From the start Mike was professional courteous and flexible to our needs for the yard. Our whole backyard was a mess. Overgrown, bushes and weeds - not a place we wanted to be. Mike and his crew worked diligently to make sure we had it just the way we needed and within our budget. We went with a more dry climate friendly approach to the yard which included a lot of rock to be hauled in. We had a fence section that also needed to be replaced and Mike was able to help there too. I really appreciated his constant communication. He's easy to get a hold of and will answer your questions when needed and arrives when he says he will. We will be starting on the front yard next and will without question be hiring Mike again. Give Mike a call and you won't be disappointed.

We received bids from several fence companies to have a 40-foot section of 6-foot-high wood privacy fence replaced. We needed the old fence removed and taken away and a new fence built in its place. Best Lil Fence In Texas gave us the lowest bid, and the bid included three horizontal slats (not just two like the old fence had) and the removal of the old fence. My wife and I were both very pleased with the prompt, considerate, and efficient workers and the quality of the wood they used, along with the sturdiness and straightness of the fence. I would highly recommend Best Lil Fence In Texas, and in fact have already recommended them to my next-door neighbor who was very impressed with the fence and the price.

If you need a fence repaired or replaced... don't go to a fence installation contractor. You will pay double the price. I contacted a number of contractors for repair of our boundary fence. Fully half didn't bother responding to my voice mail - I assume the job was too small. Of the four that actually responded, three were fence installation contractors and one was fence repair - Al. I could tell from the quote he sent me, he knew his business. There was no guessing. He quoted in linear feet and per post. When asked, he came out immediately to review the job and confirm the price and started working the next day. We were so pleased with his work quality, work ethic, and knowledge that we expanded (doubled) the work. He was able to do it all in two days. We are planning on having him come back to repair another part of the fence soon. Don't waste your time... hire Al for your fence repairs and replacements. He loves what he does, it shows, and you will not regret it.

More often than not these days, we get less than we are promised. Not so with Jesus Torres. He did exactly what he promised and more! That young man has the BEST work ethic! My neighbor, retired, watched Jesus' work each day and decided to hire him to do his connecting fence as well! Done in one day! Jesus even added to our fence to dog proof it and did it at no added cost! Hire him, you will not be disappointed!

We hired Jon to replace our wooden 9 year old crumbling fence that had partially blown down from a storm. We got lots of quotes from big fencing companies and no one could come close to the price that Jon offered us. Jon's quote was about $10 cheaper per linear foot than the other companies could offer! Jon and his crew did a beautiful job on the fence. They even had to deal with connecting the fence to a large tree and they did it seamlessly. I am so happy that we had Jon and his crew come out to do our fence. They were able to finish the project in just three days and I hardly knew they were even there. The best part is, that rather than just take the old wood to the dump, they offered it to a few couples who needed the wood repair their fences/make crafts which is super environmentally friendly! I will definitely hire them in the future to do other projects around our house.

A job VERY well done. If only we could rate 10 stars. Chris was detailed, quick, and exceeded our expectations. Spoke with five fence folks and he by far was the fairest priced and left us feeling most comfortable with doing the job. While on site he & his team were courteous and hard working. Highly highly highly recommended.

He gave me very reasonable quote out of 10 other quotes i received. He really came through fine and kept informing me and always returned on time when he said he would come back to finish the job due to bad weather. Though i hired him for my fence my neighbors also saw how well he power washed my fence (2 yr old never stained fence he washed so clean it looked new) they met him and got quotes and hired him as well. More than 7 other home owners in our community already hired him for the fence painting job after they saw the work he did at place. Over all very happy and going to hire him for more indoor house work (sheet rock and carpentry) as he seem to do more than paint.

