Lewis was prompt and professional. After explaining the plan, quoting a price, he and his crew got to work and finished the job in short order. They cleaned up afterwards and the results are fantastic. I would not hesitate or to recommend him to anyone needing tree trimming and any other services he may offer.

Daniel showed up at the scheduled time (actually a bit early) and we discussed what I wanted for a tree trimming and the removal of an oleander. His quote was fair based on other estimates I had received. Daniel and his partner immediately went to work and within 45 minutes had everything looking the way I had asked. I would recommend Daniel for future work.

I couldn't be more pleased with the work Eberardo has done getting the mess in my yard taken care of. He reshaped my crepe myrtles and holly trees and trimmed all of the new sprouts that popped out on my trees and cleaned up leaves and old tree trimming we had not cleaned up. Also help me out on another project when I needed it.

I had three 26 year old trees and stumps removed at my home. Two were difficult because branches extended into a neighbor's yard. One of the difficult trees was like the "Leaning Tower of Pisa".... tricky to climb. It was amazing to watch the climber tie off branches with rope, slice them off, and then lower them carefully to protect the roof & gutters, fence, and swimming pool pump in my yard - and avoid any debris getting into the neighbor's yard. The crew was exceptionally skillful at their job. Santos Carrasco and his crew were a pleasure to deal with. Santos provided a very fair quote, and we shook hands. The quote was less than I expected because of the degree of difficulty. I was so impressed when I met Santos for the estimate, I did not get any other quotes. Then the quality of the work exceeded expectations. Honest. Professional. Plus they removed a couple of smaller stumps and some surface roots at no additional cost. That was like extra icing on a cake. What a wonderful way to do business! Naturally, when I need help with future tree trimming and landscaping, Sants Landscaping Service will be my first choice. I highly recommend them. I am also impressed with Thumbtack for listing them and managing the reviews.

Outstanding Professional Service! This was my first time hiring a tree trimming service. I have two very large oak and pecan trees that were in desperate need of trimming. Salgado Tree Trimming Service was prompt and wasted no time starting the trimming. These guys are fantastic at what they do! I wanted weight and thinning of my trees and they did exactly that. They also cut a couple of limbs off my pine tree and sawed the limbs into logs for my fire pit. Throughout the service the team collected and stacked the limbs next to my curb in a very organized fashion. Once they were finished they raked and blew all the debris. I cannot express how impressed I was with these guys. They did a fantastic job. Before they left they cut a limb off my neighbors tree and another neighbor asked for a tree trimming service next weekend. I will be using Salgado Tree Trimming Service again and have already recommend these guys to my family and friends! You cannot go wrong with this top notch service!

Mr. Perez has provided my lawn care for two years. He does a good job and does special tasks when asked (spread grass seeds, planted bushes, trimmed tree leaves and other lawn care tasks). His prices are reasonable and he doesn’t try to take advantage.

Jose’s work was great! I had two major leaks in my system and he basically had to excavate my yard and remove an old stump from a cut down tree that was never removed. He was professional and on time and really took the time to walk me through all his repairs and how to work my system. Thank you Jose for your hard work and making my system operable again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
