Working with Cathy was easy and well worth it! Cathy knew exactly what to do with my vacant home. She selected the furniture pieces, rugs, and decor. The house showed well and we had two serious offers within the first week. We actually hated it when Cathy had the furniture and accessories removed since the house looked great, better than when we lived there. I would recommend Cathy to anyone looking for a Stager. Cathy is talented and reasonably priced!

I've found Lauren via Thumbtack for her Wedding Planning Services. I have noted that Lauren is very determined, hardworking, and puts in the extra time for her business. During our meeting she told me she has her Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts in Interior Design from the Art Institute in Houston. Perfect, I thought! I recently bought a new home and needed some design work. I told her what I was looking for, what I needed, and I gave her a deadline due to a party I would be hosting soon and she executed! When an issued occurred she followed-up and ensured it was corrected. I'm very pleased with her Interior Design service and will recommend her services.

Jann Wisdom Designs is a first-class service provider from start to finish. Jann Wisdom and Elizabeth Frost are an amazing team, backed with a wealth of knowledge and resources to meet your needs no matter your background, budget, or style. My home was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. Jann and her team have walked me through the rebuilding process from patiently picking out granite, tile, paint colors, flooring and backsplash to choosing my style of furniture, fixtures and even educated me on proper furniture positioning! Jann, Elizabeth and their team have been a blessing to me and I highly recommend their service.

I have worked with Carrie for about 5 years and 2 homes. She worked within my budget(s) and I have been pleased with the results every time. (Curtains, artwork, rugs and more) When we were in the process of selling our first home, the buyers wanted ALL the patio furniture and accessories that Carrie decorated.

Ariana is an amazing decorator with a vision that makes everyone so impressed! She decorated my beach house so beautifully that guests literally squeal when they walk through the door. She understood the job, stayed under the budget, met all the milestones on time, and seemed to delight in her work. Ariana was able to find incredible pieces, keeping around one central focal point as the theme "her inspiration piece." She found antiques that look good as new, reproduction pieces that don't look inexpensive, and bedding that feels amazing.

RTY is an amazing architect firm! What a talented group of young guys? I had the opportunity of receiving my consultation from Robel Yemane. Going into this I knew it would be quite the challenge. Anyone who knows me, will say that I'm truly an indecisive person. Especially when it comes down to something like customizing my own home. Robel was nothing but patient with me. He assured me, we would make the dream into reality together. I'm beyond pleased with the company. I have and I will continue to refer RTY Design Control Consulting to all of my friends and family!!! ~Vicente

Alex helped us finish a home that we recently purchased and remodeled. She was there to offer opinions and suggestions on design elements at each step of the process. She also assisted with helping us organize after downsizing from our previous home. Her sense of style is amazing and she does a great job keeping you informed during the process as she shops for decor and furniture. I was always a part of the design process and she took our personal style, budget, and storage/space constraints in mind. I particularly loved that she was able to leverage existing decor into the new design and use it in ways that I had not thought of. Working with Alex is always easy and I have recommended her to all of my friends and family who need design and/or home organizing services. We will be using AdLong designs in the near future, and most certainly in our next home!

Mr. Carriles and his crew were top-notch in the recent complete remodeling of our home. We live in a well-established neighborhood in Pearland Texas and our home was built in 1978, so the project was not a simple undertaking. From taking care of flooring, removing old bathroom fixtures and installing new ones, Juan kept me updated the whole way through. In fact, there are some period details on our kitchen, like an older cooktop connection, that Juan went out of his way to find the best solution to match our needs. From start to finish he was cordial, educational, easy to communicate with, and very professional. The finished product is excellent and surpassed all our expectations. We all can confidently say that we have a newly remodeled home to enjoy for years to come! We even have several more projects that we plan on using Mr. Carriles for other properties since his company specializes in everything from kitchens to bathrooms to room additions to roofs, literally from the ground up. Thank you Juan, excellent work and highly recommended!

As with any big job we obtained three bids from separate remodeling contracting companies in the Houston area to remodel our outdated 80’s style kitchen and dining room. We wanted to combine both spaces to make one large "family friendly’ kitchen. We knew we were looking at a fair estimate when each of the bids came within $1000 of one another for what turned out to be over a $50,000 job, but it left us with a the harder task on how to decide what company to go with. What made our decision to go with Kitchen and Bath To Go, was Libby, their in house interior designer. What impressed us the most was how she easily made us imagine and see greater possibilities for our space and her willingness to give us free design advice before we had even decided to hire them. We could really see she has a passion for transformation and thinking outside the box. All of the decorative and atheistic descions that needed to be made, such as cabinetry style, paint finishes, flooring, granite, etc...it was all just so overwhelming, but with her guidance and vision. Everything just came together for us. The project administrator, Reagan, provided us with a detailed weekly schedule of who would be out on what day and what they would be doing. Their workers are skilled artisans that transformed our kitchen into a true designer space that’s liveable and one we are that proud of. Marlon, the project manager, was always stopping by to make sure everything was on point and on schedule. Of course with any job there are unexpected issues that come up, but the he was always accessible and saw to it that the corrections were quickly and properly addressed. We could not be happier with the decision we made to hire this company and have recommended them to many of our friends and family. Our next project, to remodel the our master bathroom and powder room. We have already put a bug in Libby’s ear to put our project down for the spring!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

    • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
    • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
    • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

    • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
    • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
    • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
    • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
