The movers we had were awesome. They were on time and very polite and respectful to us and our items. They were great together as a team with no friction. The whole time we had them, they did not take breaks and courteous. They did not once slack off or slowed down. They were both energetic! If I were to move again, I would request those 2 individuals(Gustavo and Jose) to help again with no hesitation. Also, comparing to other moving companies, the rates were reasonable and did not kill our budget. Thank you Texans Movers for all your help and making the move with no stress!!

These guys were exceptional. I called Mr. Brooks at the last minute because he was the best rate going considering the amount of things I had to move from a house to an apartment (I had to downsize my life considerably) as well as the distance of the move; from deep in Missouri City off Hwy 6 to the middle of Downtown Houston. Other companies wanted to charge $65 per hour to $99 per hour with a two hour minimum and something they called a movers fee of $69. Just when I thought I was gonna have to take a ride with the fee the other moving companies were charging I read a message on thumbtack from Mr. Brooks stating that he could move me for $175 based on the amount of furniture I had and I jumped on it. I will say I was a bit apprehensive because his price was so low in comparison to the others... and as that old adage goes, "You get what you pay for." I got more than what I paid for. 1) exceptional customer service, 2) personable personalities, 3) hard working and efficient gentleman that enjoyed what they were doing. I moved furniture as a means to make money when I was in college so I know first hand how tough being a mover can be. I highly recommend these guys to anybody else in need of a moving company. I would really like to see these guys expand and grow, if I wasn't in financial transition right now I would put money behind them to do such. To help them better serve you always be upfront and honest about the exact things you will need to move. It assists them with their logistics...I threw some things in at the last minute but they made it work. If you are reading this Mr. Brooks I would like to thank you and your helper for your service. Sincerely, R I Norsworthy 832 983 0379

I hate dealing with moving companies. In the past, I have had issues with hidden fees, trying to uncharge me, and attitudes. These guys are awesome. The gentleman I spoke to on the phone was nice and professional and upfront. Any time I emailed to verify scheduling, they responded right away. The two guys that showed up were pleasant, took care with my things and when they thought they had scratched my floor (they didn't) they brought it to my attention. They moved me from a 3 story townhouse to a storage and apartment and they never complained or acted like it was a chore. I would use these guys anytime.

Out of all the licensed moving companies I found, they were the most affordable. Even though their prices were low, they were still generous with the shrink wrap, came with enough blankets, and didn't run the clock. They told me upfront what charges to expect and didn't try to tack on surprise charges at the end. Great experience.

I usually do not ever take the time to write a review but I would not feel right if I did not give the credit thats due to this company. I have used multiple moving companies over the years and I've had my share of experiences; the good, the okay and the bad. I did not realize there was GREAT with a moving company from beginning to end. I inquired with a few companies and unfortunetly for my short notice, they were already booked up, which is understandable. I received a response from A&C movers and called to see if they could move me the next day. From the moment the guy answered the phone, I was intrigued by the great professional upbeat attitude and ease he tried to bring me with my frustation and panic of not finding a company for my next day move. He assured me he would make it happen. He couldn't gurantee me a time because they were fully booked but he told me if I could be patient with him he would squeeze me in. I was kind of hesitant with being "squeezed" in but I was running out of options. I thought they may just throw my stuff in the truck in a rush, something would break but throughout the day I received calls that I was not forgotten and they were finishing up a job. Around 7pm the driver Victor called me to let me know he was on the way. You would think after a day of moving he would be tired, or just like okay, we're on the way. However, he was just as upbeat as the guy I talked to the day before. He was nice and professional and let me know they were 30 minutes away. They got here and introduced themselves with a smile, assured me they would do their best to make this quick and easy. They took charge instead of looking lost or needing to be told what to do like I've had to direct movers in the past before. They were fast but careful. They're well mannered. They're professional and they got all my things loaded and unloaded fairly quickly. They asked me how I liked everything. They thanked me instead of me thanking them and shook my hand. In a day in age when people do not take the time to look you in the eye, shake a hand and communicate.. I was beyond impressed with a moving company that has so much customer service from beginning to end. HIGH FIVE A&C MOVERS!! I will be using the company in the future and telling all my friends about my experience!!

Movers were respectful, on time and professional. Very pleasant experience. I also got the price adjusted due to it being only one piece that needed moving, something the other moving companies weren't willing to do. Will be using you again for my moving needs

I had a very pleasant experience with this moving company. The owner and his workers were very polite, professional, and personable. They called me about an hour prior to arrival to let me know the status of their arrival, they were on time, they were very careful in handling my furniture, and the price quoted did not change. I will use them again, and I will recommend them to others. Great job Emanuel Movers!

I was looking for a handyman to help me move a 1 BR apt on Jul 28, 2018. Brady responded to my request with his quote. Then, I sent him pics of the furniture to moved, and a week before the move day, we talked over telephone. At that time, given his amazing reviews, he was first choice as a handyman to help me move. As the move day drew closer, for a couple of days, Brady stopped responding. This seemed to be strange as he had been very fast in responding to my text messages beforehand. So, I thought he was no longer interested and started looking for someone else. Then, a day before the move, he responded that he had been out of town. Given his amazing past reviews, as I needed a second handyman to help me move, I hired him as well. On the move day, he arrived on time and moved things cautiously yet efficiently. Regrettably, in our conversation, while he had indicated he had a moving Dolley and moving blankets, on the move day, he did not bring them. All the same, throughout the move, our interactions were pleasant and very friendly. Overall, I appreciated his work ethic and punctuality. Had Brady not have stopped responding to the texts while traveling and brought the moving Dolley and moving blankets, I would have totally given him 5 stars. All the same, moving is always a stressful experience but I was glad to have Brady by my side.

Great Service! They were fast and very nice. Even when there was a change of plans they worked with us and made sure that we were getting the best service. They came with three men, dollies, blankets and saran wrap. All my items were handle well and respectfully they even offered to help put things together and offered to use their tools to help us. It was a (true) flat rate at $285 and they didn't charge us with "hidden fees". So glad we went with them and so glad I didn't hire a hourly service especially once we got to my apartment another moving company was using the freight elevator which added unaccounted time. Thanks Better Deal Movers!

They were excellent! Very detailed and they made sure I was happy. What impressed me the most is how he cleaned my walk in shower. One of the main reasons for hiring them was because the grout was black because it hadn't been cleaned properly. Some cleaning companies did not offer this. By the time he left it looked brand new!!! Thank you!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
