Introduction: My commissioned work has been awarded multiple Clio’s and Addy’s over the years. The New York Times, the Atlantic Online, Forbes Magazine, Al Jazeera, Huffington Post, Adult Swim, TBS, ABC, and many others have featured my journalism and art. On a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, I studied indigenous music in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. The experience transformed my perspective and reconnected me to my own indigenous (Cherokee) roots. I explore that connection through writing, as well as time-based and visual media (film, music, sound design, photography).

Wheeler Sparks is a superb copy-writer. He has the uncanny ability to turn objects, events, and experiences into clear and captivating language. His background in music, film, and journalism has given him a natural sense for the economy and power of language and a talent for writing crisp, clear and evocative copy in a timely manner. On every project I have worked with Wheeler, I have found him uncompromisingly disciplined, clear about timelines, insightful, detail oriented, and a pleasure to work with. Use him for your next project! You’ll be glad you did.

Sirs and Madams, I have worked with Wheeler Sparks over the past 8 years, often on challenging large scale projects that found us side by side for months at a time. One of the first things I noticed him is the preparation and organization he brings to his efforts. Whereas I often show up and figure out how to do the task at hand on the spot, he deliberates, studies and plans before tackling an endeavor and often has materials, checklists and a space to work in ready and on hand. I benefitted greatly from witnessing this aspect of his work ethic and implementing it into mine. He also gives great care to whatever he works on and whether the project is one close to his heart and interests or merely a clunky commercial endeavor. If his name is attached to it he treats it as if it were his own passion project. He holds himself to a high standard and in truth he is likely a perfectionist who has over time learned to be so without putting unnecessary pressure on himself or those around him. One of my favorite things about working with Wheeler is his ability to communicate challenging ideas with collaborators and work through differences in approach and vision. He and I were like-minded in so many ways but naturally would have different ideas about how projects should ultimately manifest. Of all the folks I’ve worked with through the years, he was the most approachable, open to critique and willing to learn from others despite having a strong vision of his own. This sets him apart from so many others whom I’ve known who lacked the ability to adapt to inevitable change, share the stage with others and ultimately achieve progress through mutual effort. Lastly, I would submit that Wheeler is a dilettante and his vast life experience, travels abroad and years of study/immersion in music, art and literature give him a unique voice. His pen and ability to communicate complex ideas with words are distinct among writers, as it isn’t a concoction but merely an extension of his mind, heart and being. His long love affair with words and ideas is evidenced by his home which overflows with books. From the classics to self improvement literature to dense manuals about sharpening ones craft, he is constantly consuming ideas and channeling those ideas as well as techniques into his own work. Anyone who finds themselves working with Wheeler will be have a fine partner and benefit from his output, process and the relationship in general. Kindly, Dylan Hollingsworth
