do later. Maybe that's the standard in the garage door industry, but if I'm doing a job, I'm going to complete it.

Juan has been doing work for us for several weeks. He is multi-talented and resourceful. He has done handyman-type jobs for us such as hanging curtain rods in the house. He has planted our gardens after meticulously preparing them. He thinks ahead and suggests better ways to get things done. He has done painting on our house. Our biggest project to date has been building wooden screens for the windows on our house in a historic district. You can't buy wooden screens anymore, and you can't put up aluminum screens in our neighborhood. He has done a super job of building the screens from A to Z. We have other projects that he will be doing, including relocating and installing some windows on our house. I highly recommend Juan for his abilities and careful work, and common sense.

This company was very efficient and helped us through the process of insurance claims. They were on time and roofed our house, installed attic fans, and cleaned up after they were finished each day they worked on our house. Very pleasant experience and would recommend this company to my family and friends. They are very customer oriented. Great group of guys!

Rick (Owner and Sales) and Allan (Installer) are top notch. They provided a fair quote (not the cheapest nor the most expensive), sold and installed an excellent product (door), followed up to make sure it was working properly, was available to come by and touch it up if necessary. I would highly, highly recommend Rockwall Trim. Wish other contractors (roof, windows, etc) was as good as them.

Billy’s Services took on the job of replacing all of the water lines leading from the city meter to and throughout my house. As part of that job, his men also replaced the bathroom floor and all of the bathroom fixtures. Additionally, the drain from the kitchen sink was rerouted to allow the water to flow more directly to the sewer line. Because my hot water heater is powered by natural gas, the tank had to be replaced in order to comply with my city’s building code. Once everything was in place, the bathroom floor and walls around the bathtub were tiled and the rest of the walls painted. All of this work was scheduled for completion within a two-week period. Heavy rains, however, caused the job to last a few days longer. Overall I am extremely pleased with the work done by Billy Blankenship. His workers were very friendly, courteous, and helpful. I was given a projected cost before the work ever commenced and the job did not exceed that amount. In my opinion, Billy Blankenship is very honest and is more than willing to work with his potential customers to ensure their complete satisfaction. I would definitely recommend his service to anyone whose home is in need of plumbing and/or remodeling. The only thing I could suggest as an improvement to his company might be better communication with and among those who work for him.

I would recommend Rockimg J Construction for any service they provide. I used them to complete the work that my insurance company said needed to be done. Roof, gutters, windows and fence work. They were on time and did exactly what they said they would and did it for what the insurance company paid.

What took Lowe's' window installation crew 4 months to fail to complete, Gonzalez Custom Remodeling did the job in 3 hours, with better professionalism and craftsmanship. From start to finish, Amy and Oscar and their crew were a blessing to deal with. They were quick to respond to any questions or comments via email or texts leading up to and after the job. I have already discussed future plans with Oscar and look forward to when that time comes. I would recommend checking Gonzalez Custom Remodeling before anyone else.

From the beginning to end this company was fantastic. Shannon was very helpful and quick to respond to any questions or concerns my wife or I may have had. Ray was the window installer and his team was very courteous and professional. We have dogs and Ray would make sure that they were in a spot that they couldn’t get out of the house or yard by accident. I would highly recommend RDS! They didn’t push us to get the higher priced windows but was more necessary and efficient for our home.

I have never met a business that had customer service like Acme Glass. They are amazing. They made a small error in my window order, and immediately made everything right. They are easy to work with, communicate professionally, and are easy to set up an appointment with. They even called 30 minutes before arriving to give me a heads up. Great company to do business with, especially knowing that if anything goes wrong, they will always be there and will take care of it. Hard to find incredible customer service like this nowadays.

Superior Windows was great to work with. The windows they provided are both beautiful and great quality. Before replacing the windows in our front room, that the builder originally put in when our house was built, stayed hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Now that Superior Windows has replaced them, the room stays the same temperature as the rest of the house. Superior Windows did a great job and we will definitely be using them to replace our dining room windows as well.

Green Home Solutions just finished installing my windows and i'm extremely happy with their work. I put out request for quotes to replace all the windows in my house (39 windows). Four different installers scheduled appointment with me to check it out in order to be able to give me an accurate estimate. Out of the four, Green Home Solutions stood out of the pack. George from green Home Solutions came prepared. His presentation was flawless and he was honest and upfront with me regarding my project. It took George and his team three days to finish my project. They were very nice and extremely professional. They cleaned up every night and haul the trash away. I love my new 7200 series double hung windows. I'm very happy that i chose Green Home Solutions for my project. If you are in the market for windows, Green Home Solutions is who you need.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
