Karen conducted a cooking class for a resident event! She exceeded our expectations and the residents are already asking when the next class will be. Karen is officially my go to person for events like this!

Went to two Katya's cooking classes, loved them both! They were very interesting and educating. Katya is an interesting person with a good sense of humor. I would recommend her classes to anyone who wants to learn more about food and those who want to have a good time learning new cooking skills.

Katie was charming and poised to lead our group of 13 for a cooking class party. She was organized and prepared with all the ingredients measured and at their stations as she coached our supper club through an assortment of inventive dishes. She even brought her own serving platters for a festive presentation. We left with a printout of all the recipes to take home. I would definitely hire Katie again!

We had a wonderful time in our cooking class with Linda. Before we got together, she did an awesome job honing in our goals, which were to learn how to prepare some quick, tasty, and healthy meals as we are both very busy and trying to eat better. The meals she taught us to prepare couldn’t have been more perfect –delicious yet simple and practical for our schedules. In addition to showing us some new and tasty meals, she taught us other various cooking skills and was more than happy to answer all of our questions. It was an excellent experience not only because of what we learned, but because Linda is a lovely, fun person. We highly recommend her classes for your own cooking needs or as a gift for others! (as it was a gift for us)

Chef Daniele was absolutely WONDERFUL! We could not have asked for a better chef or setup. Our group was visiting Austin from out of town for a joint bachelor/bachelorette party and staying at an AirBNB, so we thought it would be nice to stay in for an evening to visit. Chef Daniele was extremely accommodating in creating a menu that included dishes for vegetarian and vegan guests. He sent me the menu days in advance. Since we were unfamiliar with the pots/pans, knives, kitchen tools, and kitchen itself, Chef Daniele brought many of his own tools, which was extremely helpful to us. On the morning of the event, we unfortunately encountered an issue with the gas line. Chef Daniele offered at that point to cook on the grill outside (which was incredible!), even though he had already bought the ingredients for the inside meal. Thankfully, the gas line was fixed and he cooked the following delicious small plates for the group: spinach, garlic and basil fettuccine with wild mushrooms; Red-wine chicken with vegetable mirepoix; Milk-braised pork tenderloin; Sauteed lemon green beans. He even allowed one of our guests (who loves to cook) to assist in cooking! We were also grateful that Chef Daniele was okay with a little partying (maybe too much drinking) and dancing during the evening! :) Chef Daniele's punctuality (on time!); hospitality (accommodating, in tune with the guests likes/dislikes, cleaned up the kitchen for us and even washed some dishes that he did not use-very unnecessary!), personality (kind, calm, and happy!) and cooking (Florence-trained!) were all perfect. As a result, I have recommended him to friends that live in Austin, and I will continue to recommend him to anyone visiting the area for the weekend! Thank you to Chef Daniele for an all around fantastic evening!

Chef Leslie did a cooking class for our girls scout troop. She was awesome! She managed to keep ten 9/10 year olds engaged in her class. The girls had fun making their own meatballs and pasta. The girls really enjoyed eating what they made. Chef Leslie was so patient and taught the girls some neat tricks in the kitchen. It was a great hands-on class. I highly recommend Chef Leslie. She was a pleasure. I hope to book her for an adult cooking class in the near future.

Tricia's service and culinary skill are great. I was looking to get my blood sugar under control and lose weight. She prepared 5 lunch's and dinner's over the course of a couple of months. I'm down ten lbs and my blodd sugar has normalized. The food she prepared me was always first class. Lots of fish chicken dishes with vegetables. I can't say enough for professionalism and the meals were good too. Tricia is willing to work with you on what ever you goals are. Wether it delicious home cook meals or a more strict diet, she does a good job.

This past Sunday my daughter and eleven year old granddaughter took Kareem’s ( insert his last name) cooking class at my daughter’s house. They were going to make a vegetable soup. Kareem displayed all type of chef knifes, how to used them properly and for which type of food they would used for. His demonstrated proper knife usagevarious ways to cut different vegetables. Kareen assisted my daughter & granddaughter in their use of different vegetable cuts with the appropriate knifes. The soup was delicious and Kareen was extremely knowlegable and helpful in assisting my granddaughter with her knife cutting skills. Plans were made for the next cooking class. It was agreed upon to make a pasta with a special tomato sauce. I’m sure anyone who hires Kareen won’t be disappointed with his class.

Julie did a great job catering our wedding. She brought great, attentive staff and made delicious white fish and lamb skewers. She worked really well with our wedding planner. It felt like we had the dream team on our side. I really can't recommend her enough. She was easy to get along with, provided plenty of tasty food, and listened to our feedback. We also had folks at our wedding (including myself) with special diet requirements (vegan, vegetarian, dairy free, and gluten free) and she was able to accommodate them all. I would hire her again in a heartbeat.

Wow! I had the pleasure of enjoying Han's cooking on Saturday night. Truly the most decadent & healthy meal I've ever experienced. The nutrient dense - vegan meal was diverse in color, texture and flavor. Her style is creative and organized. Lucky for me she cooks in Austin on the weekends! Thanks Han.

Amanda is awesome! Whether you're looking for healthy meal prep/delivery or just need someone to cater a dinner with friends at your house -- she can handle it! Amanda prepares all of my meals and delivers them to me weekly, so I always know that I have delicious and healthy meals ready when it is time to eat. I just grab the labeled containers that she leaves in my refrigerator, and I'm ready to go. I have almost no time to prepare food, so this is extremely valuable to me. Amanda discusses my tastes and cravings, and designs a custom meal plan that is delicious and well-balanced. She has opened my eyes to so many healthy alternatives to foods that I love and to all sorts of new things that I never thought I would like. She always answers my questions and is really thoughtful in making sure I enjoy each meal and have something delicious for each day of the week. I can't recommend Amanda enough -- she truly helps me live a healthy lifestyle, and has even taught me how to prepare healthy meals for myself. I also had Amanda cater a dinner with friends, and it was such a great experience. She interacted with everyone and explained what she was doing. It was like a cooking class for all of us. Her gluten-free baked goods are phenomenal, and you definitely have to try her Cashew "Sour Cream" Sauce and vegan enchiladas! Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, paleo, gluten free, raw, etc, Amanda knows her stuff and will work with you to create some of the most delicious (and nutritious) foods you will ever eat.

I love cooking and love taking cooking classes. I have tried many cooking classes from places like Whole Foods and Central Market to culinary school classes for general public to cooking classes from independent chefs. Chef Rachel’s classes are by far my favorite. Her classes are hands-on. Her recipes are practical (ingredients can be found from a normal grocery store and dishes can be made in reasonable amount of time). Her dishes are healthy AND delicious! And everyone gets to taste the dishes from the class at the end of the class. I use more recipes from her classes than any other cooking classes that I have taken in the past! And my kids also LOVE the dishes that I learn from her classes. I look forward to learning more dishes from her classes in the future.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
