Awesome experience and cool guy. We did a bunch of headshots over the course of an hour, as planned. He went the extra mile when I asked for some photos of a new product. Helped me out with a smile. Also, Paul, actually gives you all the hi res photos. Should have had him do our wedding! Would definitely work with him again.

John took our wedding pictures for us, wedding party and bride+groom shots. He was friendly, had an easy smile, and made us feel relaxed. He did a great job capturing the 1920s feel I was looking for in our black and white shots. He captured the natural location well, and we loved the silly shots he took of us. Both the formal and informal pictures were great. We couldn't be happier.

My husband and I agreed that music was going to be the most important part of our wedding ceremony and reception. DJ Noland Arocha aka DJ Men-Yo has a keen sense for music and reading the crowd. From our initial meeting and all the way through our wedding, Noland provided impeccable service. His professionalism is unlike any other DJ we met with a vast array of music styles and genres. He was personable and down to earth! Plus, my husband really liked that he had the latest equipment/technology and that his music sounded crisp and clear. On our big day, Noland was early, professional, and a genuine pleasure to work with. Our wedding music from our ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, special requests, introduction and into the evening for dancing was perfection! The uplighting he provided made the dinner and dancing look beautiful. We cannot say enough about how great Noland was to work with! He challenged himself to keep the dance floor packed the entire evening. Just a genuinely talented and nice person! We definitely recommend Noland to anyone looking to have a fun celebration! Thanks Noland!

I am from Massachusetts and my daughter's wedding was being held in San Antonio in October 2016, we hadn't planned to have a videographer due to all the other expenses already incurred. A few days before the wedding I had second thoughts since there were family members unable to make the trip to Texas. I somehow found Thumbtack, inputted what I was looking for and the fact the event was in 3 days! I quickly received replies, I think Ben even texted to set up an appointment to talk. We were very fortunate that Ben was actually available that Saturday and willing to do whatever was needed. I checked some of his prior work and was very impressed! I would highly recommend Ben to anyone wanting a professional video that captures those special moments. I do wish I had given some thought to having a quick video of each table to get as many people as possible on the video. Hopefully, with my daughter and her husband living in Texas I will have other opportunities to use Ben & Heather's services in the future, possible a baptism or another large family event. Thank you again Ben! Cindy Fitch

Mary was great to work with. 1) She always responded to emails and phone calls quickly. 2) She was flexible with our schedule for the bridal portraits (my daughter lives out of town) and got them back quickly so we could have a print to display at the wedding. She had no problem with the wedding being at our church and the reception at another location. 3) I LOVE her pictures. One thing that impressed me on her web-page was the indoor shots - many photographers have lots of outdoor shots but few indoor ones. The wedding and reception were both inside (it was July!) and she did a great job. She was very discreet and managed to capture the beauty, sacredness, and joy of the day. Somehow she managed to convince my daughter and her husband to step outside for some quick (and wonderful) shots and then continued the magic indoors. 4) Compared to many other photographers, she has very reasonable rates. 5) She truly loves her job and her joy bubbles out to everyone around - it was more like she was an old friend rather than "just" a photographer. I will definitely contact Mary for other occasions!

Both talented and professional are a combination not easily found in a sea of photographers, but Mesh is a rare breed! He has an incredible eye and creates a comfortable environment for all your creative aspirations to come alive, his editing skills supersed your expectations every time and his turn around is prompt. We couldn't be happier with our wedding photographer! Jennifer and her assistant did a spectacular job at our wedding. I can't believe that at 8 months pregnant she was one of our hardest working vendors that night. Our photos are stunning. She really listened to us and what we wanted. We didn't get to shoot as many formal shots as we had hoped because we were losing the light, but the ones we have are lovely. Jennifer was fantastic through the entire process. We had some specific requests and we like to be photographed at specific angles, we're both in entertainment so we know that we can be a little picky when it comes to our photos. Jennifer did a beautiful job of taking those requests and working with it to give us some really stunning photos to last a lifetime. She captured every special moment. I was most impressed by the mini gallery that we got before we even left for our honeymoon! A couple hundred photos (highlights) that she put together for us to enjoy while we were on our honeymoon. One of the hardest parts of being a bride is having to wait for your photos and videos to come back. This batch of photos helped to hold us over. And I couldn't believe that even with holidays, and having a baby, we still got all of our other photos delivered on time. We really can't say enough about how wonderful Sweetleaf Photography is! Hire them! You won't regret it. We look forward to working with Jennifer and her team again in the future!

