We are so excited about the incredible work that the Lone Star team did in our backyard. They built a very large stone patio, cleaned up the backyard - removed trash trees, brush, etc, put down new sod, mulch, planted some trees, installed a new fence. The end result is beautiful! Mike kept me updated and was very accessible. The craftmanship of his crew is outstanding. I highly recommend them for any yard project. The price was great, high value for your dollar and the results exceeded my expectations. Thanks to Mike and your team!

If you need a fence repaired or replaced... don't go to a fence installation contractor. You will pay double the price. I contacted a number of contractors for repair of our boundary fence. Fully half didn't bother responding to my voice mail - I assume the job was too small. Of the four that actually responded, three were fence installation contractors and one was fence repair - Al. I could tell from the quote he sent me, he knew his business. There was no guessing. He quoted in linear feet and per post. When asked, he came out immediately to review the job and confirm the price and started working the next day. We were so pleased with his work quality, work ethic, and knowledge that we expanded (doubled) the work. He was able to do it all in two days. We are planning on having him come back to repair another part of the fence soon. Don't waste your time... hire Al for your fence repairs and replacements. He loves what he does, it shows, and you will not regret it.

Tim repaired two broken cross beams on a 6' high wooden fence as well as installed three openings covered with wire to allow water to flow through during heavy rains. I was very impressed with Tim. He arrived on time, we agreed on a price, he got materials and immediately started to work on the project, finishing in a timely fashion as promised. Tim's workmanship is excellent and he was both flexible and creative in creating the water outlets. I would highly recommend Tim.

He gave me very reasonable quote out of 10 other quotes i received. He really came through fine and kept informing me and always returned on time when he said he would come back to finish the job due to bad weather. Though i hired him for my fence my neighbors also saw how well he power washed my fence (2 yr old never stained fence he washed so clean it looked new) they met him and got quotes and hired him as well. More than 7 other home owners in our community already hired him for the fence painting job after they saw the work he did at place. Over all very happy and going to hire him for more indoor house work (sheet rock and carpentry) as he seem to do more than paint.

Juan and his crew were incredibly fast, responsive, and easy to work with. I requested a quote Wednesday night (needed to refurbish an old fence and add new fencing), and the job was completely finished by Tuesday. Juan was a pleasure to work with.

Had a bull panel fence installed. Everything was handled very professionally and I am pleased with the outcome. There is a few small details that would have liked to go differently, but overall it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend to others.

I'm very satisfied with the the quality of work of our new landscape install by Crafted. The crew that we got to know over the course of our 2 week project was professional, knowledgeable while being friendly and approachable....they took the time to explain what they were doing at different stages of the project every time I stepped on the site. We love our new patio, horizontal boarded fence and landscaping the crew installed. These are our go to guys for our future landscaping needs.

DM Landworks was great to work with on our fence replacement. They discussed options, provided a clear estimate upfront, and promptly answered our questions. They stayed true to the estimate - on time scheduling of the crew, fence materials as noted in the estimate, and no add-ons. Days after job completion, we noticed an issue with the gate closure. DM Landworks repaired it within 48 hours. Excellent working with this company, and we would do so again.

Lance did a 6-foot privacy fence repair for us as well as building a small garden fence around our garden. He was very quick to respond and was able to come out for an estimate very quickly. He offered the estimate on-site and the only change in the cost was one extra 4x4 needed for the garden fence, totally reasonable. He was able to get the job done very quickly and his staff was on-time, friendly, and even very accommodating to our dogs that were in their work space from time to time. Highly recommend Lance for any project!

I hired Chris to tear down an old chain length fence and replace it with an 8-foot cedar fence. He was VERY professional. He communicated well, did a great job and met my expectations. He sent me an estimated budget for the project via email the day before the project and showed up the next day with supplies to get started. His pricing was fair and he worked really fast. I'm always hesitant to pay by the hour because it's really easy for someone to take their time and work slow. But Chris was very well prepared and wasted no time getting started. He completed my project in just under 5 hours. Other fence companies quoted me almost double. I was very pleased.

First: I've never paid for a fence to be installed...always done it myse as I want it done right (my way). I had to bite the bullet due to time constraints and selected Alderete Fence due to price, availability, and owner stated they use high quality materials. Great guys to work with. Outstanding quality at a fair price. 240' of fence installed with dual 5' swing gates and 4' walk gate, all screwed no nails, in 2 days with extremely THICK cedar pickets. My fence gets compliments by everyone who see's it. As a cheap b@stard who does all his own repairs, etc so its done right without wasting money......I highly recommend this fence company. Jesus called me 10 min. after I placed the requirements on Thumbtack. I knew exactly what I wanted as we had other side of the fence done with other neighbors, sent him exact measurements and pole and wood requirements. I asked if he could start the job the next day as I was leaving town the weekend and wanted it done before then. He told me that he would check if he could move some jobs around to accommodate me. He wrote back to me with a very competitive price on Thumback and mentioned that he can be at my place the next day at 9 AM, confirmed the measurements and confirmed the same price he gave me. Within 2 days the old fence was removed, new poles installed and the fence (100 ft) was replaced. Its a family run business, Jesus his uncle Julian and sons. Very friendly people. They also trimmed some trees touching the roof and hauled that away together with some other extra lumber I no longer needed in that garage that I needed to get rid of and did not have a truck/trailer to haul. In short, this crew helped me solve 3 jobs on one job, what a deal. I highly recommend them. ps. Their price by far beats any of the other quoted I received and the job was even completed before I received most other quotations.

Dennis and his crew at RLC have done a few jobs for me (power washing, fence staining, patio sealing, plant installation, sod cut and remove, weed barrier, edging installation, fence post replacement) and all have been great. When Dennis says he’ll be there, he’s there and on time. His guys do good work, they are thorough, quick (without compromising quality) and they clean up after themselves. Their prices are solid. Yes, there are some guys who will come in lower, but based on my experience, the quality is much lower too. You won’t be disappointed with your decision to give RLC your project.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
