Mike and his team did amazing work and continued to update the landscaping until me and my picky GF were completely happy with it. Mike even came out to work when it was 20 degrees out and he was sick. I will definitely hire Mike for any future landscaping projects and I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone needing superior landscaping work.

Timely and top quality work and very reasonable prices. Very experienced with tree cutting. I will be hiring Jeff again for landscaping. Very knowledgeable and hard worker. Very hands on and likes to do most of the work himself. I would recommend him to anyone needing tree cutting or landscaping. Thanks Jeff, good job.

We hired Jon to replace our wooden 9 year old crumbling fence that had partially blown down from a storm. We got lots of quotes from big fencing companies and no one could come close to the price that Jon offered us. Jon's quote was about $10 cheaper per linear foot than the other companies could offer! Jon and his crew did a beautiful job on the fence. They even had to deal with connecting the fence to a large tree and they did it seamlessly. I am so happy that we had Jon and his crew come out to do our fence. They were able to finish the project in just three days and I hardly knew they were even there. The best part is, that rather than just take the old wood to the dump, they offered it to a few couples who needed the wood repair their fences/make crafts which is super environmentally friendly! I will definitely hire them in the future to do other projects around our house.

Chuck and his team did a fantastic job on our backyard landscaping. They were reasonably priced and completed the project as scheduled. I would highly recommend American Arbors to those looking to complete similar projects.

I needed landscaping in our front yard. Our front flower bed was empty so we wanted some new plants and mulch and we wanted a border wall with limestone. We also needed this done ASAP as we had previously hired three landscapers and they all no showed on us and we were moving out of state soon. Jeremy gave me a free estimate and said he could do the project within a few days. Jeremy was very professional and helped me with plant decisions. He completed the job quickly and it looks amazing!! He even did some work in the backyard for us. I highly recommend Cibolo Gardens and Landscaping.

I had a great experience with crafted outdoor living and Design and would highly recommend them. They installed one pallet of sod and laid 2 yards of mulch. Their pricing was the most competitive out of all the estimates I received and they completed the job in under 48 hours from approval. Final bill matched the estimate exactly.

Working with Nunez Landscaping Design was great! He responded very quickly to my Thumbtack request and was able to come out and provide an estimate for the work in a couple of days. He worked with my budget and was still able to provide everything I wanted. The yard looks great and I can't wait to have him provide lawncare! I will definitely use Pablo on my next landscaping job for sure!!!

They worked with my price range to fill some holes, trim trees, mow the grass, and pick weeds. They came back to seal the tree wounds and groom a few more pieces of dead wood to give me that piece of mind. I'm happy to finally start enjoying my backyard.

These guys are great and I totally recommend them!!We called them for a tall ladder to put up a painting up high on our wall. They showed up with ladder and helped put up the painting which was very helpful of them. They do a lot of things and when we asked if they could help us fix the sink too.. they just jumped on it and fixed it right away. They are very professional and did a clean job :)

They did an excellent job adding rock to my landscaping and moving sprinkler heads. I had a couple questions and concerns along the way and I was able to get extremely fast responses. Everything turned out beautiful! I was hoping to add pictures, but it has been raining ever since the project was completed. I will definitely be calling again when I am ready to address my back yard landscaping needs! & if I did not say it in person - Thank You So Much!!! You all did a fantastic job.

I ran a landscaping business several years ago but I'm not able to do the labor anymore because I messed up my back and I'm getting old, so I reluctantly admitted that I would have to hire someone to help me. Having been in the business I have pretty much seen it all and know how hard it is to find someone who cares about quality installation and customer service. Roberto responded with a quote within minutes of me posting my project. His quote was higher than the other 3 quotes I received but his reviews were excellent (unlike the others) and I could tell he knew what he was doing. We agreed on a firm price and he completed the project 2 days later (today). He showed up on time. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Didn't try to up-sell me on anything. Did the work exactly the way I wanted it, cleaned up everything better than he found it, and even did some extra little things for me without changing the agreed price. I wish I had known him when I had my business! I would have hired him in a second. Excellent experience from start to finish. I am already planning another project for him to do.

I needed to landscape my backyard as well as trim trees and replenish the granite in the front beds. Jair did it all. The job was time sensitive. Jar understood that. He kept his commitment to complete by my fibish date and did whatever it took to meet that tight deadline whatever that took. Jair is going to do ongoing bi-weekly maintenance for me. The job turn ed out fantastic ! A real winner here; I highly recommend.

Building a stone fire pit in the middle of my wood deck (extremely cool and unique. Shawn can design anything!) Stone edging for trees and garden beds. Next up, new tile flooring in the kitchen/breakfast areas of my home! Fabulous work st great prices!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
