Thomas Toscano did a great job installing a new wrought iron gate a cross my drive way. But I gave him a second job of installing a handrail on my back steps, could not get ahold of him, he finally called said he did not want to do job.

Oscar reassembled, replaced sections, and secured with concrete, and brought back from total destruction an old torn down rotten gazebo my late grandpa had built 15-yrs ago. The end product is amazing. Thank you Oscar! We've since hired Oscar to sand and paint our iron fence. We highly recommend Oscar.

We hired DJ to paint our iron gate at our home. He arrived on time (even a few minutes early) and did an absolutely flawless job. There were several rusted spots in our ~50 foot gate and he was meticulous in his work and made our gate look brand new. We would hire him again in a heartbeat and will be recommending him to our friends and family.

The whole team were great to work with, from the owner on down. I love our new front door, our neighbors are all asking who did it. This is the second door we have had from this company and they delivered - again. We also used them for a wrought iron gate and a stamped concrete patio and they were fast and efficient. Our patio looks fantastic, very pleased with their work all round.

After seeing the actual size of my yard, understanding what I wanted accomplished Marten gave me a firm price for the work. I increased the scope to include laying 2 pallets of sod. The crew were on time each day, cleaning up after themselves after working. Work include Roto tilling the backyard, leveling and sloping it into the front for better drainage. As work started I decided to have them remove 11' of privacy fence replacing it with 2 sections of wrought iron instead. The convenience of AGSO being able to handle the two different jobs, finishing the entire project in 3.5 days (we had heavy rain day 2) was an asset. Based on conversations with Marten I plan to have him provide quotes for additional work around the house for replacing rotten wood, painting, etc. Please give AGSO the chance to quote your project.

I hired these guys to move an existing fence out to my property line. Everything went exactly as it should. Came out to quote the project after giving me a rough idea of cost through the thumbtack messaging system. We agreed to a price, they showed up when they said they would, and fully completed the project. They refilled holes, repainted some parts that needed touch up (wrought iron fence), and made sure to add the same caps to the new posts that were required. Most importantly, the bill at the end was identical to the quoted price (which is a common issue and a very frustrating one). I would hire these guys again for sure and would recommend them to whoever needs fence work done.

A&S Solutions and Abraham Gonzalez, the owner, has turned our swimming pool into a beautiful, clear, clean oasis. We were having all types of issues and he was able to determine the problems, correct them and maintain the pools clarity and will continue for many years to come. Not only has A&S Solutions helped with our swimming pool, Abraham has worked and fixed our aging wrought iron gate and our damaged brick mail box with outstanding results. Thank you, Abraham/A&S Solutions!

Detail Construction tore down and rebuilt a cedar picket fence, attached a new wooden gate, and repaired and painted a wrought iron fence. They were timely, professional, and neat. The quality of work was excellent. They exceeded our expectations and went the extra mile by resealing two items on our house that needed it.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How long is welding training?

Because there are different paths to learning to weld, there’s no single timeline for welding training. Some people attend school part-time while working their current job, while others can focus full-time on their welding training courses. People interested in learning how to weld as a hobby can also take classes from professional welders, such as at KCMA & Services in Waterloo, Indiana.

Expect to take at least two years to go from welding newbie to American Welding Society Certified Welder. A junior college Certificate of Completion welding course is two semesters full-time, or 10 units of coursework. With this certificate, students are qualified for an apprenticeship or internship, rather than a full-time entry-level job. Welding apprenticeships range from 6,000 to 8,000 hours long, equalling three to four years at 2,000 hours per year. Some junior colleges, such as Cerritos College in the Los Angeles area, offer more in-depth welding programs that lead to different welding certifications, such as arc welding and tungsten gas arc welding. These take three to four semesters to complete, so you could be qualified for an entry-level job in about two years of full-time study. Alternatively, you can prepare for employment more quickly through an intensive vocational program at a trade school. For instance, Ohio’s Lincoln Electric Company offers a comprehensive program that prepares people for a welding career in just 20 weeks and 600 hours of hands-on instruction.

How much is welding training?

The cost of welding training depends on where you take your classes and how quickly you want to complete the program. In general, junior college welding classes are the least expensive, but may take longer; trade schools offer intensive classes that lead to certification more quickly, but are more expensive. For example, Cerritos College, a junior college in Los Angeles that offers a welding training course, charges an average of $46 per unit; most of their welding certificate programs require 19 units of coursework, so cost about $875 each to complete. Pro-Weld, an on-site welding school in Idaho, offers three different welding courses. The 36-week welder fabrication and the 24-week gas tungsten arc welding courses each cost an average of $3,300, while pipe welding costs an average of $2,500 for a 24-week session or an average of $4,500 for a 52-week session. The 20-week comprehensive program at the Lincoln Electric Company in Ohio costs an average of $9,500. Many programs require students to purchase approximately $120-$200 worth of personal welding equipment in addition to textbooks or other class material fees.
