âI specialize in people photography, but not in regular studio portraiture, but what I call an environmental portrait. I photograph people in places they love or feel comfortable, like the beach, at their home, or in the great outdoors.
âEnvironmental portraits should be a custom hand-crafted works of art, capable of being hung next to other objects of art in the finest homes. It should reveal something about the person or persons being photographed through the surroundings. Though many photographers reserve the term environmental portraiture only for those portraits made outdoors, I expand the definition to include any portrait made on location, whether outdoors, in the office or in the home. A successful environmental portrait will demonstrate good design, natural posing, color harmony and good expression. â Doug Box
