I ended up selecting Michael and his crew to do landscaping versus fencing for now. Michael was very responsive showed up on time and did exactly what he said he would do and what I think was at a fair price. Is very meticulous with his work. I am now speaking with them about the fencing project now. I would recommend him to anyone

Roy and his crew did a great job on our large fencing project. They used high quality material, and constructed a solid fence that will last a long time. I will use Best lil Fence in Texas for my future fencing needs, and you should, too.

If you need a fence repaired or replaced... don't go to a fence installation contractor. You will pay double the price. I contacted a number of contractors for repair of our boundary fence. Fully half didn't bother responding to my voice mail - I assume the job was too small. Of the four that actually responded, three were fence installation contractors and one was fence repair - Al. I could tell from the quote he sent me, he knew his business. There was no guessing. He quoted in linear feet and per post. When asked, he came out immediately to review the job and confirm the price and started working the next day. We were so pleased with his work quality, work ethic, and knowledge that we expanded (doubled) the work. He was able to do it all in two days. We are planning on having him come back to repair another part of the fence soon. Don't waste your time... hire Al for your fence repairs and replacements. He loves what he does, it shows, and you will not regret it.

I could not say more about how happy I am with the work that AJ All Fences did for me and my family. The costs was significantly less than other competitors and yet the quality of work and materials was the same. If I were to every need fencing work done again AJ All Fences would be the first people I'd call.

Needed sheet vinyl installed in the kitchen/dining room of our rental. A local big box store wouldn't do the job because the sub floor (which had just been repaired) wasn't up to their standards. Angel did it for way cheaper than that other place wanted. He is a perfectionist and does the job right. He was in contact with me as the job was progressing and sent pictures after he was done. He also repaired a fence and gate for us on the same property. He's honest and a hard worker and does the job right. Will use him in the future.

We hired Jon to replace our wooden 9 year old crumbling fence that had partially blown down from a storm. We got lots of quotes from big fencing companies and no one could come close to the price that Jon offered us. Jon's quote was about $10 cheaper per linear foot than the other companies could offer! Jon and his crew did a beautiful job on the fence. They even had to deal with connecting the fence to a large tree and they did it seamlessly. I am so happy that we had Jon and his crew come out to do our fence. They were able to finish the project in just three days and I hardly knew they were even there. The best part is, that rather than just take the old wood to the dump, they offered it to a few couples who needed the wood repair their fences/make crafts which is super environmentally friendly! I will definitely hire them in the future to do other projects around our house.

Michael Blake is very pleasant to work with. I have just short of two acres to fence in so it was a significant project. The outcome of my privacy fence was to my satisfaction and completed within the time frame Michael estimated with only one day delay due to rain. I now have a beautiful fence and can enjoy my pool in privacy. I'm very happy.

Steven went above and beyond the call of duty to fix our fence. It was attached to our neighbor's fence, which was sliding down the hillside, pulling ours down with it. Steven put in a new post, cut our fence away from our neighbor's, and propped up our neighbor's fence, so that it would not slide any further. He also put in long screws into some boards that were blown loose by the wind. He did all this for less than the competition. Steven is a consummate professional, who does great work at a modest price. You will not be disappointed if you hire him. We've already got a couple more jobs lined up for him around the house.

I would like to share that I thought my fence built in 2006 was pretty much ready to be tossed, but I called Bud Goff (he does fences/decks/home repair), and he did an amazing job of adding MANY, MANY more years of life to my fence. He powerwashed it and my driveway (which turned out to be super dirty), he repaired broken posts, broken pickets, added a middle third rail for support and stained/sealed it. All of this for a fraction of the cost of a new fence. Really fair prices. He even caulked up some open seams on the side of my house to be nice. He came out the day after I called him, gave me a quote and finished the project quickly. He arrived early each day of the project. His phone number is 512-939-1182, in case you need it.

Replaced chain link fence hinge in South Austin. Took about an hour including picking up the parts. Kirk came by the same afternoon as my request. Exhibited a lot of attention to detail including checking other fence gates. Very professional. Highly recommended.

Ray and Ray followed directions carefully, communicated clearly, showed up on time every time, and did excellent work. They persisted thru unexpected challenges for a fair price. We've used a handful of fence contractors before. But we plan to go back to Knott's Fencing next time.

I had contact with several other fence contractors on phone before I found Ruben. I was unimpressed with the others' willingness to come out, or expectations for a travel fee just to do the estimate, or lack of response. So I was especially thankful when Ruben was quick to respond, and eager to help. He and his wife came out immediately, provided a fair estimate, and was willing to start work right away. The job was done within the week, and he was happy to accommodate special requests. He even suggested some extra decorative flourishes for the gates. The fence looks great, functions beautifully, and no doubt we will use them for additional work in future. Both he and his wife (and son, who I met one of the work days) were super nice, courteous, hard working, and professional. Highly recommend.

I hired Dallas to build a fence around my property. The fence had several gates and involved digging post holes cementing the posts in the ground, building and installing gates and installing fencing around my whole property. Dallas did an outstanding job in a timely manner.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
