Ken at New Wave Resumes made my dreaded resume update an enjoyable and rewarding experience. I just relocated to Austin and needed a new polished resume to get started here. I contacted four other Resume Services before I found Ken, when we spoke on the phone he shared with me his background and invaluable experience as a recruiter, as well as his vision on what hiring coordinators are looking for in a resume these days. As I finished up graduate school in Spring 2015, I faced a new challenge in securing the right job to apply the skills and knowledge I worked so hard to build. Ken started by helping me establish an appropriate mindset to approach the job market and my individual search. He had me take an in-depth personality assessment to identify my strengths and unique traits that make me competitive in the job market. When we put together a resume I was a bit apprehensive because it looked very different from the template resume I was use to using. In the end, I think this helped me stand out by highlighting my intangible skills that hiring managers are looking for. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
No two clients are alike and everyone has unique needs. I tailor my services to the needs of my client. I charge a flat fee for resumes that is based on how long it will take me to deliver the best product to my clients. Some resumes just need a few adjustments, while others have to be completely rebuilt. I can give you a firm quote on expected costs before I begin to help you with your career plan,
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I am available for in-person meetings for those who are in the greater Austin area, but that is not always feasible for everyone. At a minimum I prefer to talk to my clients to get an understanding of their career aspirations and any special preferences or requirements they may have for their career plans. It is not uncommon at all that the client and I have a running dialogue during the resume construction.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an active, independent corporate recruiter and I constantly ask my corporate clients what they like and do not like in the candidate and resumes they consider. I am a strong believer in giving the hiring manager what he/she wants to see. I have BBA and MBA degrees from an excellent, well-respected school. I also teach marketing at the university level.
