Mike saved the day!! Would highly recommend him for any handyman project but he specifically removed our old faucet and installed our new one. We had tried to do it ourselves but failed and Mike came in and did it in under an hour! So responsive via text which is convenient and the sink looks awesome! THANK YOU, MIKE!

I hired Mr. Larrimore to replace a kitchen faucet which he completed. However, it was reported to me by the renter that there was a leak under the sink as well. Because he is a Journeyman Plumber, he agreed to remedy the problem. Mr. Larrimore contacted me to inquire re: water shut-off procedure for the individual unit versus the entire condo neighborhood before proceeding with the repair. He replaced old system connections to a safer setup. He was responsive to my initial Thumbtack requests and was flexible with his schedule to accomodate the renter. I will contact him again.

Excellent job! Very professional and had great attention to detail. He hung an entire house of window blinds into a block home and also fixed the leaking water valve under the kitchen sink. I plan on hiring again for fixture replacement and custom closet build out.

I hired them to install a replacement water heater. They did a very clean job, on time and very professional. They were very patient with answering all my questions. They were not pushy trying to sell their services. Just did whats required and explained what is not. I would definitely hire them again.

Rene is the best! He repaired some hardiplank siding, re-fastened some loose boards, and caulked the joints at our house. The best thing, was that he didnt push the paint job on the hardi-plank on us, which was great. He also repainted our condo, repaired wobbly fan (still barely wobbly, but WAY better...I'm thinking it can't be done any better than what they did), AND he repaired some water damaged laminate without having to redo the entire floors! The best thing, he worked with our budget, super about communication via text, phone, or email, and Quick about getting to projects! I secretly don't want to refer him because his schedule may get more busy, but he's been so great. I have saved him on my phone for future projects, and have been referring him to friends. you won't find a better contractor for the price and flexibility.

We hired Felipe to help us remodel our bathroom. We wanted to remove the tub unit and install a standing shower. We hired Felipe based on his sheer honesty about the cost of the project as well as his ability to begin the project as soon as possible. He charged us only for the labor of removing the tub unit (and hauling the pieces away), and the installation of the new shower, including the tiling. All of the expenses came out of our pocket, so we purchased the tile and door on our own time. Any of the other materials needed (concrete, siding, grout, etc) Felipe purchased and billed us for later. He showed us every single receipt for anything he bought at the time of reimbursement. It was all at retail prices (he bought everything from Home Depot). He also picked up the door from Home Depot for us, as it was unable to fit in our car, at no extra cost. At the end of each day he told me exactly what he and his son (the only people working the job) did and exactly what his plans were for the next day. If there was going to be a delay of any kind, he let us know right away and made it known that it was not going to change the price that we agreed upon at the beginning of the project at all. If you are having any bathroom work done in your home, I HIGHLY recommend this man. We are extremely satisfied with the completed project and the entire process. We will definitely be hiring Felipe in the future should we want to remodel our second bathroom.

Anyways, Thumbtack.com put me in touch with TOM ZYMOWSKI, 512 815 2301 and he is amazing and so affordable. He just replaced two smoke alarms, replaced 1 thermostat, replaced 2 toilet valves, repaired a loose porch light fixture FLUSHED the water heater, repaired a stuck window, and painted my inside garage+ tape and float ceiling for labor costs~400.00 I paid for parts. He'll be my regular annual handyman from now on. His email is reclaimyourcabinets@gmail.com.

After moving from Austin to San Marcos, I felt the water here is too hard, since the shampoo was not making bubbles and I saw a lot of stains in the sinks. Garrett and his team is very professional and quick in response. The devices working perfectly and I have been running the system for approximate 2 weeks. I felt the softened water immediately after the installation because of the silky feeling after I used the soap. The price along with the 5 years warranty is unbeatable. Definitely recommend them!

I found A1 Plumbing through a friend who had used their services when I had a waterline break at my rental property. Jim came out and quickly fixed the issue. I also had a turn off valve installed to prevent any other water flooding. With the great job provided I had him come to my house and install a touchless water faucet. Great work, excellent quality and reasonable.

He answered the phone quickly and was the first to respond. His price was really low since than all others. All I had to do was buy all the supplies at The Home Depot from a list that Jose provided. He installed a water heater according to inspection code. Great guy.

Chad did a water softner install for me. I don't know about you but I'd always rather give my money to a down to earth local businessman than a major one who makes you feel like you let a car salesman in your home. I highly recommend Chad and will call him again if need be.

I thought I needed a cutoff valve installed behind my gas stove as I’m getting a new stove and the installer required it. Houszz responded quickly to my request, suggesting that I first look under the cabinet next to the stove. Sure enough I found it & I’m so grateful. They could have come out & charged me a service call. I so appreciate the honesty & helpfulness. Also, the quote for installation if I had needed it was lower than the competition. Thanks again!

I hired Tim to resolve a hot water pressure and temperature issue on our gas tankless unit. It was taking 8 minutes for hot water to reach our master shower and then it would not hold temperature. He performed an exhaustive assessment to determine what the problem might be. After hours of deliberative searching, including phone calls to Navien tech support, he was able to determine we had a clogged supply line in the copper pipe that was only allowing a fraction of the water to pass. I'm surprised the water in our home was even operable. Tim is honest and fair with super high standards. I consider myself super handy, though this is my first tankless unit and it was worth the investment with Deco. It now takes 45 seconds for the hot water to reach our master shower and the water temperature sustains. Our shower experience has been full restored thanks to Tim.

PK Renovations changed our old rusty toilet to the new one. Excellent job done with reasonable pricing. Using the new toilet, we save a lot of water and enjoy much better quality of life now. The wax ring they recommended works well to prevent leaking at the bottom of the toilet.

Gene at A- Frame home services is my go to guy. When I need to know what kind of costs I am looking at, he shoots straight with me. He helped me look my place over before I bought it, he took care of my roof replacement including making sure I was getting everything I was supposed to get from the insurance company, he has done floor repairs and a water heater replacement on the tenant side of my duplex. he has also done shower repair and other plumbing work for me and even some landscaping. I call him a lot and I recommend Gene, Joe and the A Frame crew for your general contracting and repair needs.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
