Mike and his crew were outstanding! Mike and team were very professional, creative, and were more than willing to accommodate feedback during the job. Communication was stellar and as promised the job was complete in the time he estimated. He turned our front yard into the showpiece lawn of our neighborhood and brought the contemporary modern vision to life. As you can see from the one before picture the front yard needed lots of help. The final result was a beautiful transformed yard that makes us happy and proud when we get home. I highly recommend Mike and his team!

We were having a decorative arch removed from a wall while having our house painted. The painters mostly demo'd the arch, but realized it was a little beyond their skill set to finish the job. Joel and his assistant arrived the next day and worked quickly and with great expertise. When they were done, you would have never known there was an arch there, except that it wasn't painted. The texture was a near perfect match.

I have used several painters and painting companies over the past 25 years. The quality of work with Dusty was as good and probably better than any of my past experiences. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for great quality work. Definite attention to detail. My wife and I plan on having her come back for future projects inside & out. Solid “5” Star experience. The Lincoln’s Georgetown Tx.

I met with several painting companies to paint a two-story high living room with a balcony, angled ceilings and rounded edges and corners with arches, etc. The builder of the home had toasted almond (beige-yellow) textured walls. Needless to say, there were so many challenges with the walls because of all of its differences. It took me two years to interview these companies and to consider the colors. I interviewed Tex Painting and Dan came out to consult with me. The consultation was free. Unlike the other consultations, Dan immediately saw all of the potential in my living room space. I still had a very unrealized view of colors and was nervous about the entire project. I told Dan that I was thinking of red accent walls and a light or true gray for the walls and the ceilings painted back to white from the toasted almond. Dan came in with ease and immediately came up with the idea of 3 red accent walls that happened to be the inset walls of the space and the rest gray. Two years of thinking about painting these walls ended with Dan's vision and recommendations in minutes. Dan showed up on the day of painting and consulted with me and made sure of the plan and colors, collected the paint samples and introduced me to his painters. The painters were quiet, worked fast, respectable and did an amazing job! Because of Tex Painting my living room space was transformed in to something that is so exciting. The space now provides warmth, tranquility and peace. I'm now having Tex Painting paint my kitchen. Thanks guys!

It’s was an absolute pleasure working w/ Matt. Matt painted 4 rooms and 2.5 bathrooms us. He is a hard worker; taped everything off, covered our wood floors, made straight lines, no mess left behind... he does phenomenal work. I cant express enough how pleased we are with the painting. If you are needing a painter, Matt is your man!

Derek and his assistant (Amando, I hope I spelled that right!) were completely incredible and I would hire them again in a heartbeat! Derek came right away and gave me a fair and reasonable estimate for fixing some rotting wood on the exterior of our house and then painting the entire thing! My husband and I struggled to pick a color and Derek texted with me the entire time and gave me suggestions and feedback. He recommended that we paint the brick which I hadn't even considered and it looks AMAZING! All of the rotting wood, which resulted from the previous owners neglect was completely taken care of by him. I told him originally that he could just quick fix it with putty and he said no way we are doing this the right way! And I'm so glad because the rot went further back than expected. He also did an incredible job cleaning and prepping the exterior before painting--the outside of our house was disgusting with algae and mold growing and he spent a long time scrubbing it before doing anything else. We were very pleased and thankful for how meticulous he was and how much he cared about everything being done the way we liked it. Even at the end, after my husband did a walk around, we realized that the back door would look better painted like the trim, so Derek said he'd come back and do that for us. We are very pleased with the results and with the experience we had with Austin Home Solutions! I have already recommended them to a friend!

Fina and her crew were awesome. Call them and you will not be disappointed. We needed to paint our newly purchased house after closing and within 5 days before we moved in. After calling a few services we realized every painter in Austin is busy and/or quotes an exorbitant price to deter new business. Fina responded promptly and worked with me as my needs evolved from painting a few rooms to more than 4K sq ft of walls and ceiling. She was also willing to work within my budget. FIna also has great design insights and helped us with some remodeling ideas that we ended up incorporating. All this for free when she came to take a look at our house for a quote. We agreed at 10pm and the next morning her crew was at my place ready to get started. They spent more than 5 hours just setting up tarps, plastic and painters tape on to prevent any mishaps (even in an empty house) and that gives you a sense of the quality of work they do. Excellent five star service and will use again

Sonny just completed a siding job for me. Hardieplank and trim. Sonny always responded to my text messages and showed up to the job on time. We were hit with a big rainstorm and he worked when he could, and stuck with the job even though it wasn't the most convenient (or dry) work. He provided a very fair quote and was honest about everything. The only reason it is 4 instead of 5 stars is that the cleanup wasn't excellent (scraps, nails, plastic), and there are a few places I'll still have to caulk myself. The finishing touches weren't the finest. Also we had some communication issues and I think that having written quotes would have improved the experience with what I expected and what he provided. That being said he is honest, hardworking, and a good person to work with. I recommend Sonny.

Beau did a fabulous job painting my dining room and living room- I would absolutely use his services again as well as refer him to my friends and family. My landlord said that I could paint my interior only if I used a professional painter, so naturally I chose Beau after seeing his beautiful work in my friends house. I've received numerous compliments on his exquisite work in my house, including from my landlord!

I'm sorely disappointed in the lack of professionalism in this work. On the phone, Joseph said that there would be a drop cloth to cover the sidewalk from drops, walls would be taped, that they always do a great job. I mistakenly took his quick phone contact as the real deal and scheduled without getting any other quotes. Upon arrival, there was no drop cloth, no tape to tape the side wall. He said he was initially going to use a paint roller to apply the stain, but now that it requires hand painting it will take a little longer. I put out a sheet for the guy to start working, and within minutes there were some splatters proving it was necessary. So many things were unsatisfactorily done. As you can see from the pictures, the poor attention to detail, lack of full staining on upper boards, splatters on the jam, etc. Moreover, I just built a bench, and the guy stepped on the bench with his boots leaving boot marks that I had to sand out and restain this afternoon. I also had to get out my ladder and stain areas that were missed on the lower areas. I got out the touch up paint for the side wall since they were going to try to use paint thinner on my exterior walls, so I stopped that before it could happen. A paint can was knocked over accidentally into my planter that now I had to clean out this afternoon as well. There's nothing I hate more than hiring someone to do work that requires me to do more work afterward. Despite my feedback throughout the process, they said that wood would always look different and that they indeed stained it. However, when I go back over with my cloth with stain and fix the spots, it's clear that they just wanted a quick job--which I was hoping for too. For as simple and straight forward as climbing a ladder and putting stain on a brush and being careful of were that stain went, It was an excruciatingly frustrating job that I just wanted to be over. Lesson learned about using Thumbtack.

Honestly one of the best painters I've ever worked with. His attention to detail and his professionalism stands out. He has experience in many other areas and I found myself hiring him not only for my rental work but also my personal home projects. I think by the time I finished working with them I already had several more jobs lined up for them. I've worked with thumbtack for awhile and have to say johnny and his crew have been some of the best. He is now my go to guy for painting and remodeling. Hire this guy you won't be disappointed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
