We are currently working with them on our first project - video advertisements for both TV and Digital/Online, using motion graphics (as opposed to shot video) in these first spots. We really enjoy working with them and have a number of additional video projects in line for them, including shooting some of our live events. This is a young crew compared to some of the others we interviewed, but they are super professional, talented, and they were willing to partner with us to deliver video services to our licensees across the U.S.. We look forward to working with them on an on-going basis.

Eileen and Howe were so great to work with for our corporate event photography! We had a two-day conference with 19 speakers and over 400 attendees. They were able to take great shots of the speakers, our sponsors and exhibit booths along with great crowd shots. She and Howe were very professional and gave us back our photos within days after the event along with video footage and a video montage. We will definitely keep in touch for future photography services! www.einsurancesymposium.com

Michelle is super personable and was really willing to work with what I wanted my video to be like but also had ideas of her own in case I was indecisive or didn't have a preference in a certain area. She got my video back to me quickly and her prices were super super affordable considering the incredible quality of the video! Highly recommend. She's also a super fun, down to earth, relatable person and anyone would be lucky to work with her!

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for setting me up with Hubert Pralitz and James Michael Williams to play at our wedding back in June in McKinney. They did a fantastic job! For many years I dreamed of having live classical music playing at my ceremony and that was a detail I did not want to pass up on. It was something I had to have and these two delivered and made my dream come alive in more ways than one. You have no idea. They have no idea. All of my guests have commented on how beautifully they both played. The icing on the moment was when they played while my friend sang The Prayer. I cannot convey how much that song means to me and it was a detail that I had to make happen. And boy did it happen! It was truly beautiful! As I watch the video it amazes me that they never rehearsed together yet they all meshed so beautifully as if they had done this many times before. That is a sign of truly talented musicians. My only regret is that I did not get to personally meet Hubert and James after our ceremony therefore I did not get to personally thank them from the bottom of my heart for sharing their talent with us. As you can imagine, after the ceremony things moved very quickly and we were whisked here and whisked there. Before I knew it, they had left and I did not get a chance to speak with them both. If you could do me a huge favor, please let them know how wonderful they were, how much this all meant to me and that I thank you them very much. Feel free to share this email as well. By the way, my friend Desiree had nothing but wonderful things to say about Hubert and James and she was delighted to work with them.

With Movement Creative Agency I was able to experience my vision come to life. We did a small video shoot of me doing what I love best, teaching hip-hop. The quality of the work was amazing. Ilijah is a great asset to the team. He understands how important the quality and passion of his work are. Whether it is recording an event, taking photographs, or recording in the studio, quality customer experience will be fulfilled. I say, invest in this agency. You will not be let down!

Steve, of 8612 Images, did an incredible job for our son's Bar Mitzvah! Not only did we receive such meaningful, heart warming and fun memories, Steve's professionalism, sensitivity ( our son has Autism), and extra effort kept the whole photographic and video experience positive and enjoyable for all. We are so grateful to Steve and highly recommend him as an exceptional photographer! Debbie and Philip Molina

Clint was great! He took the time to get a sense of what we were looking for and worked really hard to make it happen. I hardly noticed he was there on the day of the wedding but he was still able to get footage for a video that we will always cherish!

When I started to look at videographers & photographers 4500Films was the first website I went to. I knew from watching one video that 4500Films was it! I had to have Mel & Cyndee photograph & take video of our wedding! From the very beginning Mel & Cyndee were amazing! My bridal pictures were an absolute blast with the two of them acting silly & everyone feeling like one big family!! I couldn't have asked for a better team. Our wedding pictures are absolutely stunning. The video is breathtakingly perfect! My husband & I couldn't be happier! We can't thank 4500Films enough for capturing ALL of the perfect moments from our big day!!

He is very thorough with his work. I am very pleased with the job he did at my bridal shower. I have now hired him for the wedding. What was most memorable is that he added a nice touch to the highlight video with my crown and septa saying congratulations to me. I loved and cherish that small detail.

I contacted Steve at Vader to document a commercial rental I had. It was the first time I used Steve. He provided me with photos and a video. The most impressive thing to me was the Aerial photos showing access to roads and highways. My clients rental property was rented quickly and with little fuss.

We had family portrait photos done twice and were very pleased with the outcome both times. I also had him do some photos of me with my new puppy. They turned out very well. Everyone compliments me on the portraits. The video he made for us of our family reunion is priceless. We will definitely call Edward Wilson Photography again.

My wife and I got married on 11.03.12. J&J did a FANTASTIC job on our wedding video. They were on time; they were courteous and great to work with. They had multiple HD cameras and captured lots of moments that we were not able to see or enjoy during the event, which makes our video that much more valuable to us. A short time after the ceremony they contacted us and asked us if we had any song suggestions which we sent to them and they used perfectly. We would not hesitate to use them again and we would strongly recommend them to anyone that might need a videographer for any occasion. GREAT job guys!! Look forward to using you all again as our children start to have events in their lives.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