Michael did an amazing job with everything throughout the entire process of taking our engagement and wedding photos. Not only did he take the shots we had imagined ourselves, but he also used his own creativity to make things come out even better. He truly has a great eye for photography and I would recommend him to anyone.

I am not one for giving 5-star reviews. They seem disingenuous. But with Gregory Hoffman and GGC Productions, 5 stars was the only possible rating. Gregory not only listened to all our concerns and suggestions, and played all the music we wanted to hear, but he helped coordinate the flow of the reception with his great personality and got our guests shaking their groove things on the floor. Seriously, the photos of my uncle, who had just recovered from a quintuple bypass, doing the "Harlem Shake" are priceless. From the very beginning of the search process, I knew I wanted GGC Productions to be our DJ. Gregory responded to emails almost immediately, and was a great value compared to other DJs with the same services and experience. He made us feel completely comfortable throughout the entire planning process. Most brides know that getting some vendors to answer a phone call or email can be next to impossible. Not only was Gregory quick to respond, he even initiated contact with me again after the Christmas and New Year's holidays just to see how wedding planning was going! When he couldn't tour the venue with my fiance, coordinator, and I on the day we had scheduled, he later went to the tour the venue on his own. Without me even asking. He made the changes to our layout that were necessary to make our dance floor perfect, and he incorporated my fiance's original song into our playlist seamlessly. He didn't even complain when we only got the recording file to him 3 days before the event. I wholeheartedly recommend Gregory Hoffman and GGC Productions for your wedding (or any event)! He is the best Austin has to offer.

Norris did an absolutely epic job with filming & editing my SxSW talk. He & his wife Charlene took the job on short notice, communicated & arrived promptly, and completed the editing quickly despite the fact that my presentation had a large number of slides. If you need event filming at SxSW or at any other conference in the Austin area, you should definitely hire Norris & his team.

We absolutely loved Golden Age Media! My husband and I are so glad we chose them to do videography on our wedding day! We found Joseph on Thumbtack and he was so responsive and helpful through the whole booking process. He even agreed to skype us so that we could get to know him more and to answer our questions. As a bride who planned her entire wedding alone, I sincerely appreciated Joseph’s professionalism and his knowledge on what to do/film on our wedding day. He never bombarded me with calls or txt during the entire planning process. He only asked me about what I wanted once and instantly knew my vision from the start. He and his assistant were extremely friendly and enthusiastic on our wedding day! We received our videos about two weeks after our wedding which was amazing! The quality of the video was perfect! The way that our videos were put together brought my husband and I to tears and took us back to our special day. We are so thankful for that. All of our guests and family complimented our videos and praised how great of a job our videographers did. We highly recommend Golden Age Media and look forward to working with them in the future! Do not hesitate to hire them! They will take care of you and help capture the best memories of your event! Wishing Thumbtack would let me share my video just so everyone could see how amazing it is!!! Thank you Joseph for your amazing work, professionalism, friendliness, and passion for what you do. You were awesome!!

Brent did an awesome job! I knew I wanted my wedding video graphed because I wouldn't be able to see the wedding party, including my husband, dance down the aisle to the music I choose for them. My youngest daughter did a scripture reading and my oldest daughter sang the Lord's Prayer for us. I loved it!!! Brent did a great job in capturing the wedding party, the ceremony, reception and the beautiful venue. I have watched it numerous time already and love it more and more. To be able to go back and relive that day and all the money, time and effort that went into the wedding it was well worth every penny we spent. I would definitely recommend Brent to anyone. He has captured a very important moment in my life and I'm able to relive it as often as I want too! I always catch myself with a very big smile on my face each and every time. Both my sisters were at my wedding and have watched the video and stated that what ever I paid for the video that it was the best spent money on my wedding. Thank you, Brent!

One of my favorite weddings that I photographed in 2014 was Aasha and David's wedding at the TFWC Mansion in Austin on June 29, 2014. Matt Kordelski with Mattkprovideo.com was the professional wedding videographer at Aasha and David's wedding. Matt worked very well with the other wedding vendors at the wedding. He also worked well with the couple. Brides, wedding vendors who can work well with your other wedding vendors as well as with you and the groom is extremely important and ensures that your big day will be a whole lot less stressful! Matt also delivers to his couples beautiful wedding videos, as you can see if you check out his wedding videography online. All in all, Matt with Mattkprovideo.com is an excellent choice for your wedding and event videographer!

Anthony was quick to respond (which was important since I reached out only days before my wedding), professional (great since I didn't meet him until after the ceremony), easy to work with, and delivered a fantastic product-very quickly! We love our ceremony video: great quality, great sound, captured all the details. We are so grateful for this way to save our memories of our special day!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
