She worked efficiently and made packing seem less daunting! Had a positive attitude, and even let our puppy "help" her.

Shawna took great care of my two spoiled rotten cat-babies. I have one cat who is very shy and terrified of strangers. Usually when we go out of town, she starts refusing to eat and loses weight. Not this time! I came home to a healthy and happy cat. I recommend and will use Shawna again.

Tammi is amazing with my dogs and cat! I have a 15yo Persian who can be a challenge but Tammi was able to give him a great cut with very little stress on him. The dogs loved her! I will definitely continue to use Tammi for my fur babies going forward!

Tonya was very friendly and experienced. She gave my cat a lion cut and was very gentle and concerned for my cat's comfort. The service was quick but very well done. I loved having her come to my home because it was convenient and a lot less stress for my cat.

Butch came out and worked with my husband Erik, a self proclaimed cat-person, on training our new dog, Darty. Erik went from nervous to confident in one afternoon, and Darty is making leaps and bounds, obediance-wise. Butch has been very straightforward and generous with us- we are so glad we found him!

We rescued a 1 1/2 year old terrier mix. We had no idea what she had been through. Lynette got in touch with me just minutes after I had signed up. We had beginner training for 5 weeks. Simple commands. Lynette did an excellent job! My husband and I needed training just as much as our Stella did and she handled us beautifully too. We will continue to do some group training with her to socialize Stella. We highly recommend Lynette to dog owners with any needs!

Quit looking for a Pet sitter, you just found the right one for you & your pet Absolutely phenomenal! Tami is a completely different game changer when it com s down to "pet sitting" . You can feel the love radiate from your pet with Tami's presence. As most of us pet owners know... that speaks volumes , especially with cats. It gets better.... This is how AMAZING Tami is.... This is how the story goes... 👊🏻 I had read Tami's reviews and drove over to meet her last year.... lovely lovely person. Tami is very warm and somebody "I knew" I could trust with my pet.... Shortly after I was stuck in a foreign country and found out "my pet sitter" was refusing to give my cat his daily insulin injections. CAN YOU IMAGINE!!! I wanted to jump on the next airplane. ✈️ Instead I did the smartest thing .... I text Tami, explaining the situation that evening, Within 20 minutes Tami had picked up my Cat , she took his insulin & insulin injections , his prescription food , Tami took everything she felt was important to mittens. It was almost like Tami flew in like an eagle 🦅 and took control of a situation that could easily have become a pet owners worst nightmare ... Tami understands the importance of insulin injections, she becomes mom instantly , Tami has no problem calling the vet to confirm Medicine requirements / insulin injection requirement. Special diet needs , etc . to your pet Tami goes as far as familiarizing herself with your pets quirks, I received daily pictures of mittens making himself at home 🏡 Talk about keeping my soul 😊.. seeing pictures of mittens , happy. If you are a Pet Lover ... this is the sitter you are looking for ... seriously My cat mittens is an 8 year old white polydactyl , he is on daily insulin injections , he is on a special diet and Tami saved both my cat & I from a very terrible distressful situation that could of been deadly to my cat. I Highly recommend Tami Kind regards , Mary Wolf

After being turned away from Petsmart because my cat was "vicious" I turned Thumbtack to find someone that could handle a hiss. Vickie and her daughter are amazing. She was able to get the mats out of our new cats fur while cutting very little hair off. Sophie was bathed, nails clipped, and mats out of fur. I was kind of hesitant to go all the way to The Colony from Plano because of the distance and construction. The price was amazing as was the service. I will definitely use Aristocats2 again!!!

Gail is amazing. We have a difficult cat, who often does not take well to people and is very demanding, and additionally live in downtown Dallas, in a difficult to navigate sky rise apartment. Our cat was very calm with Gail, and she really made an effort to communicate with us and spend time with our cat. She is very down to earth and eased our weariness while on vacation -( which is very difficult since we are so obsessed with our cat) . She stayed overnight and even washed our bedding and tidied up our place. She is great and perhaps one of the only people I would genuinely recommend to other pet owners :)

Adreia is terrific. She's worked with my own pets (both dogs are LARGE and have a tendency to be aggressive, and the cat is a bad cat) and she handled them beautifully. Both the dogs got their nails trimmed and she even bathed the terrible cat! She also works at an emergency vet, so I'm very comfortable leaving my pets (almost monthly due to work travel) with her, because if something is wrong with them, she will catch it and know what to do!

