I needed a ceiling fan installed in my bedroom, but the original light fixture did not have needed support for the ceiling fan. I called Blast's Way, You Way and received amazing customer service. I was able to book an appointment for someone to add an additional 2x4 to support the new fan and the installation. The installer, Steven, was on time and completed the work in a reasonable amount of time. The price was affordable as well. I will be using their services again.

I just bought a new home that came with a laundry list of repairs, especially with the roof, which included: securing the ridge vent at the very top of the house, nailing down flashing all around the house and chimney, painting rusty chimney cap and flashing, securing loose shingles, sealing holes in the decking from the attic, and cleaning the gutters. Ultima gave me a great quote. The entire team was friendly and punctual with completing tasks. I'm very satisfied with the job they did and will call them when it's time to replace the roof.

Rios Home Exteriors was the only company to give my an estimate without an appointment. I received several bids and Rios was several thousands less. They threw in free ridge vent and new roof vents. They also installed my attic fan for free. in addition, they put in new vent pipes and painted them to match the roof. They used Certain Teed 30 year shingles. A lot of the roofs in our neighborhood have been replaced, and I have the best looking one. I highly recommend Rios Home Exteriors.

HD Roofing & Construction did a great job on fixing the numerous problems around my house. They sealed leaky windows, roof leaks, loose tile, missing brick, patched, and painted walls with issues. They did very good work, were very courteous and conscientious about their work. Quality was good and they were very careful around our furniture. Also willing to come back and fix anything I wasn't perfectly happy with. I will definitely use HD Roofing & Construction again and have already talked with them about future projects.

Les worked for me on three occasions, each time for fairly extensive periods, averaging 2 - 3 months each time. Originally, I wanted to fix up our old place before selling it. The bathrooms were the main area of interest, and he suggested using tile for the lavatories which had originally been done in cultured marble that had yellowed and stained over time. The finished results looked outstanding. When he had completed the majority of the original work, a roof leak following a storm damaged my wooden floors and the ceiling and wall sheetrock upstairs. A few months later, Les returned and re-floored partial sections of two upstairs rooms. The original flooring had been applied with glue, so it was extremely difficult to get the floor level again so that new wood could be laid, but he managed to do so, and the net result was that the new flooring blended in seamlessly. Damage to the ceiling was also repaired expertly. Finally, when we moved into our new place, Les 1) made a number of sheetrock repairs throughout the house, 2) repainted most of the house (2400 sq. feet with several flights of stairs), 3) removed the carpeting and refloored the downstairs bedroom/office using hardwood, and 4) built a custom wall-to-wall (8' wide by 8' high) bookcase in one of the upstairs rooms, and 4) applied an epoxy coating to the garage. I was extremely satisfied with the quality of all of the work and feel confident in saying that Les can take on any challenge given to him. He is also dependable and trustworthy.

When I was selling my house earlier this year I had one buyer insist I needed to replace the entire roof. Thankfully I'd had A&K Roofing do some maintenance on my roof a few years earlier, so I called them again. Todd inspected my roof, gave me an honest assessment of its condition, recommended and completed repairs, and gave me an inspection report I used to negotiate with a new family who bought my house. He also was kind enough to remove an old satellite dish and repair the shingles where it had been so it wouldn't look so bad while on the market. If you want an honest roofing company, call A&K Roofing.

Great company to do business with. our roof started leaking pretty bad after Harvey so we called our insurance company. They denied our roof replacement saying it wasn't storm related. If it weren't for LeakProof we would have spent over $15,000.00 for our roof! LeakProof sent out Benjamin Cheek. He was very profesional. After inspecting the roof he showed us pictures of what he claimed was absolutely wind damage from the storm. He explained how the insurance claims process works and how he would highly recommend we call our insurance company to come back to our house while he was there to walk around with the adjuster so that he could point out the damage he noticed. We called, scheduled another appointment with the insurance and let Benjamin meet our adjuster to represent us. After the adjuster reinspected with Benjamin they approved the complete replacement of our roof! two days later LeakProof replaced our entire roof! They did an outstanding! Our roof is 4500 sq ft and they had it done the same day. I am so thankful I called them! Instead of forking out $15,000-$20,000 thanks to LeakProof all we paid was our $1,000.00 deductable!! I highly recommend them. In fact they are replacing the roof on both my mother and my brothers houses within the next couple weeks.

Lan-Bar company gave me a great experience in getting a new roof! Lindsey was so nice and professional from our initial conversation and even gave a follow-up call to make sure the roof was to my liking. The crew that installed the roof was great as well. They cleaned up well and I haven't found a nail yet and it's been a over a week since they installed the roof. The price was also extremely reasonable! I would definitely recommend this company and plan on using them in the future to install a patio!

Zach came to change out a broken bathroom vent fan and re-seal a window that leaked during the last storm we had in Houston. He was very knowledgeable and I appreciated that he cleaned up the area after installing the vent fan. I also appreciated his honesty when he saw some deferred maintenance items but didn't pressure me into fixing them right away, but explained when a good time to fix them would be. His price was very fair.

Contacted Mr Franks through Thumbtack in the morning and by evening of the same day he was on my roof. Great communication and respect for my time and situation. I asked for an evaluation of roof installed 3 years ago showing obvious issues. Mr Franks gave me a complete detailed analysis of all issues, offered to contact shingle manufacturer to inquire about warranty, and provided expert advice on how to proceed. He discussed options based on my budget and took the time to discuss the pros and cons of each of said options. He has even offered to provide expert representation as I meet with roofer that did the original work! Trey has really gone out of his way to be of assistance. Professional, courteous, and honest; three things that are sometimes hard to find in a contractor these days. Mr Franks demonstrated all three and I have hired him as my representative in assuring that my roofing situation is resolved appropriately.

This is an amazing and dedicated team of professionals. Fletcher is honest, diligent with a focus to detail and craftsmanship. He was here many times during the demo and rebuild. I actually hired Phoenix for my roof, siding, gutters, windows and painting. Big job which could have been very stressful for me but Fletcher made it simple and stress free. I didn't have to fret when I was away at work. He timed everything perfectly. The teams were professional and respectful. The house looks amazing, my neighbors are in awe of the transformation. I will certainly use him again when I redo the bathrooms and driveway. Thanks Fletcher!!!!

Juan Cadeza and his technician came out 9/15/18 to repair a leak. Another company had not done anything but smear tar while saying they did considerable more work and charged a lot of money, and the roof was still leaking in the same spot. Cadeza Roofing did an outstanding job. They removed all the tar the other service applied. Then they replaced boards, replaced pipes and installed a new vent, and installed new shingles. The difference is so obvious! So, I highly recommend the company for the quality of work, value, and honesty. Very solid company.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
