FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It's all about personalization. While working at other tutoring companies, I realized that my students had different ways of learning - some were logical, visual, hands-on or a combination of these. At Concepts Mastery, we first create a student profile that tells us how the student best learns. We then create a lesson plan that is customized to the parent's goals and the student's learning aptitudes- this is what sets us apart. For parents, expect us to hold a good chat with you. We want to know what your goals are. We want to know what sports, activities and extracurriculars excite our students, what aspirations keep them motivated, and we want to know their study habits as well as any concerns that you, the parent, and the student might have. We put your goals on paper and create a plan of action to get there. We have summary reports at the end of every session to keep track of progress and meet benchmarks. You can share these personalized reports with teachers and other educators. Every tutoring session is a step closer to our clients' goals.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an Ivy League degree from Brown University and a Masters from an engineering school in Germany. I started tutoring since I was 16. While in high school, I was also a part time student at university. I tutored my high school colleagues through a program called GEAR-UP, which prepares students for college. While at Brown and beyond I became a Research and Teaching Assistant and continued tutoring students.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started tutoring without even know it. While in high school, my fellow students would come to me with questions about class material in the GEAR-UP lab. After a few months, I had become the de facto tutor of our high school.