Absolutely Awesome! I wish I could give her 10 stars. I had previously been taking my cat to a groomers with an early 8am appointment and would spend the day worrying about him because they would keep him for 6 hours or longer. Jessica was not only done in about an hour, but it's the best he ever looked. She completed the hair cut whereas the other place had to give up because Loki was agitated. Jessica shared that Loki displayed little to no signs of agitation. Not having to travel in a car and being in a place around dogs (which Loki is not used to) really decreased his stress level. Jessica also used a scent-free shampoo which has reduced hissing from my other cat upon Loki's return to our household. I also appreciated that she texted me when she was on her way with an ETA. I did not spend the day sitting around the house waiting. It's very difficult to find someone to groom a cat. Not only did I find someone, I think I found the best!

We were worried to leave our pet cat Row Row alone at home while we visited our families over the holidays. Row Row is a senior cat who does have some health issues. Nicoles’ professionalism, flexibility, and experience put our worries to rest. We’ll consider her first the next time we leave town.

Martha has been a great pet sitter. She works around the tightly-regulated feeding schedule for our cat and shows our kitty lots of care. She sends us a text message every day with a picture so we can see how our cat is doing. We trust her with our senior cat completely and recommend her highly.

Karen is professional, courteous and is a great pet/house sitter. My two dogs and two cats were well taken care of while I was on my trip. She charges by each 24 hour period, and stayed at my house the whole time I was gone. It was great because she cleaned up my backyard after the dogs, cleaned litter boxes and took the dogs for walks. My neighbor even verified many times a day. That made me happy. She watered my plants, hosed my patio, picked up my mail, newspapers and packages. She is trustworthy and will stay at your house bringing her own food and linens placed over yours. My house was sparkling clean when I got home and my pets were relaxed too. That gave me peace of mind. I plan to hire Karen Cares again when I need to travel. I'm so glad I found her on here. Nice person and she did what she said she would do.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do cats have to get groomed?

It’s not crazy to have your cat groomed. Grooming will keep your cat’s fur soft and silky as well as give you early warning about any health concerns. Regular grooming can also help reduce the volume of hair your cat may be shedding and keep your longhair kitty cool if you live in a warm climate. Professionals competently groom your cat and are trained to manage them if they resist being groomed, while you may get scratched doing the same task. The national average price for cat grooming is $50-$70. Pet grooming prices may vary based on the task. For example, a bath and brush for shorthair cats may be $15, $20 for medium-hair cats, and $25 for a longhair. Cat groomers can also keep your cat’s ears cleaned, trim their nails, and provide haircuts if needed. Average prices for haircuts can vary from $30 to $95 or more, depending on whether the cat is shy or aggressive and whether their coat is in good condition, matted, or otherwise difficult to groom.

Where can you get your cat groomed?

Cat grooming keeps your cat’s fur tangle-free and clean. Most businesses that offer dog grooming or general pet grooming also offer cat grooming; some businesses even specialize solely in cat grooming. Look for a professional who has training grooming cats or belongs to a professional association such as the National Cat Groomers Institute, because cat grooming techniques can be different than for dogs. Cat grooming can encompass a wide range of services. In addition to haircutting, hair detangling and hairstyling, cat groomers can trim cat nails, clean out your cat’s ears, give flea baths, demat, trim facial fur, bathe and even blow-dry your cat. Health safety and etiquette requires your cat to be in good health and have all their vaccinations before using grooming services.

How much should cat grooming cost?

Keeping your cat groomed is an important part of maintaining their good health. The national average cost for cat grooming ranges between $50 and $70, with prices varying based on where you live and the services you request. Your cat’s temperament can also affect grooming prices. Scratching and hissing during a groomer visit can raise rates an average of $5-$10, or more, as hazard pay. Larger cats and long-haired cats that take longer to groom will also usually cost more. Here are some examples of cat grooming average costs:

  • Shave down or lion cut: $35-$60. These cuts preserve the hair around the face and tip of the tail but shave down the entire body. The lion cut is often recommended for extremely matted hair is exceedingly matted, for extreme heat, or for cats who are suffering from hairballs.
  • Ear cleaning and nail trim: $30.
  • Nail trim: $10-$15.
  • Bath and nail trim: $45.
  • Bath and sanitary trim: $55. A sanitary trim clips the hair on a cat’s behind to prevent fecal matting in longhair cats or cats that have mobility issues.
  • Bath, blow-dry, brush out, nail trim and ear cleaning: $40.
  • Full haircut, bath, and nail trim: $45-$95, depending on matting.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