March 2016-Cannot say enough good things about Ramos services. He is listed under landscaping but he contacted me through Thumbtack when I was looking to replace a fence that had blown down. About 5 months ago I had tried to get an estimate for my fence as it started to sag, but the fencing companies would either, not come out and look at it, would come out but never sent me a quote or just never answered my calls or emails. So now it is March 2016, and after a strong wind storm, the one side of my fence blew down. Sent a search through Thumbtack and Ramos was one of the ones to answer. Let me list why he was such a great choice for doing my fence: 1. I made an appointment for him to come to home at noon to get an estimate. I work 25 minutes from home so I gave myself 45 minutes to drive home to meet him. Well wouldn’t you know they closed all the lanes of north bound I-35 for a funeral!!! So I was 40 minutes late driving to my house. And guess what...He waited for me to get there!!! 2. He looked and measured…and gave me an estimate on the spot. This was a solid quote…there was to be no changes to this at any time. He was hundreds of dollars cheaper that the cheapest estimate I had received months before and at this time. 3. He showed up the day and time he promised and got the fence up in one day. He did come back the next day to install the rest of the screws and to do my gate (This is a big deal because my neighbors have a dog that hates me, so I was glad to have the fence up in one day). 4. I asked to have the gate opener to be installed only visible from the back yard. (Two other fence people argued with me about this, said they know better or I won’t like etc.). No arguments, said he would do it for me. I figured I would always have to go outside the backyard door to open the gate, but Ramos installed it in such a way, I can reach over the gate to open it and no one else would even know the latch is there. I feel so much safer at night alone because of this! (I bought the latch myself ) 5. I had bought a money order to pay for both the right side of the fence and was having him do the left side also. He asked if he could come back to do the left side in a few days because the previous week’s rain had put him behind on another job. The money order was for the whole job so I gave it to him that day 6. Sure enough, Ramos again came back on the day he promised and finished the left side of the fence. 7. Very nice and friendly and above all trustworthy. Let’s you know when he’s coming and what and when he will be doing! Highly recommend! Great experience and now I have a great looking fences and a new gate!

Marco and his guys do great work. I hired them to build a fence & refurbish an entire deck. The work was done on budget & on time. Since that first job, I've had them back for a plumbing issue that required sheet rock replacement. Their most recent project for us was a complete redesign and landscaping of our entire back yard. We are very pleased with the results. Marco & his crew are great!

Triple V Fence and Deck was wonderful. They walked me through each step of the way and were incredibly transparent about the entire process. Not only were they quick and reliable, they built a beautiful quality fence. My fence is, by far, the best looking fence around the neighborhood. I would highly recommend their services.

We used Crafted to replace our front lawn and fence in order to get our house ready to go on the market. We had a short time frame and they worked tirelessly to meet our open house deadline. I have no doubt the results contributed to a full price offer in days. We plan to hire Crafted to design and implement a full landscape at our new home. Couldn't be happier! Thanks!

Obviously a well-oiled business. The team knew exactly what was going to happen when, got the work done as committed, cleaned up after themselves quite nicely (not all fence businesses do that...). The fence is beautiful, and the new cedar pickets smell just marvelous, too :-). Thanks to Travis for the team's work!

Jose did great work - arrived on time both times he came to the house, and make quick work of the repair - removing a gate and replacing it with standard fencing. Very happy with the workmanship and price, will contact Jose again in the future as new needs arise.

I hired Chris to tear down an old chain length fence and replace it with an 8-foot cedar fence. He was VERY professional. He communicated well, did a great job and met my expectations. He sent me an estimated budget for the project via email the day before the project and showed up the next day with supplies to get started. His pricing was fair and he worked really fast. I'm always hesitant to pay by the hour because it's really easy for someone to take their time and work slow. But Chris was very well prepared and wasted no time getting started. He completed my project in just under 5 hours. Other fence companies quoted me almost double. I was very pleased.

We hired Total Fence to install a backyard fence at our home. Abel and Rich were very quick when it came to reaching out and scheduling an estimate. They came out and showed me many different options for what we needed and let us know which they would prefer as someone who installs fences so they take more of a consultant type approach to your fence. The turn around and install was what shocked me the most. We went from accepting the estimate to installing the fence within a week. The quality of work by Total Fence is above and beyond the fences I have seen in my neighborhood. I can say I have the best looking fence and it is all because of Total Fence.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
