Suzanne gave me insightful career advice had me leaving the appointment with a plan of where to go and what to do next. She listened to my situation and gave me invaluable advice that I could not have received from a friend or family member. Suzanne is warm, professional, and excellent at helping one develop a career plan while also providing personal advice.

I have worked with and for Eddie Fooshang. Plainly, I enjoyed communicating with and learning from him in both scenarios. Even when I was teaching him about products and companies that were new to him, I learned and benefited from his mentorship and experience. I continue to seek advice from Eddie, as well. His tenure, professionalism and ingenuity inspire me to remember, I can press forward, go higher and will ask, "Is there a better way to work this?" I am excited to know that he will influence others who want to benefit their career paths, self-growth and sales knowledge.

Hope is an excellent life coach and has helped me deal with many issues throughout our time together. She really does love helping people, I feel like she is really invested in my progress. Her joy at my success makes me feel good after the pain of growth. I mostly work with her on general life issues, but one of the many sessions we've done together is Career Clarity. During this session I was finally able to recognize what career path I wanted to take. It took me 35 years to find out what I want to do when I grow up, but at least I made it :) Thank you Hope!

I was feeling frustrated with my job and really needed a change. Southwestern Consulting opportunity came up and I was hesitant, but gave it a shot. Since starting with them only two months ago, my life (not just career) has changed immensely. I look forward to work every day. My sales are up. And Jamie is not just a coach, but my biggest fan. He goes over and beyond to be a resource for me. It was the best decision I made and I can't wait to celebrate my big fat paycheck with him at the end of the year. =)

Lora's "Renewed" sessions came at a time when I needed it the most. Lora 's content was engaging and rich with personal testimonies, encouraging words, and biblical references. She always followed up promptly after each session with a summary, and she made herself available in case we needed to talk or debrief. I was impacted and profoundly encouraged by Lora's teaching during a transition in my journey. I thank God for Lora's ministry, and I highly recommend other women to engage in her ministry.

Vanessa has helped me realise that I have a lot more going for me than I give myself credit for. I didn't believe I had any opportunities in life and I was truly stuck in a rut both emotionally and physically. I struggled to find the time for the coaching sessions and Vanessa was extremely supportive and flexible and helped me make small changes to organise my life in a way that I had control over. In just a few sessions I have established the things I want most to achieve and can better visualise how to get there. Changes have been set in motion and I am already seeing results. My friends are wanting to spend more time with me as I have more energy and more positive experiences to share with them. I highly recommend her services for anyone wanting help progressing career or personal goals (or both)

I have been visiting with Amelia for some time now, and over the years she has always provided me with the most clear and unbiased advice. Her advice has ranged from relationship advice to career advice and has taken me out of my element on every occasion, providing me with fresh perspectives. The times I left our conversations with daunting tasks ahead, were the times I experienced the most personal and spiritual growth. To this day, when faced with challenges, I reflect on my conversations with Amelia and how taking her advice not only took me to the next level in my maturity cycle, but also opened up doors of growth, despite me feeling uncomfortable at first. If you are searching for someone to listen to you and provide humbling questions that help you find the right answers within yourself, then Amelia is the person to see. She is respectful of your opinions, and genuinely is fascinated with problem solving and discovering solutions for growth.

I've worked with Liz for several months, individually and in a group setting. From my perspective helping writers birth their books isn't something she does on the side, it's her true calling. So much so, I find it difficult to imagine she has any energy left to write her own best-selling books. Liz supports her writers by helping them define and refine their mission, information and process. Her energy and focus is powerful.  Her experience and insights are rich. She does her research and constantly uncovers new opportunities, technologies and trends. She's organized, reliable and always prepared. Oh, and she doesn't hold back. One quality that separates her from many book coaches and publishing services available today is that she doesn't claim to have a tried and true formula. (You know the spiel "Just follow these ten steps and you too will have a best selling money-making blockbuster!") Instead she guides each of her clients to find their unique gift to the world. This is not only more fulfilling for the writer but significantly reduces the risk that theirs becomes another "me too" book languishing in the remainder bin. She'll be as involved as you want her to be. If you're serious about your book, I strongly suggest you hire her.

Laura Di Tomasso provided professional, concise, and extremely successful coaching for me while I was undergoing a transition from an old environment to another completely different one. She was able to work with me on my timetable, no matter where she was currently located. Common courtesy was bilateral, which resulted our meetings being efficient and successful. Great listening skills, inquiries, and feedback during our sessions went a long way for me meeting my goals.

Charlotte's wisdom, grace and kindness have helped me move through some of the greatest challenges of my life without the fear, anxiety and doubt that have weighed me down in the past. She's got a way of framing the most seemingly complex, heavy problems in a way that makes them seem like extremely small hurdles to overcome – or, in some cases, to simply walk away from. I can't wait until my next session!

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

              What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

              What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

              • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
              • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
              • Defining your career goals
              • Creating a plan for job searching
              • Improving networking strategies and skills
              • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
              • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
              • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

              Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

              • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
              • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
              • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
              • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
              • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
              • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
              • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.
