The work performed by Hernandez Tree Service is phenomenal! My trees look awesome! Lewis is a great guy, and I hope to work with him in the coming years. He has a great eye for doing what needs to be done. Not just getting in there and randomly cutting off branches, like so many other tree services tend to do. Give them a try...you won't be disappointed ! Great pricing, too! Cleanup was beyond what I expected. Thanks, Lewis!!!

Prompt, professional, quality service. Daniel and his crew responded to my service request immediately and we were able to arrange the work for the next day. They arrived on time, and I was immediately impressed how each person had his assigned responsibilities. Because each of the 5 people were great at their job, all work was completed in little more than an hour and a half. Clean up was excellent. I highly recommend Daniel and Tornado's Tree Service.

Santos and his crew did an awesome job with my landscaping needs. I had sod installed in the back yard, tree rings put around 2 trees and had a tree trimmed. They completed all that and did a few minor additional things on their own. Santos gave me a very reasonable quote for this work. I would definitely recommend them and I will use them again if I have any landscaping needs.

Ramon and his crew are outstanding! He called shortly after e mailing me and was at my home within 10 minutes. He explained the work and what it would look like afterwards. They arrived from another job in less than 45 minutes and took down a 15 1/2 year old Bald Cypress within minutes. They ground down the stump and cleaned up thoroughly. Ramon even trimmed a few branches off another tree I wanted to clean up! He is friendly and gave a very competitive price. He suggested ways to replace the area with grass and even helped move some brick before the job began. I'll use him again and I will refer him to friends needing tree services.

Hawks Lawn and Tree service did a FABULOUS job! They cut down trees, pulled up bushes, cut branches away from my roof, and trimmed branches to allow more light for my grass to grow - per their advice! They were efficient, prompt, tidy, and VERY reasonable! I plan to use them again this summer for some landscaping!

We hired Southwest after recent storms damaged our trees. Work was thorough, and cleanup and haul off was immaculate. I was surprised Eric had such extensive knowledge on our "tree health". Turns out we were just about to break ground on shop and Eric really cautioned us on bringing in tractors and exposing roots of our Oak Trees......and the dangers that SOIL COMPACTION can and will most likely cause. My husband was so convinced he decided to move the shop another 20 feet away. Very satisfied and will hire again for all our tree care needs. Thanks Southwest!!! Natasha and Pete Albright

Jaime was the first Thumbtack PRO to contact me for this job. He was available for an immediate estimate. His pricing was very fair and competitive. He did a superior job. He had excellent communication. He went above and beyond the task and went "the extra mile" to trim my Mom's trees and make them acceptable for the city, as well as doing all the clean up asked for involving some unruly shrubs and small trees growing close to the house and fence. We are so happy with his work. We would HIGHLY recommend this PRO and hope you will hire him for your next project. We sure believe you will be pleased with Jaime's Tree Service. 5 STARS all the way.

Salado was on time, courteous and professional during the estimate and was early on the day of the service. Just as the previous ratings depicted, he cleaned after himself and even cut the branches into usable firelogs for me to put in my fire pit. Will definitely use again and will gladly inform my neighbors and friends of his company if they are long for tree services and other landscaping needs.

Mr. Perez has provided my lawn care for two years. He does a good job and does special tasks when asked (spread grass seeds, planted bushes, trimmed tree leaves and other lawn care tasks). His prices are reasonable and he doesn’t try to take advantage.

Jose’s work was great! I had two major leaks in my system and he basically had to excavate my yard and remove an old stump from a cut down tree that was never removed. He was professional and on time and really took the time to walk me through all his repairs and how to work my system. Thank you Jose for your hard work and making my system operable again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
